As a personal rule when looking at the chart runs of songs this time of year I take off about 3 weeks from their time spent on the chart. This is due to the end of year slowdown where nothing really moves all that much. So while he's ben on BB for 10 weeks I personally consider it a 7 week run when making predictions and estimations.

I think I'll start taking note of that in my posts on the charts. Until at least all the songs pre holiday slowdown get out, which will take a while, a long while.

The first two singles also had hourly deals to help catapult them. There was about a 6 week lull between DFG and this, and then the holiday slowdown. With his tour kicking off this weekend, the sold out (and freaking amazing) Bridgestone Arena show last night (yes I'm biased and nope I don't care a bit), and strong sales this will be just fine.

Dierks has never had a single shoot up the charts the way most A-listers do. His chart run has always been slow and steady.

Dierks has never had a single shoot up the charts the way most A-listers do. His chart run has always been slow and steady. Well, that's somewhat true. But Somewhere on a Beach went up in 16 weeks, and Different for Girls matched Sideways and 5150 at 18 weeks. He averages 22-24 weeks to hit #1 usually, which is fairly middle of the road. It's obviously not Blake or Luke fast but it's usually not painfully slow, either. His singles have a knack for simmering for a few weeks then taking off and rising pretty steadily. Black is in the simmer phase.

"Black" enters the Mediabase Top 10 at #10 this week gaining 418 spins this week. On Billboard I have this song at either #9 or #10 depending on if Dierks Bentley gets ahead of Brantley Gilbert.
I do believe this song can hit #1 on Mediabase but for Billboard I am not 100% sure as "Hurricane" by Luke Combs is hot on Dierks Bentley trail in terms of audience and is actually ahead of Dierks Bentley in spins. Another potential threat is Brett Young with "In Case You Didn't Know".
This song has grown on me slightly. I still find it boring, but overall it's not that bad (even if the Black era as a whole has left me unimpressed and leads me no desire to listen to the album).
Any idea what will be the next single as I imagine there'll be one more single since the album isn't a year old yet?

I feel like if they release another single, it'll end up being 2 years between albums (figure impact date in June & then Black took 5+ months, so a new lead single would be end of this year, Somewhere on a beach was a Jan release) or if they release a new single more like 18 months. Depends on what they want.

Same with Billy Currington and Summer Forever. So there'll probably be one more single. I haven't heard the album since it's been released, but I imagine there's a lot of radio friendly material.

I think it's all but guaranteed that "What The Hell Did I Say" is next, since Dierks has alluded to it during his concerts. The only other true options I see are "Pick Up" or "Freedom", but I hope they end up going with WTHDIS.

I'm ready for What the hell did I say to be released. This is likely next, and last. He is not yet working on new music.

^^^^^^The word 'hell' being in the title should have no effect on its prospects for becoming a smash if it does become a single, as evidenced by the fact that 'If You're Going Through Hell' spent a month at both BB & R&R/Mediabase in 2006 and wound up #1 and #2 for the year at the two trades respectively.

Yeah that was 2006

Dierks actually does have reservations about it being released for that reason but the response to the song has been pretty big. It's possible they go with something else but it's been hinted at for so long now I feel like its the most obvious pick at this point. I'm all for Pick Up though, too.

I'll Be The Moon should be released at some point. It has a chance of winning Dierks his first Grammy more than anything on the album.
Still bummed he lost a country category to Pentatonix.

Songwriters were told What da Hell would be the last single back when the Album was released....now that could change but radio would have to say they aren't playing the song for it to change. Also I don't agree that I'll be the Moon should be released. One collab is enough.

One of my fave songs on the album and he and Maren sound fantastic, but I can't see them releasing it. He needs an uptempo and another shot of momentum going into the summer and when he'll likely start working on another album.

I hope "What The Hell Did I Say" becomes the next single I liked this one since the first time I heard it.

On the topic of hell (everyone's favorite subject):
T. Graham Brown's first #1 was in 1986 called Hell And High Water. Furthermore, Earl Thomas Conley says 'go to hell' a few times in What I'd Say. That went to #1 in 1989.

I am starting to see a scenario where this one doesn't reach #1.

I am starting to see a scenario where this one doesn't reach #1. I thought that last week, and it could still happen, but since they let Brett go ahead of him, and with Brantley going for Max spins this week, there is a pretty sizeable gap backwards that would allow Capitol to snag a week, though it may be Mediabase only with how big In Case You Didn't Know is. But legit I'm ready to move on.

The gap is big enough behind Dierks, that I wouldn't be surprised if Brett went two weeks, and then Dierks goes to #1. Warner will push hard for D&S, but after Dierks it's probably all the way back to FGL for the next #1. It'll be more an issue of how long Dierks is in a very high rotation then anything.

I like this song and I thought it was a great choice at the time it was released, but I'm kind of over this one now. It hasn't held up as well as most of his other singles do for me. At this point, I'm just ready to get a new single on the radio from Dierks.

Yes ready for this one to be done. He isn't performing WTHDIS so I'm guessing we'll be getting Freedom or Pick Up next? Anybody know? I think Freedom was scheduled to be released then they went with Different for Girls instead.

I don't think it's gonna be Freedom based on some stuff I've heard.

I'm totally here for "Roses and a Time Machine", but "What the Hell Did I Say" would be my second choice and a lot more likelier.

I have a feeling that UMG Nashville will push for #1 this upcoming week as Dierks Bentley just co-hosted CCUSA (I know I put way too much stock in this) and the Power Up adds as well.
The only obstacle is Brett Young as radio just seems so much more in love with "In Case You Didn't Know" and probably want that at the top of the chart for a couple of weeks. I can definitely see this being a MB only #1.
