I get that I probably like this more than others, BUT cmon, there are 2-3 others that should have easily gone before this! Grrr!

Definitely a solid album if I like my 4th lowest ranked song, lol.

Really though, WHAT??!!!!!?!?! "I Want You" has like the most epically understated vocal performance of Sara's entire career. Her use of head voice in the choruses is so delicious, especially when paired with the prominent male harmonies. Her voice just sounds so soft and airy, and then she just keeps going up and up, past where you would normally expect her to stop! Timbre-wise she reminds me a lot of Allison Krauss on this song. Not to mention the lyrics being amazing!
I never expected this song to win or anything, but I definitely thought it would AT LEAST be in the middle... I love almost every song here, and I would have still gotten rid of at least a half dozen of them before this one...

It doesn't sadden me, but the songs I ranked below this were MUCH worse, so a little disappointed it is already out. But no big deal for me.

Obviously I really liked this song and based on some of the pre-reveal questionnaires I will probably not do too well overall.

Like our last place finisher, we have another case where only one person loses a #14 rank here, though about half of us put this song in our Bottom 5 as well. There's another Top 5 loss as well, though only one this time rather than three. This one, "I Want You," and the song that came in at #12 that we'll see next all swapped places for the bottom slot routinely throughout the entire submission process. I don't think anything else ever occupied the bottom spot, though our eventual #11 was lower than at least 1 or 2 of the trio at one point. "Letting You Go" is Sara's emotional tribute to her oldest child, Avery, who is nearing the age where he'll leave home and go to college. Lyrically it's perhaps a little saccharine and far from being one of the most interesting songs on the record musically, but Sara totally sells the song with a great vocal performance that is understated and yet powerful when she needs to be. There's definitely some great lyrical moments sprinkled in there as well, including the bit that I quoted below, and also the slight nod to "Born to Fly" in the chorus. "'Cause time is a liar Wish I could set the clock on fire Turn it back to yesterday Oh, but it just keeps tickin' away"

MUCH better elimination than yesterday. I'm still shocked about "I Want You", but I was 100% expecting this one to leave early. I do enjoy this one, but as you can see it made my bottom 3... This is not due to any lack of quality in the song, it is merely a product of how stiff the competition is! The lyrics to "Letting You Go" are pretty touching, especially when you know the backstory. Vocally Sara sounds pretty good, although I do think she sounds a little overbearing in the second half of this song. This is also a song where I wish she had pushed her range a little bit more, because it feels like the song never really reaches a proper climax. Still, I do enjoy this one! I can just definitely understand why it is out early.
My prediction for next is "A Little Bit Stronger"!

Like .indulgecountry mentioned, it's not the most interesting song on the record, but for me the simplicity of "Letting You Go" just works. It helps that I don't mind saccharine lyrics, but I think the subject matter combined with the simplicity of the song makes Sara's delivery come across as very honest.

Nailed it! Right where it should be. It has some beautiful moments, but I am ultimately not a parent and it is the one "boring" moment of the album for me.

We lose our third and final song to eclipse the 200-point mark, and the last of the tracks to take turns moonlighting as our #14 during the submissions process. It was saved from the bottom near the end thanks to the last 4 or 5 lists I received that collectively boosted it above the last two ballads that bit the dust. Unlike the last two, this one sees multiple (three, precisely) #14 ranks being squelched here, though it isn't without its fans as well seeing as another three also lose a Top 5 in the process. "Night Light" is a song that's results in this surprised me. It was much more divisive than I expected; the last two songs being eliminated early I anticipated fully, but all the low ranks (especially several #14 placements) I did not predict to receive for this one. I think that her vocals on this are absolutely incredible and I love how rich and full her voice sounds on this, and there's this nice texture/vibrato kind of effect to her notes on this that are really noticeable and just lovely. It's so sexy. I also dig the vibe of the song musically and enjoy the "hah-hah-ah" background vocal that opens and closes it. Still, Words is a strong record, so this song is middle-of-the-pack for me yet. "I used to lay awake thinking there were monsters under my bed Now I'm looking up counting stars on the ceiling instead"

A little bit unexpected, but I am also totally okay with this. This song is pretty middle-of-the-pack for me as well. Her voice is amazing as always, and I also love the background vocals in the intro/outro of the song. But there are much better songs here that I am glad this one did not beat!

I think the placement of "I Want You" and "Letting You Go" in the album hurts. They shouldn't be that close in the end of the album. "Night Light" underperformed :( The song is not too slow like the others and I think the melody is decent.

I liked the "story behind the song" when we know a new position.I thought "A Little Bit Stronger" would go soon not because the song but because its like a bonus.

Welp, y'all sure made room for this one near the bottom that's for sure. This one winding up so low surprised me even more than the slight shock I had from all the low rankings for "Night Light," as I definitely expected this one to do better. Ranks were all over the place for this and we say goodbye to three more #14 ranks, while also losing our first #2 ranks courtesy of both bboat11 and Cody Wants Out..., and several other Top 5 placements as well. "Make Room at the Bottom" is a song originally recorded by critical darling Ashley Monroe for her debut album, Satisfied, about a decade ago. A lyrically brief song about heartbreak, it finds the narrator anticipating a fall to rock bottom and requesting space to land there. Even though the song on paper is overly-simplistic, the vocal performance is breathtaking and the instrumentation laden with ample fiddle is equally gorgeous. It reminds me a little topically and musically of Miranda Lambert's "Tin Man." "Make room at the bottom I've been kicked around So I'm coming down"

Even Ashley Monroe's version of this song is too boring compared to Pain, Pain, That's Why We Call Each Other, etc. in that album, so not that surprising for me.

"Make Room at the Bottom" is so beautiful... And that melody has been stuck in my head for like a month straight now! The production is so sparse and traditional, and this song really allow's Sara's vibrato and head voice to shine. It definitely does not deserve to be in the bottom 4...
