We're very sad this morning to announce that one of our own, 43dudleyvillas , has passed away. Dudley was one of Pulse's most active posters, particularly in the Country forum, where her vast knowledge of Music Row, country radio, and the industry as a whole made her insights invaluable. She was also one of Pulse's longest-tenured administrators, and we as staff are forever grateful for the amount of work she put into moderating the board, especially behind the scenes. Those in tune with the country music scene on Twitter will also know Dudley as Windmills Country, a highly-valued voice for country music insights both on Twitter and as a regular contributor to MJ's Big Blog. Dudley will be missed immensely, and you're welcome to share your respectful thoughts below.

My prayers go out to her friends and family. I never go to the Country forum threads, so I never had a chance to really know her. The name does sound familiar, though. I hope 43dudleyvillas rests in peace.

I'm devastated. I got to work this morning and when I found out I just started crying :'( Obviously I didn't know her in real life, but we were on a first-name basis with each other and I've had a lot of good PM conversations with Dudley for the last several years, basically going back to when I was a new member here.
Dudley, I am so sad you are gone. This place just won't be the same without you.

Absolutely devastating. I kept wondering why she swerved alll my PMs as of late, now I feel like an asshole for thinking anything negative at all. RIP dearest.

I didn't know her that well before becoming a mod, but in the time since I've been able to see what a kind, genuine person she was. She will be missed. RIP

So so sad to hear this. Even as someone who visits the Country forum to read and not post myself, I have memories of her from my earliest times here and was wishing her a quick recovery only a few weeks ago. Her knowledge was always so full and commanding, it's just so weird to think of this place without her.
RIP Dudley, you'll always be missed by many.

I have been struggling with this news since I woke up this morning...I'm devastated. The country music and Pulse communities have lost a tremendous light. I learned so much from her, and admired her immensely. Over the course of the years - here, on Twitter, via email - we interacted a lot and she became someone I regarded as a friend. I know she held many of us in the Pulse community in high regards. I will miss her in ways that I haven't even fully realized yet. jhomes87, I don't envy you for having to make that post. Sending a lot of virtual hugs to my fellow Country posters.

I'm devasted. I've never been this personal on Pulse before but I feel this needs to be said.
Years ago, before I joined Pulse, I enjoyed following this relatively new thing called Twitter. I discovered a handle by the name of Windmills; I didn't know who it was but I fell in love with the information and style this person gave Country music news and insight. I started thinking about becoming involved with social media and about 2-3 years later, I joined Pulse. I soon learned her name was Dev and through knowledge of other people here, learned Dev and Windmills was the same person (I had the feeling all along).
Dev welcomed me with open arms to Pulse and later, the staff. She was so kind to me on the board and through PM. When I finally signed up to Twitter, she quickly recognized that I was in fact sabre14 (my real name is Chris). She was probably the person I conversed with the most on Twitter those first few months and she was no longer an online fellow contributor, but a friend; a friend I never met face-to-face but I felt had connected with my love and passion for Country music.
Dev's legendary posts here were inspirational -- they made me want to become a better poster and be a factual, insightful person other posters and tweeters came to...because of Dev's intelligence and passion. I will never come close to her status and intelligence but I decided to major in Journalism in part, because of her. I quickly found that my passion and slightly insane knowledge of charts, radio and the industry had an outlet.
She helped run this board because she loved it. She was personable to so many of us. I woke up this morning with a DM from another Twitter/Pulse member with the news and my heart sank to my stomach. I still don't want to believe it. I'm hoping a miracle happens and she shows up on social media. I saw a retweet from someone of a tweet Dev made months ago and for a second, I thought it wasn't true. I cried this morning. I had to skip out on my morning class because I was too upset. I avoided Pulse and Twitter the past couple hours to compose myself. A part of me doesn't want to continue on here. It doesn't feel right to post at all today. I just don't have the heart or will to do it.
May Dev rest in peace. I'm so shaken up a person that young could be gone like that. Her legacy will remain with us forever.

Wow! This is such a sad shock!
I've always respected dudley's passion and dedication to her role as an admin here and especially her knowledge of the music she talked about, even beyond country. She had such amazing ability to be so rational and open to discuss anything and everything with such patience. This is a huge loss. My thoughts go out to her friends and family.

Everyone's expressed so wonderfully what my thoughts are – I saw a tweet right before I left for work this morning suggesting Windmills Country had passed, and I'd never even put together that she and Dudley were the same person before working to confirm it throughout the morning. It's almost unbelievable that one person could be so thoroughly intelligent and knowledgeable on the country music scene, on the role of gender within it, on researching data and making statistical analyses, on writing both in a professional capacity and here on the forum in a way that was always patient and never condescending, even when rightfully and tactfully firm. And while the country forum knows her well for her years-long work as a moderator of the forum, so much of the work she did here as an administrator was thankless and behind the scenes, helping to resolve staff decisions and communicate with members with a tone and manner that I always considered an ideal to follow as a staff member myself. (I personally remember the time she congratulated me on a piece I wrote for Billboard and being so glad that she enjoyed it for that reason.) She'll be so, so missed.

I saw the news on twitter last night and just couldn't believe it. I hoped when I woke up this morning it'd turn out to be a mistake. I just can't believe it. I can't even begin to put everything into words. But I will miss her so much. She always provided great insight and conversations. She was always willing to answer any questions I had about anything from an artist to charts to single choices, etc. She never made me feel like an idiot when I didn't understand and had to ask the questions I did, most times for clarification. Just..I don't know, it's still hard for me to believe.

I started crying reading this thread.... :(
Until I saw this confirmation thread, part of me was still hoping it was a giant mistake and Dudley will suddenly pop up to post and thank us all for our concern and kind words....

:'( Wow. Dudley has always been a force for as long as I have been on this board and even prior, I believe. I didn't know her at all really, outside of her being an admin that always held shit together here but, to lose someone who has impacted so many lives at such a young age is such a tragedy. May she is rest eternally in peace. I'll hold her family and friends up in prayer. Such a sad day in the Pulse community.

I genuinely don't have words right now. :(

Never made the connection between Windmills and Dudley. Very Sad. RIP I feel so out of it now. I remember windmills from back when TWoP forums were a relevant thing. We talked some there but not quite as much because I wasn't a huge Carrie fan then, and that's the thread where she posted most I think. I always lurked and looked forward to her posts because she had so much insight and was usually pretty geeked when I did get to interact with her because I felt like I always walked away having learned something about an artist or genre I didn't know well. It's weird to think I ended up being a staff member with her years later on a completely different board - and admittedly not always seeing eye to eye with her - but that same level of 'well, I can't say this one doesn't know her shit' always came through regardless. I mourn for all the country fans today. You guys truly lost one of the best.

I remember reading some of Dudley's epic essays. She was remarkably intelligent and well-spoken. Just awful. I read that she died from a massive coronary. I still can't believe this.
