I wanted to do this year, because honestly, I think I did not do so good with 2006. Other than skipping a lot of songs, I felt like I had nothing to offer, and I wasn't at all elaborating. I'll go back to it soon, but now, I want to start over with a more recent year.
Now, I'm doing 2007, and I'm gonna try my best to not skip any songs. Plus, no long hiatuses, there will be 1-4 song reviews a week. Here we go..
100 coming later today..
UPDATE: This was originally 2009, but I decided to just get over with 2007. But I will get to it eventually

100. R. Kelly Feat. Usher - Same Girl (Peak: 20)Here we go, our first song. From two good R&B singers. The song is told in dialogue, as it tells about both Kelly & Raymond discovering that their girlfriends are..what else? The same girl. Basically, this is the male version of The Boy Is Mine..although the video shows that the song has a twist. I feel like The Boy Is Mine does this concept better. Not to mention, I think both artists could've done something different..but I'm still satisfied with the song. Despite me wanting a different song, both Usher & R. Kelly work well off each other with the material they are given, and it especially shows with the whole song being one scenario. Yeah, that's really what I have to say. Even if I feel like the two can do better, it's still a good collaboration with good chemistry. C+

99. Snoop Dogg Feat. R. Kelly - That's That (Peak: 20)Well what do you know? Two R. Kelly songs in a row...except this one really downgrades in quality. Look, I do like Snoop Dogg, and I do like him in this one. Despite the lyrics being nothing special, he still continues with his laid back style in Rap, and it especially goes well with the Coming To America instrumental. R. Kelly, on the other hand, seems completely boring in this one. For an artist who has done many good songs about SEX, and unlike Same Girl where the chemistry is great between him and Usher, he really offers nothing in this one. It doesn't help that his verse is just him repeating "holler at a player". Overall, yeah, not a BAD song, but I've seen better singles off Snoop's album. Forget I Wanna Love You, how come Vato wasn't a big hit? C-

98. Finger Eleven - Paralyzer (Peak: 6)Now we get to Alternative Rock, which the 2000's was a great time for. I did like One Thing from this band, but this one. Yeah, same as before, nothing stands out. The story is simple: some guy is in a club, trying to pick up chicks, except he doesn't know how to. Pretty weak for a song, but while the concept is that, it doesn't mean the song is bad. In the end, it's just harmless rock I can move to. I mean, I like the guitar riff, and the singer ain't too bad. But again, I prefer One Thing. Yeah, that's really all I have to say. Sorry if this sounded a bit sloppy, but really, I have nothing I gotta dive into in this song. It's just harmless. CHOWEVER, next song, we really look into crap..

97. Hinder - Better Than Me (Peak: 31)..or at least that's what I thought it was gonna be. Yeah, for those who don't know, I never liked the band's OTHER SINGLE, which is on the list too. So I was not looking forward to this one. However, the song turned out to be a major IMPROVEMENT over it's prodecessor. Now, the song does suffer some problems. The premise is just about the aftermath of a break-up, and BOY does it sound cliche. Occasionally, there are dumb lyrics, like the whole line about a memory of a dressing room..which goes nowhere, or the singer's, despite showing SOME improvement, dumb delivery of some corny lines, like "I REALLY MISS YOUR HAIR IN MY FACE". However, again, I take this over YOU KNOW WHAT, because at least this one doesn't have..alright, I'll talk crap about it when we get to it, but to put it short, this just sounds better. In the end, the song is pretty cliche...but this could've been worse. But the song I thought this was gonna be..we'll see it in 2008.. C

96. Justin Timberlake - Lovestoned (Peak: 17)Now we're getting into some Timberlake. Yes, I am a JT fan. The guy just knows how to make great songs that makes you dance your ass off. Not to mention, he can make songs that sound terrible on paper sound great because of his delivery. Along with the other big single off the FutureSex album, this is one of them. I'll admit, while this song is as memorable as his other singles on the album, it's still great. The song's concept is simple. A guy falls for a drunk chick at a club. However, again, delivery is what matters. The beat is great, and Timberlake has a lot of charisma with that beat. Did I mention to how kick-ass he is at beatboxing instrumentals, along with how good Timberland is as a producer? Yeah, the first song on this YE I actually like. It's purpose is to make you dance, and it succeeds at that. But again, we still have three other singles that top this. B+

