Are we gonna pretend like Donald Glover shouting out the song on one of the most viewed events on the tv this year didn't boost it, at all? Because it did.

I think Lights by Ellie Goulding was the biggest recent surprise for me. It doesn't sound like a US hit and I was surprised by each milestone it hit. it kept slowly climbing up the chart.

Anything that pretty jumped up as a direct result of the ever so cancerous Vine.

Rihanna- Birthday Cake ft. Chris Brown
I know it's a Rihanna song, but at the time (so close to the assault), that Chris Brown feature should've sent this song straight to obscurity. Well, that or the synth.
On a brighter note, DNA by Kendrick, mainly due to other songs like SOTT or Million Reasons having MUCH harsher drops down the chart despite an actual radio push (not just the very bottom of the Rhythmic and Urban charts).

Just to add to memes helping songs and whatnot. Bare in mind I'm not a rap fan in any way, I never heard B&B so I didn't even know it existed until I started seeing these stupid rain drop droptop memes all over the internet. Literally, made no sense, then I found out it was from the song, and then it still made no sense, but anyway that's when I first heard of B&B.

Obvious answer, but pretty much any Vine song, with the biggest being Juju On That Beat.

By the time Juju On That Beat came, Vine hits stopped being anywhere close to "unexpected" for me. If something was starting to get big there, it was an instant sign it was coming to the top 10 or at least top 20.

Halsey- "Now or Never". This song is ok but how the heck is it #3 on mediabase? Amen to this. It bothers me that such mediocre songs like this and "Attention" are smashing when artists with great songs like Dau Lipa, Lauv, Starley, Hey Violet, and even veteran artists like Lady Gaga and Lorde are failing to make a splash. This is such a good year for pop music, but all the best stuff is being tossed to the side. If "Praying" ends up stalling I'm going to throw in the towel on 2017. And "Despacito" is the most boring #1 in a long time, and to think it could break the all time record?! At least 2017 let "It Ain't Me" be a hit.

Didn't Vine not even exist when JuJu on That Beat was popular?

Didn't Vine not even exist when JuJu on That Beat was popular? Vine died in January 2017, so no, it still existed at the time. However, even if Vine didn't exist, "Juju on That Beat" would've been popular at least on some level anyway because Vine is NOT the only social media website/app that exists out there.

It's one of the only songs right now that even sounds like a summer jam and there's definitely movement. Latin music has always prided itself on having a lot of fun, upbeat music, and this is no different. The Bieber version kind of ruins it, but it's a bop, no less.

Also, all the artists mentioned are women, which almost seems kind of biased. I like Lorde, Dua Lipa and Gaga, but still.

Bodak Yellow is predicted to hit the top 10 on Monday. So, anyone else think streaming has caused the quality of music to decline in recent years?
