hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=307139Friday, June 23, 2017 DRAGONS V. KHALED: DUELING GENRESThe battle between Imagine Dragons' Evolve and DJ Khaled's Grateful is upon us, pitting two giants from different genres against each other, with each act riding high on incredible momentum going into release. The KidinaKorner/Interscope band has taken an early lead over the We The Best/Epic ringmaster at iTunes, where the Dragons’ Evolve is #1 and Khaled’s Grateful is #2 in the early going. The forecast for Khaled was 150-160k SPS, with Dragons projected to hit 140-150k. Could we see an upset on next week's chart? As streaming, where hip-hop dominates, kicks into the equation, it'll be interesting to see what inroads the rockers make throughout the week.

DJ Khaled will take it without a doubt. It's a good album too, very long though

Normally I'd be rooting for Imagine Dragons but I find their album abhorrent, so GO KHALED!

Both albums are pretty good. Listening to a playlist of them mixed currently.

I also liked both albums. I kind of wish ID takes it this week (very unlikely), because streaming is likely to keep DJ Khaled near the top spot for a long time and he might eventually reach #1 anyways.
Probably not gonna happen. ITO and Wild Thoughts streams alone should give Khaled the edge.

We all know that Khaled's album will be the more successful one so it's only fair if his album debuts on top. If not, though, it will probably rise to #1 in its second week (barring any large album drops)

So DJ Khaled pulled a "Back to Basics" and released a double disc album under 100 minutes.

Lower than expected... hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=307173Saturday, June 24, 2017 NEW RELEASES: KHALED VS. DRAGONSBased on early reads we're looking at another battle for #1 on our next SPS chart, as We The Best/Epic's DJ Khaled takes on KidinaKorner/Interscope's Imagine Dragons. It could be close, depending on the push from the acts' respective labels in the coming days. Given Khaled's guest list of hip-hop and R&B luminaries, expect streaming to be a major factor in his total. Indeed, a gander at the top songs on Apple Music shows five Grateful songs in the Top 10 (including the top two) and 11 in the Top 20. At iTunes, the Dragons have the #1 album and #2 single ("Believer"), with another track, "Thunder," gaining ground; Khaled has the #2 album and #3 and #4 singles in the download emporium as of this writing. Khaled's "I'm the One" and "Wild Thoughts" are #2 and #3 at Spotify. Here's how it's looking right now: DJ Khaled (We The Best/Epic) 135-150k SPS, 40-50k album Imagine Dragons (KidinaKorner/Interscope) 115-125k, 80-90k

Never thought I'd ever be rooting for a DJ Khaled album over an Imagine Dragons one, but oh well. Looks like this is gonna be making a pretty significant bomb on the H100 this week. That's a pretty lopsided sales/streams ratio compared to usual. I guess More Life, Damn, and Grateful are the biggest cases so far for streaming legitimately replacing sales, rather than just being the icing on the cake.

Attachment Deletedhaled is murdering on AM. 2 songs ahead of Despacito. Evolve tracks nowhere to be found in the entire top 50 (believer ranks at 51) whereas Khaled is just scattered throughout. Imagine Dragons cannot expect to compete with such lackluster streaming, even if their sales are very notable.

I'm sure Imagine Dragons is fine having the most bought album this week instead of just random streams of album tracks.

One would want the album that will be more successful in the future to start out at number one over an album that will end up being less successful.

Except the weekly chart and long-term success are unrelated. One SHOULD want the album that earns more consumption units this week to start out at number one over an album that will end up being more successful down the road.

Well I guess if they are concerned with just one week that's fine (although most artists concerned with mainly the first week would actually want the number one album which they likely won't have.). However for long term success for the album , streaming is definitely vital. Most of the alliums spending multiple weeks/months in the top 10 have great streaming numbers.

Some observations about: - 24K Magic has an outside chance to remain in the top 10 for its 32nd straight week,
- if Melodrama ends up outside the top 10, no album with a woman as lead will be in the top 10 and second straight week the previous #1 falls out of the top 10,
- two reissued albums could be in the top 10 next week.

They'd better start pushing VOTF quick, or Bruno might get his first week out of the top 10.

So Imagine Dragons will sell more than double of Khaled's PURE ALBUM sales but will miss out on the top spot of the ALBUMS chart because of SONG STREAMS?