95. Crime Mob & Lil Scrappy - Rock Yo Hips (Peak: 30)Oh geez, another rap song. Yeah, glancing over the rap songs in 2006 was a mistake, and I promised I wouldn't do the same here. But getting into the song, just more lyrics about booties, although the closet to being creative is the "Bubblelicious" metaphor. The beat gets really grating fast, especially those 4 flute notes throughout the entire song. In the end, there's really nothing to talk about . It's just some bland as hell trendy rap song from this "era" of rap where White Tee's and chains dominated everything. I'll just leave it as that. D-

94. Nickelback - Far Away (Peak: 8)Here we go, our first crossover hit. Wait, this song was actually still on the charts in 07? Yeah, let's get into the most controversial band this past decade: Nickelback. I honestly don't hate them, but they STILL got problems. This song pretty much sums up the band: they sound nice, but they're pretty bad at songwriting. The song really does sound a bit uplifting, even with Kroeger's vocals. But that's really all I can say about the positives. The lyrics on the other hand...oh boy. The entire song just sounds like Kroeger is whining about love, because every single "touching" line leads NOWHERE. It's also hard to tell what the song is even about. Is it about a girlfriend dying? Is it a long-distance relationship? Is it a break-up? WHAT IS IT? Overall, just a standard Nickelback song. I can understand why the song topped the charts. Considering how simple a lot of AC music is, this fits in with it. C-

93. Chris Brown Feat. T-Pain - Kiss Kiss (Peak: 1)Going back to Brown again. Yay. I will admit this about the song: it's upbeat as hell, and to be honest, it feels like something worth dancing too, which surprisingly comes from T-Pain's production of the song. However, the lyrics are just bad here. The entire song is just Chris bragging about how "fly" he is, and his Lamborghini, or how his bandanna makes him a "bandit". Yeah, sounds pretty stupid. BTW, why does Chris feel the need to remind us his age? It's even worse here than it was in Run It! Overall, if you ignore the stupid lyrics, it's still an upbeat song, which is why I guess it became a hit. But hey, at Chris would later release two better singles..before he turned to crap. C-

92. Ludacris Feat. Pharrell - Money Maker (Peak: 1)Another crossover hit from 2006. This time, it's Luda and a master of hip-hip production, and Pharrell. In a mixed song. Yes, this is another booty and sex song from the mid-2000's. While I do like Ludacris' style in the song, some of the sexual lyrics can range from somewhat creative to just bad. Also, I feel like the production of The Neptunes is really lacking here. It's just somber notes with a couple of sound effects, and that's pretty much it. It just feels disappointing that one of the greatest beat producers of the 2000's can make something as small as this. Overall, yeah, another pass. Not terrible, there is just better. C-

91. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Snow (Hey Oh) (Peak: 22)Now we get to another great band, Red Hot Chili Peppers. First off, this song has such a fitting title. The entire song is just about living life while trying to avoid the problems..or cocaine. Yeah, this song REALLY has different meanings for everyone. But back to what I was saying, snow really is the environment that really comes to mind when I hear this song. Even with the meaning of cocaine, it's still a nice sounding song from the band, as they've always done slow-sounding hits like this, and succeeded at it. There are repetitive lyrics, but that's what RHCP is great at when making songs. To be honest, this is kind of a nitpick, but the song drags a little bit at the end. But if you're in the right mood to hear this song, you won't really care. Yes, another good hit by RHCP, with such great melody, and especially the soft vocals. B+

