I hope to see some Demi Lovato soon? Unfortunately not this year, however "Cool for the Summer" did rank #9 on my year-end list in 2015!

20. J. Cole - "No Role Modelz"This song has been out for a while but it didn't really grow on me until earlier this year. It's turned into one of my favorite J. Cole tracks and probably my favorite rap song of the year.

19. Brad Paisley - "Without a Fight" (feat. Demi Lovato)
Although I do think the lyrics are a little strange considering the age difference between Brad & Demi, I still can't get enough of this. I was shocked when it stalled at country radio.

I actually just discovered Maren Morris a few weeks ago; from another fellow pulse poster. I'm loving the single "80's Mercedes". I will be giving it some chart action come early 2017.

18. The Weeknd - "In the Night"Another bop from Abel. Actually one of my favorite songs from him.

17. Ariana Grande - "Dangerous Woman"I've always liked Ariana's music, but this current album era has taken things to a whole new level. I've loved every single and even loved "Greedy" enough to include it in this countdown. The title track, featured here at #18, packs a serious punch and stellar vocals.

16. Lauren Alaina - "Road Less Traveled"I fell in love with Lauren during her season of American Idol and I'm so glad that she finally scored a major hit, even if it took 5 years to get there. When this was announced as the next OTV song, I nearly jumped for joy.

15. Rascal Flatts - "I Like the Sound of That"This song has been around since 2014 but it wasn't until late April of this year that it hit the top at country radio. I love the signature Rascal Flatts harmonies that help this song go down like pure butter.

14. Calvin Harris - "This Is What You Came For" (feat. Rihanna)After not really enjoying "Work", I was ready for the return of pop Rihanna. "This Is What You Came For" delivered that request in a big way, even though it took some time to grow on me.

13. Little Big Town - "Better Man"Just when I thought LBT couldn't get any better, they went ahead and released one of the best singles of their career. I don't think they'll ever top "Your Side of the Bed", but this is about as close as they can get.

12. Troye Sivan - "Youth"I've known about Troye for a couple years now but "Youth" was actually the first song I'd heard from him. What a debut it was, as it turned into a clear standout of 2016. I'm glad it slid into the Top 20 at pop radio but I still think it deserved better.

11. Clare Dunn - "Tuxedo"Barely missing the Top 10 is Clare Dunn with her bombastic single "Tuxedo". Most country fans on Pulse don't like this song, but it was a love on first listen for me. I'm not surprised that it saw virtually no success at country radio.

10. Mike Posner - "I Took a Pill in Ibiza (Seeb Remix)"I love the remix of this song as a fan of pop radio, but the lyrics are what stand out. I have a soft spot for Mike since he broke out around the same time that I started following music. This song is so full of emotion and honesty and I love this new direction for him. "Be As You Are" charted at #60 on my year-end list in 2015.

9. The Band Perry - "Comeback Kid"I know most people hate this song, but The Band Perry is another group that I have a soft spot for. I liked "Live Forever" as a pop song but not as a TBP song, so I'm glad they stripped things down with this release. There are some pretty bold lyrics here, specifically the "How dare you forget where I started out", which leads into a reference to their smash hit "If I Die Young". I think that was a bit overboard, but overall I still can't get enough of "Comeback Kid".

8. Ariana Grande - "Into You"Probably my favorite Ariana single to date, this is nothing but pure pop perfection and the definite high-point on her latest album.

7. Billy Currington - "It Don't Hurt Like It Used To""It Don't Hurt Like It Used To" is just an awesome tune, there's no other way to say it. I still find myself singing the earworm of a chorus all the time. This song deservedly became Billy's 10th number one country hit in October.

6. Coldplay - "Hymn for the Weekend" (feat. Beyonce)When news came out about a collaboration between Coldplay and one of my favorite female singers, I immediately thought of a few years earlier when they collaborated with Rihanna to produce "Princess of China", which is still a favorite of mine. "Hymn for the Weekend" ended up pulling off a similar pattern to "Princess of China". I was underwhelmed by both at first but grew to love each of them in their own unique way.

5. Artists of Then, Now & Forever - "Forever Country"Three iconic songs mashed up and sung by country's biggest superstars. What more could I ask for?! Carrie Underwood takes it up a notch with her fantastic performance of "I Will Always Love You" and Dolly singing the final line is absolutely iconic. This mashup works in a natural way that doesn't feel forced. It's truly magical.

4. Keith Urban - "Wasted Time"I've mentioned many times on Pulse that I don't get into the debate of what's country and what isn't country. I just like good music and that's exactly what "Wasted Time" is. I was introduced to the song through Keith's performance on American Idol and it's been a staple in my playlist ever since. Probably the single best summer song of 2016.

3. Jennifer Lopez - "Ain't Your Mama"The countdown wouldn't be complete without an appearance from my wife and better half, the one and only Jennifer Lopez. "Ain't Your Mama" was released in April as an attempt to capitalize on Jen's massive exposure at the time through both Shades of Blue and the final season of American Idol. I only heard it on the radio one single time but you better believe I cranked that b*tch up and jammed to it. Despite under-performing in the U.S., this is a bop and a half for me.

2. Kelly Clarkson - "Piece by Piece (Idol Version)"I'm an American Idol nerd so this past spring was emotional as the show came to a close after a spectacular run. The clear peak of the final season occurred not from a current contestant, but from a former one who just so happens to be the original winner. Kelly gave an emotional performance of her single "Piece by Piece" and the rest is history. It was a cultural phenomenon that caused a new version of the song to be released which ultimately debuted at #8 on the Hot 100 the next week. The Idol version of the song is a chilling masterpiece, combining honest lyrics with a stellar vocal performance. It's nominated for a Grammy and quite frankly deserves to win, in my opinion.

1. Jason Aldean - "A Little More Summertime"There are two reasons why "A Little More Summertime" will be remembered as my favorite song of 2016. The first is simple. It's a f*cking great song. The second is a little more complicated. It represented a return to form for Jason, who hadn't released a great single since the Night Train era. Following bland and mediocre singles such as "Burnin' It Down", "Just Gettin' Started", and "Gonna Know We Were Here", "A Little More Summertime" proved to be fresh and a much-needed change of pace for an artist I once considered to be one of my favorite country singers. For the first time in years, his vocal performance was energetic and he didn't sound bored out of his mind. The whole atmosphere of this song just works.
