It's nice hearing her voice over some fresh production.

Avril Lavigne and Bebe Rexha? That's certainly an interesting combination.
The way both of their career have been going, too, it seems pretty uncertain to me whether this would be for Avril's continuously delayed album or for yet another mixtape/EP for Bebe.

It’s for Bebe’s. If it was for Avril’s, she would have some writing credit. Bebe is a huge Avril fan, and worked with Lauren Christy, who was part of The Matrix that co-wrote/produced the singles from Let Go. By mutually knowing Lauren, they were able to get in touch and make it happen. After the collab happened, Lauren and Avril really reconnected, and they ended up writing together for Avril’s album, first time they wrote together since the Let Go album.

WHEn music eventually comes i ll be thrilled, but her teasing does nothing for me anymore Ever since last New Years when she told us 2017 was her year returning to the music scene and it even trended on Twitter and we ended up with barley anything

Still a fan and enjoyed her last few albums so I am excited-ish! Self-titled was decent but I LOVED Goodbye Lullaby. Some of my favorite Avril songs are on there. s**t...now I am about to put on Wish You Were Here. I was so obsessed with that - both the standard and acoustic. Also, What The Hell has such great memories for me. I remember watching her performance with my best friend from college and his wife on NYE a few years back and we were all jamming and saying how good it was. Also...Stop Standing There. Of course, never forget how she did Alanis better than Alanis on Push. Where's Mack at?

I wasn't a fan of her last album but I still love her first two and a few songs from each one after that. I'm curious about what Avril Lavigne has to say in 2018 (probably the same she always says, but hey, one can hope!)

I felt like she had so much potential with Let Go and UMS-like, that she was going to develop into one of my favorite songwriters. Nothing since has worked for me though. Like, yeah, the occasional song here and there, but nowhere close to an entire cd of great music again. I always wonder if I built her up too much in my head with those brilliant first two cds or if her career just went in a different direction...like, she just hasn't found the right team and angle yet.
I am always open to new Avril music though and I will always have a soft spot because of her previous music.

Honestly, I think she is a solid balladeer. I wish she could deliver an uptempo that wasn’t grating. She is a solid artist, but she needs to take that next step that pushes her past solid.

My Ipod was in an Avril mood yesterday during a road trip and I really think that What The Hell and Here's To Never Growing Up would have hit in slightly different circumstances. Like, I know they were both mild hits anyway, but I can see why those songs were chosen as singles and just a bit more promo or momentum or slightly different year of release and I think they would have both gotten over the hump they hit that kept them from being bigger hits. I believe both peaked just outside the top 10 on pop, right?
Anyway, it was nice to hear some songs from her that I had forgotten even exist lol.

I've been jamming out to some early Avril and her I never realized when I was a kid how laughable her lyrics are. I don't mean they are terrible or that I would expect better from a teenager, but it's so basic teenager to sound deep. I'm so glad that Lorde was a big teen star and Khalid has become one, such a huge step up in lyricism.
With that said, I love her early stuff and the melodies/her voice definitely made up for her writing. My Happy Ending is still such a smash.

Has Avril ever cited The Cranberries as an influence? Been listening to them a lot lately and can hear bits of Avril in Dolores O'Riordan's voice. Would be cool if she did some songs in that vein.

I think I'm with you is her best song. Ask me tomorrow but right now I agree with you. Depends on the mood though, because I also really, really love Nobody's Home and Complicated. My Happy Ending is a close fourth. Anything but Ordinary is also very underrated.

I think Girlfriend is one of those singles that was a hit at the time, but did more damage than good in the long run. Like that Billy Squier song with the terrible video. When the followup single didn't hit in the US that much, I wondered whether that was the residual effect of her clamping down so hard on the brat label, but then she just fell off everywhere aside from Asia hard after that song. The thing is that I do recall UMS getting some flack for coming across as too try hard, but I think overall it was a rather good move to use her initial hype to push to fields where there would be more room to grow later, and then she just tossed it really hard. I think taking too long to follow up TNBT was a factor too after it ended on a low note. All the other Luke girls got ahead of her in that time.

I think taking too long to follow up TNBT was a factor too after it ended on a low note. All the other Luke girls got ahead of her in that time. If the 4th album was released in 2009 instead of 2011, as initially planned, her career would have been a lot different. What bothers me about it, was she fought with RCA for years over the album and refusal to make a new one, only to cave and release songs like What The Hell and Smile anyway, when it was two years overdue and nobody cared/were expecting a lot more. And you’re right, during that time Kesha, Katy, Gaga and Rihanna all became bonfide pop superstars and she was bumped to the bottom of the label/media priority when she did release a record. I think she also developed a substaintial ego and became a thorn in RCA’s side as she grew up, and that contributed how much money they put into her comeback. After the first three records, she was a 23 year old kid with 30 million dollars, and just moved to L.A. Her people worked her hard during those first three records, and unlike a lot of today’s stars, she had global promotional campaigns to establish her on an international level- every era. Something she probably counts her lucky stars for now, but contributed to her being “over it” earlier than she should have. 3 world tours and albums by 23 didn’t give her a lot of time to enjoy a lot, and she started hanging with Paris Hilton, Brandon Davis and Brody Jenner and seeing the perks of stardom and money. As much as her fans blame RCA for the 4 year gap that killed her momentum, I don’t think she was eager for the newfound party to end/get on the road again so there was probably some self-sabotage there too. In her own words: A lot of the international tours, it’s a flight tour, which makes it way more difficult. I enjoy being on a tour bus. The only place you can tour with a bus is Europe or North America. [Flying] ends up being more grueling. It’s a different thing when you’re packing and unpacking bags, and you’re in a new hotel room every other day in a new city“

Ironic that those were the two sore thumbs on an otherwise decent album, or at least it had potential to be as good as the first two. The Best Damn Thing was the only Avril album I never bothered getting because Girlfriend was such a disappointment that I gave up on her after her first two stellar records. I assume the brat label is forced on her and the one thing that holds her back - along with her subpar songwriting. She's always been ace with melodies but her lyrics need a lot of work. I think the key to her success is a good co-writer. It's unfortunate that I can't see her achieving any level of success at this point. If Michelle Branch couldn't score a hit last year, there's no way Avril can.

^Not saying Avril will get a smash hit, but Michelle’s pop career has been over for more than a decade. Avril has gotten radio support as recent as her last album where the lead single went top 20 on pop and moved over a million units, stats Michelle wasn’t even close to