90. Rihanna - Shut Up & Drive (Peak: 15)I will admit, Rihanna was best from this year to 2008. This is one of her more underrated tracks. Basically, the song is about sex. No really, from beginning to end, it's about SEX. However, the song doesn't go all about it, disguising the whole concept with car metaphors. Just like another song on this list, the metaphors work well in the song. Can I also say how great the background guitar is in the background? I mean, despite the song having a completely different meaning, it really does feel like something to drive to..we'll, sort of. Rihanna's vocals are nice, but I will admit, the bridge really lacks, from both the beat and her voice. But it's really not that huge of a problem. Yeah, nothing else to say. It's just an fun, upbeat song from Rihanna's glory days. B

89. Taylor Swift - Teardrops On My Guitar (Peak: 13)Now we're getting into PULSE's favorite genre of music: Country! Along with a very popular artist: Taylor Swift! From the very guy that made her popular! Oh boy, this is gonna be good. Well, after another listen, I can say that I do think this IS a good song. But I'm only judging the song itself, ignoring what Swift does after it. For starters, the concept of crying over someone because he doesn't notice you has been done before, and to be honest, it can be very mopey most of the time. However, Swift does take the whole thing seriously, and delivers some nice vocals with it. Yes. Eeeveen. Wheen shee. Drags her voice in the whole song. Plus, she was still 16 when she made this. To be honest, for a subject like this, as a teenager, it CAN Be relatable. Having a crush that's in love with someone else can suck. Swift even sounds mature in this, as she doesn't call the guy bad for noticing her. Unlike other artists who compare Break-ups to stupid Twilight creatures (COUGHCHRISTINAPERRICOUGH). Did I mention how the song is based on a true story? Unlike other country artists where they just sing about hope about finding the right guy, and just have flat in your face lyrics, Swift does something this. However, while she has defended this, did she really have to use her crush's real name? I mean, isn't that like, a bad thing to call out names? Also, while it's not some sentimental Country song, the lyrics can still come off as a little mopey in some parts. But again, this is from a teenager, and again, feels a little mature than other songs. But whatever, still a good song, and seemed like something original for the Country genre...at least before Swift kept making the SAME FREAKIN' SONG ABOUT THE EXACT SAME CRAP, TO A POINT WHERE IT WAS MORE ANNOYING THAN ORIGINAL. At least she has style now. B-

BTW, I think Swift's other hits, like Tim McGraw & Our Song were MEH.. 88. Bow Wow Feat. T-Pain - Outta My System (Peak: 22)Now, let's go back to T-Pain, with another collaberation. The young rapper himself, Bow Wow. In a rap song about..a break-up....and I like it. I don't think the song is POWERFUL, as to be honest, this concept has always been corny to me in any of this genre. However, what I do like about the song is the production. I like the instrumental, and again, while Bow Wow isn't doing anything original, he still does good with delivering the lyrics. Even T-Pain is fits in the chorus. Edit: Whoops, forgot this was about Ciara. I will admit, it kind does make this song a little more interesting. Yes, just a harmless rap ballad. May not be original, but it's still a fun listen. B-

87. 50 Cent Feat. Justin Timberlake - Ayo Technology (Peak: 5)Now we're getting into 50 Cent, singing about..having sex with a stripper. No. With Timberlake and Timbaland. Yes. Yeah, this is another song where production MAKES the song, and considering how Timbaland did this with Timberlake & another artist coming soon on the list, it really shows in this one. I love the Splinter Cell-spy-esque instrumental, and Timbalake does share great chemistry with Cent in this one. However, the lyrics are a bit of a set back. Of course, it's a sex song, but some of Cent's verses just feel pretty weak. However, I will admit, I like the whole thing of sex moves being called "technology". Yeah, I like this one. Even if Cent ain't the best rapper, he still does good with both of the two legendary collaborators. C+

The version of Ayo Technology I've been hearing for years was an acoustic guitar interpretation by some European singer named Milow that for some reason was a big hit in my country. I was shocked when I discovered this is actually a 50 Cent/Timberlake/Timbaland track. The cover was so different, and because of that the original still feels so weird to me.

