I am very excited for this new chapter in Carrie's career. I wonder if this focus on global success also means that they will actually try promoting some of her music on the CHR format here in the US?
Regardless, I'm expecting a single in early 2018 with the album to follow in the spring, similar to the schedule of Blown Away's release ("Good Girl" was released in February 2012, with the album released on May 1st). We haven't had any reports of Carrie actually starting to work on new music, and I think UMG will be focused on Shania's comeback album for the remainder of this year, which leads me to believe we won't get new Carrie music until 2018. It seems like they are excited to have her, but also want to take their time and 'get it right'.

Maybe UMG will use their muscle to get Carrie on the Superbowl Halftime next year since it's on NBC.
New album out Feb 2nd, Superbowl Feb 4th.
JK - that won't happen. I bet they will go for 2 singles before the new album since that is irregular for Carrie. Single #1 Fall, peak around CMA? (which means it has to come out soon), single #2 peak March with new album release.

Carrie 2019 and if they want to make her 'a global star,' that means they need Shaniafy her releases with alternative non-US country mix.

There is absolutely no reason why she should not be a WW superstar. She has everything it takes except the right marketing team.
Hopefully this happens with Capitol.

I know she's been very adamant about being a country singer and being against remixing her songs, which I've never quite understood, since a lot of her material has pop leanings. It's not like she's Miranda Lambert, Gretchen Wilson, or Ashley Monroe and is straight up country. She appeals to people who aren't normally country fans and I've never understood why she wouldn't take advantage of that. I'm not saying she should go all out pop like Taylor or make a pop version of every single she puts out, but there is absolutely no reason why songs like "Good Girl" and "Blown Away" shouldn't have been promoted to other formats in their original form.

I read somewhere that 13 years ago today Carrie auditioned for American Idol. So crazy that her decision to drive with her Mom to St. Louis on that day lead to all of this. And I'm SO glad she did! Haha

She must be writing with the Love Junkies. I also noticed that she followed Aubrie Sellers on Twitter and liked a tweet of her performing "Sit Here and Cry." I could see Carrie adopting that "garage country" sound of hers.

On CarrieFans they pointed out that the Storyteller co-writes 'Storm Chaser' and 'Save It' were just registered to BMI, but 'Watered Down' wasn't added and it was written with the same co-writers. Could that be indicative of anything?

Luke Bryan has a collaboration with a female artist on his upcoming album... On CarrieFans they pointed out that the Storyteller co-writes 'Storm Chaser' and 'Save It' were just registered to BMI, but 'Watered Down' wasn't added and it was written with the same co-writers. Could that be indicative of anything? Probably just oversight on the part of the publisher. All three of those songs were written for Storyteller.

Unfortunately I don't think we're getting anything for quarter four this year. I thought maybe back in April/May but I don't think it's likely at this point. Carrie doesn't seem the type to do a surprise release.
I could maybe see her pulling a Blown Away type deal, and releasing the album in the spring of 2018?

This isn't all that revealing or anything, but it's a look into what's being asked of songwriters and song-pluggers for the upcoming album. Seeking RANGY MID/UPTEMPOS with depth lyrics. No references to cheating or divorces in the lyrics. Inspirational themes probably a plus. Story songs fine. Do not imitate the same topics of previous Carrie no. 1 hits.

Lmao Carrie is so done with always having to release singles about cheating and bad boys. Sony has had her in that box forever.

I actually liked her singing songs about cheating although I get it being stereotypical. Hope we don't have to wait long

Also, I really don't want inspirational songs, she's had enough in my opinion, and they can get cliche and hokey. I like cheating and divorce songs, so I hope they don't totally disregard them.

I get that Carrie loves those revenge/guy did me wrong/cheating/divorce songs, but she is a happily married woman,so those songs really don't reflect where she is in her life right now. There is a reason that people have pigeonholed Carrie as a person that is only out to kill guys & get revenge on them because they did her wrong or cheated on her, because those are the ONLY songs she has sang & therefore people think that is who she actually is as a person. There has to be more to life than singing about those things & I hope that the next album's songwriting reflects that.

What?? That simply is not true. But glad to hear she wants to steer clear of boy bashing songs. Also hopes she mostly steers clear of inspirational, you can do, it'll all get, better songs.Don't mind story songs as Carrie does them so well.Hopefully if we get a great one we'll get an actual video to go along with it and not another lame concert advertisement.

I went to the old thread few days ago and wondered why it was so quiet. Silly me, of course you guys will be here already.
Thanks for starting this as usual, Ty!

Missed this thread's creation entirely, but thank you for the lovely setup as always, Typo! Really excited to see where she goes artistically with this next record. Lowkey hoping for a super grungy, 'Choctaw'-esque blues-country record. I'n ready for another innovative era, like Blown Away.
Also, new SNF opening comes next weekend (9/10).

I'm really interested to see how the next era will pan out creatively. If she wants to be a global star, she basically has to release heavy pop-leaning material I would imagine.

This album will likely be as Pop-oriented as any other Carrie Underwood album. As long as she's working with country songwriters and producers, she's not going to be making a serious bid at any significant global airplay. I think she just wants to strengthen her draw as a touring act in Europe and Australia and maybe increase her general brand awareness through other projects. Where did you see this? :o Pitch #1515

Quietly enough, she teamed up with Sam Hunt again last night and held a charity event in Nashville last night. The two of them were on stage together taking turns performing acoustic songs of theirs to a crowd of about 100 at Fontinel (a famous mansion in the city that once belonged to Barbara Mandrell) to help raise money for a Honduran orphanage. They ended up raising $602,000 over the course of the whole evening. https://www.instagram.com/p/BYw8FonjGc3 Partial JTTW. She sounds absolutely divine. https://www.instagram.com/p/BYy7TuYjr5D

(Forgive me for double-posting.) Looks like she wrote a new song exclusively for the Superbowl that'll debut in a special opening sequence that they filmed over a fourth day, on the set of the 3-day taping of this year's opening. Song is called "The Champion," and Fred Gaudelli directly asked her to write something for the occasion (Gaudelli is the exec. producer of SNF). Cool gig; let's hope the song isn't as corny as the title. Gaudelli, Underwood, Dixon, and company also took a fourth day to shoot the opening segment for Super Bowl 52. In the past, when NBC has had the Super Bowl, the opening segment has featured a variation on the “Sunday Night Football” theme. But this year, Gaudelli asked Underwood to write a new number. Her song “The Champion” will debut ahead of the big game in February.
“I think it’s going to become a sports anthem,” he says. “It’s going to be one of those songs that you see cut to highlights for the next 25 years.”
Underwood — whose hockey-player Mike Fisher retired from the Nashville Predators at the end of last season — was able to test the song with a small audience in the target demo.
“My husband loved it,” she says. “He would listen to it before playoff games. He was like ‘I want everyone to hear it!’ and I had to tell him, ‘You can’t do that. You can’t play it in the locker room. I’m sorry.’ But that was a good indicator that we were on the right track.” -Variety

"The Champion" is written by the same team behind "Something in the Water" - Chris DeStefano, Brett James and Carrie. If it's as great as Gaudelli suggests, I hope they use it for the 2018 Winter Olympics airing on NBC as well.
