Um what? Interesting they predict Lorde in AOTY; I don't see it, but perhaps due to vote splitting. Where they really lost me is in saying "Despacito" deserves Song because it's the "weightiest" nominee. Huh?

Huh?It's an oddly worded sentence, but they're actually saying 4:44 is the weightiest of the nominees.

Reported from HDD. Yikes, this show just sounds like a giant mess. COLD SNAP: Though the weather may be milder than many feared, rain is in the Manhattan forecast for this weekend, and biz folk who aren’t already there don’t want to travel to NYC for the Grammys. People are going who have to go, and several Grammy-week events, such as Fleetwood Mac at MusiCares and Jay-Z at Clive’s party, are additional enticements, as is Sir Lucian Grainge’s Saturday luncheon—which, with its limited guest list of the most powerful movers and shakers, has turned out to be the place to be on the day before the Grammys, as artists mingle with the most essential gatekeepers. But the s**tty climate and its attendant travel headaches only add to a prevailing mood of crankiness. Let’s face it: The Secret Committee has demonstrated that it’s way out of touch—and has alienated the labels and much of the rest of the business. The committee’s approval rating, already on the decline since the snubbing of Justin Timberlake several years back, has taken a nosedive with the exclusion of Ed Sheeran from the top categories. “Sheeran-gate,” as it’s come to be called, not only marks a clueless snubbing of the moment’s biggest star (2.6m sold on his most recent album) but also inflicts a stunning blow to the 1/28 telecast. Ed won’t be performing on Music’s Biggest Night. Neither will his pal Taylor Swift (2.2m). Or Timberlake (2.7m on 20/20 Complete; he’ll get a gigantic look with a Super Bowl halftime set on NBC instead). So producer Ken Ehrlich, CBS exec Jack Sussman and teams will have to soldier on without music’s biggest pop stars, who are pretty essential for Grammy’s biggest ratings. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=310197Girl chill and calm ya tits! I'm like Barbara Streisand just chilling and wondering why so bothered

No one gives a f**k about overrated albums by white dudes being snubbed. They weren’t great albums. Hence, why they aren’t nomination leaders. Is it not supposed to reward artistic achievement and critical acclaim? Or is this just the BBMA, since we talking sales? Yeah, I see literally no outrage over JT, Ed, etc being snubbed. Their material is not even that good tbh. The fact that people just 'expect' them to be nominated goes right to the problem.

Not sure if this was posted but a Billboard interview with Ed from about a month ago where he heavily implies that he didn't get nominated in the major categories because he's white is gaining traction: Ed Sheeran Talks Grammy Snubs: 'There's So Many Things in the Mix That Counterbalance It'
When the 2018 Grammy nominations were announced, many Ed Sheeran fans were surprised that his name was not included in the album of the year and song of the year categories. While the singer briefly touched upon the subject during a recent appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ YouTube show, he further elaborated on his feelings about the perceived snub while speaking with Billboard’s Kevan Kenney backstage at the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball concert in New York City on Friday night.
Upon being asked if he was disappointed when he heard the news, the Divide singer said he was not, explaining that he understood why it happened. “There’s a very clear reason why that happened and it’s bigger than me, like much bigger than me, and like it’s just something that, again, it was just meant to be, that is the way that this year was meant to roll out,” he says.
“You know I’m not dying, it’s not like I’m never gonna be nominated for a Grammy again,” continues Sheeran. “And I was nominated for two Grammys. This is why everything’s meant to be. The week after that, I get an MBE from the palace, I go No. 1 on Spotify, I go No. 1 on Billboard, I’m about to have my second ever Billboard No. 1, like there’s so many other things in the mix that counterbalance it.”Obnoxious and so obsessed with success.

It's crazy they go on about JT and Ed being snubbed because when popular acts get nominated and win, then the complaint is the Grammys reward popularity over quality. They can't win. I completely agree with this

Yeah, I mean it's not the most gracious answer, but it's nothing worthy of controversy.
Especially since there are others - including Hits Daily Double - that are being much more direct in their assertion that he wasn't nominated because he didn't fit the racial narrative the Academy wanted to tell.

I’m crying at this affirmative action narrative. Make good music again, Ed, and maybe you would’ve got the noms you expected.

Ed is right that he didn't get nominated because of something much bigger than him, critical acclaim. The idea that he didn't get nominated because he's a white man is some Donald Trump level bullsh*t that shouldn't even be entertained.

It's not realy Ed's fault. As soon as that many people of color were nominated in a major category that was gong to be the narrative. Some white person was going to end up labeled the "victim" of "affirmative action". It's how these things go unfortunately.

He should have taken the high road and said "it's OK, I don't care" or whatever. Even if I do think they actively tried to avoid another Adele year.

I am happy that they went with quality over popularity. If he was nominated, a lot of people on Twitter would be complaining that the Grammys have become too predictable. You can never satisfy everyone

I don't see the fuss around Ed Sheeran... He released a mediocre (or even a bit worse than that) album and has had three big hits and is nominated for a couple of Grammys. Everything should be pretty ok?

I don't think Ed will win any awards. The shutdown from the general categories are an indicative his album wasn't very well liked among the academy. On the other hand I could see Kesha getting both pop categories she's nominated for.

I'd laugh if all the odd choices won. Like if Lorde took AOTY and Ed took pop etc.

If Lorde takes AOTY, shit may hit the fan harder than it did last year. That would NOT be a good look.

Um, what? I'm not trying to have Kesha's moment ruined with f**king Cyndi Lauper and Camila Cabello up on stage with her.

I thought he handled with Grammy question with class. Eh, I found it arrogant/presumptuous. For one, he didn't automatically deserve a nod so to say there is some larger reason for it is blah to me. More than that was him saying it's not like he won't be nominated again. That may be true, but wow what presumption.