86. Lifehouse - First Time (Peak: 26)Now, we're getting back to AC bands. To be honest, I never really thought Lifehouse was worth critiquing or diving into. To me, besides having a couple of songs I actually LIKE by them, they are just a harmless AC rock band. But, since I tackled Y&M in the 2006 YE, it's time for this one. The song is about the feelings of love in a relationship for, of course, the first time. While the song isn't anything that gets me pumped, it is nice sounding, and again, as harmless as the entire band. But I will admit, sometimes, it feels like the lyrics are trying a little hard to be "deep". But it's not too much of an issue, at least Not in the context of Christina Perri. Again, I have nothing here. Harmless is the only thing I can say. C

Ok, the "technology" metaphor really feels out of place in the accoustic cover.

85. Rihanna Feat. Sean Paul - Break It Off (Peak: 9)Here is another artist I don't like diving into: Sean Paul. I always took his songs as just fun dance songs, because HOW can I take the lyrics seriously, when it's a style of reggae. However, this song one feels a little boring to me. Rihanna, despite getting the top billing, and the song being on HER album, is barely given anything in this song. I mean, Sean Paul has had good chemistry in his collaborations, with artists like Keyshia Cole, Sia, and heck, even Beyoncé (although Baby Boy is just OK). Here, it just feels like Rihanna is playing second banana here. Even her verse is pretty weak. This also doesn't really have the same energy as Paul's other songs, nor does it get me pumped. Yes, Ri has top billing, but Paul has more verses to a point where it feels like his song. Overall, yeah pretty weak here. C-

84. Baby Bash Feat. T-Pain - Cyclone (Peak: 7)We're moving to weak songs that don't get you moving by a GP, to more upbeat songs by a GP. Yeah, I do like Bash's other hits..which only consists of Suga Suga & Baby I'm Back. To me, Bash is more of a layback rapper, and in this one..it consists of Ass metaphors, some I even like (she the Google, download the ITunes). However, can I say how I don't like the other parts? The singer in the chorus sounds so robotic, and T-Pain with that "err err" part. Yeah, can Bash go back to Frankie J again? Overall, yeah, despite it's flaws, it's a fun upbeat hit. C

So far, if I had to have a top 3 and bottom 3 of this so far, it would be this.
Top 3: 1. Lovestoned 2. Snow (Hey Oh) 3. Outta My System
Bottom 3: 1. Break It Off 2. Rock Yo Hips 3. Better Than Me
Yet, I still haven't encountered songs I have hated yet.

83. Gwen Stefani - Wind It Up (Peak: 6)Yay, we're going back to artists I like. I've been really growing to like, even love, Gwen Stefani, from both her No Doubt days and solo career. I just love the personality she puts in her music. However, I will admit, her 2006 album does feel like she started to become a bit mainstream. Although the singles are perhaps the best songs on the album. But now, we are getting into one of her most hated songs, besides Hollaback Girl and even Spark The Fire, and what do I think of it? It's...mixed. Yeah, I kind of like it, and yet I don't like it. First let's get to the negatives first. The song is just so disorganized. It goes from the Sound Of Music sample to a different beat many times in the song, and did I mention how exhausting the main beat that sounds like a damn lightsaber having a seizure is? Also, while Gwen's voice isn't COMPLETELY annoying, it's really hard to get into in certain parts. As for the positives, it FEELS like Gwen's L.A.M.B personality, even more than Hollaback Girl. Her entire point of the song is to be over-the-top, and to be honest, I kind of like the idea of what the song was going for, and I like the use of the Sound Of Music sample. While I don't like the beat, to be honest, I guess I can imagine myself dancing to this..but that's really all I can imagine, since it's not a song I'd hear while regularly listening to music. However, what really gets me is that this is the song that music critics (or ones from magazines) hate. Yeah, we live in a world where a POS like Want U Back can get acclaim, yet a song that's meant to be an OTT dance jam gets all the negative reviews. Heck, even Hollaback Girl, one of the most mixed songs of the 2000's, got more positive reviews than this did. Overall, this song is UNDENIABLY flawed, and there were 3 other singles on the album that KICKED this song's ass..one that we will get to, but, I can still appreciate it for what it is, and what Stefani was going for. In this case, it's the idea that counts...but not the execution. C

