LOL @ playing other people songs. Even if K*ndi and Tiny co-wrote them they're not Xscape songs.

LOL @ playing other people songs. Even if K*ndi and Tiny co-wrote them they're not Xscape songs. LOL and Ed Sheeran, it was so desperate, and Kandi had the nerve to give that face when Coko played Men In Black. If you start counting the ACTUAL hits you would realise that Xscape was outmatched, and SWV didn’t even play some of their best deep cuts. There‘s a reason why the holy trinity of 90s R&B was TLC, En Vogue & SWV.

I don’t even think either group hit the R&B Top 10 more than ten times. They’re pretty even to me, just a question of placing more value on SWV’s crossover.

And if you compare their signature songs, there is quite literally no comparison. Don't get me wrong, Xscape is right there behind SWV, but I do think the gap is wider between them than let's say, SWV and En Vogue.

If you just look at singles chart peaks, they did perform similarly at the time but SWV's albums sold better (It's About Time went triple Platinum, and Xscape's best-seller went Platinum) and I'd say "Weak" alone has endured far better than any Xscape hit (I'd throw in "Right Here/Human Nature" as well).
For the record, I'm a much bigger fan of SWV's music but I like Xscape too... and I'm just talking about the music. Reality shows helped boost Kandi and Tiny's public profiles way beyond any member of SWV's (even with the reality show they had, I don't think any member of SWV came close to either of their public profiles).. but I don't think it had much impact on their music.

SWV had better crossover appeal and hits than Xscape. Plus SWV was a part of the whole New Jack Swing era which contributed to their legacy and lasting impact they had.

To go back to the earlier discussion, I consider myself a huge 90s r&b fan and tbh I didn't know (or even recognize) any of Xscape's songs. I remember hearing their name in the 90s, but that's about it. I definitely knew Weak and Human Nature by SWV.
En Vogue, TLC, and Salt N Pepa were on a whole other level. They all had HUGE moments and have multiple enduring classics!

Just Kickin It, Understanding, Who Can I Run To, and The Arms of the One Who Love You are all absolutely 90s R&B classics. Like, I couldn’t imagine a 90s R&B playlist without those songs. At least on the R&B legacy side, I’d definitely put them in an ol skool mix/playlist right next to SWV’s Weak, Right Here, You’re The One, I’m So Into You, Rain, and Can We.

Six Hot 100 top 10s! I assume a few of the ones that missed the top 10 there still went top 10 R&B. I remember "Feels So Good" being an R&B jam.

There‘s a reason why the holy trinity of 90s R&B was TLC, En Vogue & SWV. TLC has 23 million in album sales in the U.S. while SWV has 4.5 million in sales. So, if Xscape isn't on SWV's level, then SWV surely isn't on TLC's level. I know in terms of R&B hits they're fairly similar, but TLC is way above the others in overall impact.
