This doesn't sound promising, at all.

In terms of production though... she will NEVER come out with something fresh/different if she doesn't stop working with Jermaine Dupri. It's always the same generically safe, unexciting early '00s sound. Always the same. And it's not entirely Jermaine Dupri to blame, of course. She's made similar songs with other producers, too. At the end of the day we all know Mariah has the most control of her music, so stop blaming other people. If we want to Mariah to (justifiably) get credit for her successes, it also means crediting her for things we don't like. Having said that, JD has been involved in some of her biggest and best songs, so in and of itself working with him isn't necessarily bad. It's about what Mariah wants to create with him.

LOVE the clip. So late 90's (probably because of the sample ).

Sounds like a track that belongs on a mixtape. Whispery vocals and heavy sample usage makes it a bit harder for me to get on board.

I don't like *anything* about it. One of her worst songs ever for me.

It sound pretty good so far. I'm not all excited like I once was. I was hoping for more of an uptempo number she may be able to use in her stage show.

It sounds pretty good but the production seems dated af. But since I'm probably one of the very very few people who love "Triumphant" my opinion shouldn't matter.

Dated, and her vocals sound shrill and dry. First thing I noticed. This is one of her worst vocals post- Charmbracelet unfortunately . She has always had an absolutely beautiful tone to her voice in addition to everything else she could once do with it, so it still sounds pretty, but it sounds like a quick demo done to be properly re-sung on a better day.

This definitely sounds like one of her worst recordings to date (up there with other one-off trash like "Triumphant" and "100%"). I mean the only salvageable part of this is a hook she lifted word for word and note for note from a modern R&B classic. This is not the kind of return to music that should follow the NYE disaster.

Technically it's an interpolation, but that wasn't my point. It's both. It's an interpolsample or a sampolation. From wikipedia: In hip hop music, interpolation refers to using a melody – or portions of a melody (often with modified lyrics) – from a previously recorded song, but re-recording the melody instead of sampling it. Often used when the original artist or label declines to license the actual sample, since re-recordings (covers) are subject to compulsory licenses.

Maybe this will end up pulling off "#Beautiful"?

#Beautiful sounded fresh from the get-go. This...is something else. That cover is awful. Stella & Co. have wrecked her so much . She's always been so photogenic that they really had to fight hard to make it look that horrible.

I don't like the cover but she looks lovely imo. I love that facial expression. Something about YG looks off though, almost like his head was photoshopped into the picture or something. Maybe it's just a weird angle.

I love that Mariah is exploring darker themes in her music, at least based on the "Cuba Gooding Jr. absconding with wife's corpse in the backseat" artwork.

It is just now occurring to me that the title is a play on "I do" (as in, she won't be saying those vows since she and Packer broke up). It took looking at that god-awful cover for the tenth time and wondering what is up with the garter was to figure that out.
I really like the melody of the verse/pre-chorus, so I am pretty sure I will like the song in full, but she is admittedly straining in the hook. And also, no way is that melody suitable for today's urban landscape. It's actually too melodious; Mimi's trademark verbosity and vocal trills haven't been a current style for a solid decade now. Not that anything she released would have had great chances but something more along the lines of Obsessed would be closer to radio friendly than this.