Finally, my first review of the year. 82. Pretty Ricky - On The Hotline (Peak: 12)Now, we're getting back to Hip-Hop again. Oh yes, I do remember Pretty Ricky. A group I remember listening to, not paying attention to all the sexual lyrics. I see this group as just songs to listen to when played in a car. Because when I actually pay attention to them..oh boy. Take this song for example. Now, like I said, it's fun when you ignore the lyrics. Heck, I kinda end up singing the chorus whenever I hear this. However, the song is about a sex hotline. It does not get as cheesy or dirty as this. Considering that every lyric is about being horny, and whatever metaphor or action is used. But hey, they could be singing about being RAPED. No really, listen to Your Body again. In the end, it's just a fun hip-hop song about sex to jam to in the car. But it's not anything to take so seriously. C

81. Hellogoodbye - Here (In Your Arms) (Peak: 14)Yeah..I never was in the hype for this song, if there ever was one. From what it looks like, it's a band that appeals to teenagers, or college students that are into pop or something, like The Ready Set or even All Time Low. To be honest, I can understand the appeal to this song. I guess it falls under GP pop, like Blue (Da Ba Dee) & Everytime We Touch. Plus, it's pretty catchy. Unfortunately, just like the other two, this one is undeniably flawed. The lyrics are the weakest point in this song. The verses just feel so simple, and I mean, REALLY simple. Heck, it even rivals Nickelback..or maybe not, but still. Overall, yeah, I guess it's OK, but still, I can understand why this was a hit. CBTW, anybody remember Code Lyoko? This sounds like the theme!

80. Young Jeezy Feat. R. Kelly - Go Getta (Peak: 18)Now HERE'S a rap song I actually like. Yes, after Kiss Kiss and On The Hotline, this is the one rap song I can admit to enjoying. Yes, the song is about a rich man's life in the club. But the beat is great in this one, along with Jeezy's delivery with it. Heck, even R. Kelly is great in this one. Unlike That's That where he is given nothing, R. Kelly works great with the beat, and is given a good verse. Overall, this is a VERY fun rap song. Just like Ayo Technology, the production makes the song. Yes, FINALLY, a rap song that's not a C. B-

79. Paula DeAnda Feat. The D.E.Y - Walk Away (Peak: 18)Gravey, one of your songs is finally on here. So here, we have a hip-hop break up song..sort of. The song is about a girl who misses her old boyfriend. No, not like Want U Back or some crap. I'll admit, some of the lyrics are pretty corny, like the whole "does she do this?" thing, like back scratching and playing PS2 until 6 in the morning..wait, she LIKES THAT? Well, that's actually refreshing to hear. But despite it's corniness, it's cute. That's really it. It's just cute. The song's tone does well with it's premise, especially with DeAnda's vocals. I mean, it's not AMAZING by any means, but I do get the appeal of it. Yeah, I might not be as much of a fan as it as you, Gravey. But I still think it's decent. CBTW, I'm reviewing the solo version, because the other rappers SUCK in the other version.

Yeah, so far. Most of the songs rank from good..to ones I really don't care that much about. 78. UNK - 2 Step (Peak: 24)And we're back to more hip-hop songs. This time, it's another trendy dance song. Yeah, 10 years, and it feels like it was still beginning. Basically, this is Walk It Out 2.0. That's really all I got for this one. The lyrics are just your typical dance with sex and drugs words, and the main rapper is really bland sounding. It's just another dance rap song. That's really all I can say for this one. D+Seriously, I am really starting to care less and less about the rap songs on this list.
