I'm so happy for Tiny! She's back to living her dream and doing what she wants to do. TI didn't want her to have a music career. I loved on the last episode of the show when she said something like "I'm happy to be back to making music, instead of making babies."
Tiny sounded amazing in that performance, and then Kandi came right behind her and sounded a damn mess. They need to be on this promo tour doing some of the songs Tiny led like "Do You Want To."

Chilli was searching for dick on VH1 on "What Chilli Wants" for a couple of years. T-Boz was doing something on "Tottaly T-Boz". They had a hit biopic that generated an amazing amount of buzz. And it all came crashing down when they decided on doing a Kickstarter funded album and disappeared into the shadows without a hint until two years later. Xscape took the smart route by striking while the iron is still screaming hot and not cold to the touch. If TLC had released their album in early 2016 they wouldn't be opening acts for nostalgic artists that couldn't sell out club appearances. I don't think those shows are comparable to what Kandi and Tiny have done - RHOA is one of, if not the, biggest reality tv shows of the last decade. A lot of people solely know both of them from their reality tv appearances, definitely can't say the same about Chilli & T-Boz. Xscape wasted no damn time when they said they were getting back together. They announced in March, by June they already had hit up Essence Festival and the BET Awards, and now they have a docu-series running while touring as a headliner. TLC did the complete opposite by trailing out their plans over 4 or so years.

Yeah TLC blew it. I remember arguing with people on CyberTLC about how they were taking waaaay too long with the album. Kickstarter was January, the movie was February, and the album was supposed to be September. It took them 2 years to release some poorly produced shit written by Tionne. They wasted a moment.
Xscape did everything right. In less than a year they've gotten a TV show, a new manager, a hit tour, and performance slots at major events....AND they're already working on new music with hit producers. They did this while hating each other the entire time.

It's a JOB, y'all don't have to like each other. Other girl groups, please take NOTES.

You have to take into consideration that Xscape had 2 members who are still relevant in pop culture and television. They have 2 members who are hugely successful without the group. Kandi had connections at Bravo to help get them on TV. Tiny and Kandi have music connections to help with the tour and connecting with Mona Scott. TLC made terrible decisions and should've had a album out after the movie, but thy are not as well connected to relevant people in the industry today.

The only reason Xscape is getting this much attention vs the other groups is because Kandi and Tiny kept themselves relevant doing reality TV for the past decade. Exactly. Also, Xscape just works harder and wants it more at this point. They are making up for all the times they were over looked during their initial run. TLC did a lot of reality tv too. And their legacy is far greater than Xscape. They were just lazy and didn’t make the right moves. It's not the same as what Tiny and Kandi have done. Those bootleg reality shows TLC and Chilli did were not even on the same radar as Housewives (and the other spin of shows Kandi has done) and Family Hustle. No1 cares about how big you used to be in the 90s. What have you done lately is the question. Being the "biggest selling girl group" makes them entitled and they still think it's 1995 and they don't have the same work ethic. When they didn't even bother to show up for J. Cole's video shoot I knew they were completely out of touch with reality. They've received so many chances to get it right. It's sad. Also, begging for donations to record a subpar album only helped to tarnish their legacy further.

I guess I should have clarified by doing reality TV. The other groups did not appear in HIT TV shows or have the songwriting/producing connections that Kandi and Tiny have. I find it funny that people want to shade TLC only, but several other groups have had Reality TV shows as well and they were not mentioned as not taking advantage of this or that etc,.. (SWV, Brownstone, the Braxtons).
Since TLC was the only one brought up, I'll say this: It is clear that TLC fell apart because of Left Eye's death. Left Eye was the driving and creating force in that group, which is clear by now based on the decisions and output we've seem from T and C since Lefteye's death. Also people want to see all three. Even though Left Eye didn't appear on every song, the group chemistry she brought helped keep the trio's asthetic interesting and vibrant.
I believe if Left Eye had not died, the group would've probably had two or three more good albums before the jarring shift in music in the 2000s. Lefteye would have been the Kandi, and kept herself relevant so that by this time, TLC would have had a better position to comback.

I'll say I had heard of Xscape in the 90's but tbh couldn't name any of their songs. It's because of Kandi that I got excited about them getting back together, and now I'm actually enjoying their Bravo show and performances.
Anyone know when the tour comes to New York? I just might have to get myself some tickets...

I became familiar of Xscape during their 2nd album era, falling for them with "Who Can I Run To?" and even more with "Do You Want To?" and their collabos with MC Lyte. It was really interesting to see them garner a mainstream Pop hit with "The Arms of the One Who Loves You" a couple years later, only for that album to be their last before that breakup.
Revisiting their greatest hits this weekend has gotten me excited for their tour. I'm really happy at all the press they've been able to get and the way this reunion ended so well planned out. I haven't seen any of their reality shows (RHOA, Tiny & TI, etc) so it's been cool to finally see their personalities (esp those Scott sisters) in some of their recent interviews.
I'm glad they were also able to get some major songwriter/producers for this new project, as we all know what happened with TLC, and I remember watching SWV's series and hearing how nobody was offering to work with them or they had to turn to unknown producers.
Anyone know the setlist of their tour?

Off the Hook is in my top-3 of 90s girl group albums behind Funky Divas and FanMail. That album is so underrated.

The women did an exclusive interview on xmsirius FLY (my favorite station). I only caught the end of the interview but the women were asked what their favorite song is on “Traces Of My Lipstick”. LaTocha said “Softest Place On Earth” is her’s because it was the first time they really harmonized. (Whatever LaTocha) Tiny said “Hold on” and that alot of people wanna hear it on tour Kandi...said she couldnt answer because she never listens to the album because it hurts too much.... And my good sister Tamika said ”All I Need”!! Which made me really happy since it is my favorite on the album. Their best harmonies by far. Didn't Tiny say "Softest Place On Earth" is her fav Xscape song on WWHL?...

Kandi said she doesn't listen to the album since the group was at it's worst. They also mentioned SPOE lack of video.

If her favorite changed within a week, that's not surprising. I often shuffle between "My Little Secret" and "All I Need" as my favorite from their best album, "Traces Of My Lipstick".

The finale of the show was really good. It's kinda weird though how Kandi was all into it with their Detroit show..only to not want to record new music with them. And Essence festival also did them really dirty by putting them on the lounge stage instead of the main.
I hope they come back with a season 2. The show is so good.

They should've waited to do new music. They are on a successful tour now singing their old hits, why not wait and let season 2 be about recording new music to help keep buzz going for new music. I think Kandi wants to do the other things she already had planned before the reunion. She is doing Chicago on Broadway at the top of year. Maybe she just wanted to wait on the new music and the other ladies don't have much going on so they wanted to go full steam ahead.

Doesn't even sound like Xscape.
I was expecting something on the level of "Way Back".

They're both pretty solid! But like I suspected, they need Kandi. Tocha is way too dominate on the background vocals, doesn't sound like Xscape at all. "Dream Killa" practically sounds like a Tocha solo track, did Tiny and Tamika even add to the background vocals at all?

Tocha really thought she was Beyonce, but I don't know how when Kandi has sung on just as many of their hits as she has (if not more). Kandi's voice pulls them together and it's essential for their 4 part harmony live and in studio. People can say whatever they want about Kandi, but she is essential to that group.
