I DON'T GET NO SLEEP I'M UP AWAKE CAN'T STOP THINKING OF YOU AND ME AND EVERYTHING WE USED TO BE WE COULD HAVE BEEN SO PERFECT SEE I CRY
I CRY
I CRYYYYYYYY
OH! I GOTTA GET ME SOME SLEEP
Sorry, any mention of Cry requires that I start shouting that part at the top of my lungs. But Crybaby had the second-highest standard deviation of the rankdown so I guess not everybody be feeling that one as much as I or poor, sleep-deprived Mariah do lol

Damn I got the Top 5 albums in order, just like they should be! Those 3 albums are what cemented her legacy for me. From the perfect trio of #1s ("Daydream") which also gave me the best b-side ever in "Slipping Away". Liberation ("Butterfly") and musical freedom from the constraints of Tommy provided us with just beauty in all forms like the anthem "Breakdown", the sexy as all hell "Honey", pure bliss in "My All", R&B masterpiece residing in "The Roof", freeing "Butterfly", starry-night dream "Fourth of July", and silky smooth sensual "Babydoll". It all came to ahead with a true return ("The Emancipation of Mimi") after YEARS of dragging by the industry and media. B!tch said, "Hold my splash dahling" and unleashed the colossal "We Belong Together" and restored the balance in the Kingdom of Divas. From Kanye produced "Stay the Night", to bringing another Chicago icon Twista to the forefront again with two assisted jams, the soul shaking "Circles", and The Neptunes produced "Say Something" which gave us an incredibly sexy visual. Mimi is that chick! When your fave has been in the industry for that long and endured the sh!t she had to go through than, and only than, can we talk.

lol wth were Ky and I doing with I Still Believe...that drop into the 80s just comes out of nowhere
Fwiw I do like ISB, it was just never a high fave of mine and I always forget that it was a top five hit for her. Sentimental reasons for the song choice aside, Mariah has a knack for picking covers that sound almost exactly like something she would have written herself - well, aside from that grammatically incorrect 'someday you and me' which irks me even though I know it's for rhyming reasons.

Started the night on a #1s note, and since the next two are the Butterfly #1s I figure I might as well end this 20th anniversary night on a #1 too.

I think it speaks to how much Butterfly is adored/respected as a complete album, that it won its rankdown while the two #1s only fall in the middle of theirs.

I wish someone had ranked "My All" at #8 so there would be at least one person who ranked it at each position lol
I love Mariah's #1s for the most part but "My All" is one song that I just couldn't get into as much as her other songs.

I wish someone had ranked "My All" at #8 so there would be at least one person who ranked it at each position lol Arghhhh why'd you say this? That's going to keep my OCD self awake for the rest of the night now! And My All is the fifth and final #1 to have both a #1 and a #18 ranking, so that is guaranteed not to happen for any other song either.

Very sad to see Circles leave :( this was one of the best discoveries for me in this RD (#16). Sounds really classic, timeless, but without sounding old, aged. And her voice sounds great. Also sad at another top 20 loss for me with Get Your Number. I heard this song for the first time earlier this year, and I really liked it, especially the sample of Just An Illusion.

Ky GIVE ME YOUR IP ADDRESS AND PHYSICAL ADDRESS BECAUSE I'M COMING FOR YOU! Haha, for my Honey ranking? Just never was a fan, and on such a strong list of number ones where I truly love 17 songs (including the obvious 18 for most people, TGIFY), it had to take the bottom for me.

You accidentally put the Daydream album as the 2nd #1.
Hero: Easily one of the better self-empowerment anthems I've ever heard.
Heartbreaker: I have a confession to make; I don't like Mariah's transformation from pop/R&B to hip-hop. It's not bad, but I don't think it's a good fit for her.
I Still Believe: It's a good song, nothing more to add.
Honey: For her third #1 debut, this is easily the weakest of the bunch for me. It just isn't all that good imo, and I don't see what's so good about it.
My All: It's probably her best song in the late 90s, mostly because of her beautiful voice and elegance of the song itself. That and it sounds like something that could be played during a sex scene in a movie, or in a Bond film.

Y'all did "Circles," "Crybaby" and "To Be Around You" a bit dirty. They deserved better. "I Still Believe" slays, deserved at least top 30.
"Heartbreaker" should've been above "Honey" tbh.

In terms of #1s: 13. One Sweet Day: Well, it's true that it's not Mariah's (or BIIM's) best one, but I feel its being a 16-week #1 has made it less appreciated with time. It's a strong, emotional ballad, where both artists really complement their voices. It should've been a top 10 here, but not surprised 12. Someday: Yeah, this one never convinced me. I like the verses but I dislike the chorus, and hasn't aged that well for me. 11. Love Takes Time: I wasn't a big fan of this one back in the day. I actually liked I Don't Wanna Cry more... but when I paid more attention to both again when #1s was released, I got hooked on LTT and it became one of my favorite ballads from her in terms of delivery, lyrics, mood (whereas IDWC didn't feel as strong anymore). It became a personal chart-topper when it finally entered my chart in 1999. 10. Hero: This was Mariah's third #1 and biggest hit in my personal chart in the first half of the 90s, and it has become a comforting, empowering song in many tough moments of my life. I've sung this song out loud in down times. No shame. Wish it could've ranked a bit higher, but at least it made top 10. 9. Heartbreaker: Yay, top 10! I have a soft spot for this one. Loved the video, but regardless of it, I just love the vibe, beat, voice. I could've ranked it a bit higher than #10, but this zone was hard to decide. 8. Honey: Mmmm. It was an important song for Mariah in terms of big image, style, genre change, and I like it, but just not as much as other songs. It peaked at #3 in my personal chart and I ranked it at #11. 7. My All: YAY!! One of my faves from Mariah, even though I ended ranking it at #9. Love the Spanish vibe, plus the fact that she actually released a version in Spanish (in a different key), as the music lent itself to a Spanish version (just like You'll See and Unbreak My Heart did as well).
