Very happy with the winner. If only No Diggity and Gangsta Paradise were in the top 10 too, but oh well. I, too, am confused with how many people here love Kiss From A Rose. Not a bad song, but the overwhelming love for it surprised me.
Oh, and thanks Aero for hosting. This was fun!
Oh #2: congrats to Disco who almost nailed the top 2!

The top 20 was roughly 75% r&b/hip-hop, a pleasantly surprising plot twist given how this rankdown started. Also, it's so rare that my #1 ever wins anything so I'm super happy about this outcome! I am shocked though however at how KFAR is that loved compared to other R&B songs. What makes it so special compared to the others? Well, most people don't consider it (or Seal himself) r&b, for one thing. It only peaked at #52 on hot r&b/hip-hop, and I'm surprised it even did that much. OTOH, it was #1 on top 40, AC, and HAC and won a Grammy for best male pop vocal. So as a pop song, it is well-liked. But it is not a song that I hear most people say they LOVE. So it always performs well in rankdowns, but is never a threat to win.

These are the only ones I liked from tonight's final reveals.
24. The Sign - Ace of Base This one also had that percussion style that is less than desireable, but it also had a great melody. That goes a long way. 23. Genie in a Bottle - Christina Aguilera Another pop song that was a big hit among my hard rock crowded personal charts. The melody of this song was also a bit sultry. I loved the idea of having a female genie to grant all my wishes.
19. Un-Break My Heart - Toni Braxton Remarkable R&B ballad.
18. That's the Way Love Goes - Janet Jackson This isn't "nasty" Mrs Jackson, but still one of my favorites. Love that video.
17. Believe - Cher I prefer Glam Cher, but I admit kinding liking this one too.
15. Vision of Love - Mariah Carey This woman gets free passes on my charts, cuz her vocals are remarkably epic.
13. The Boy Is Mine - Brandy and Monica This is the song I was talking about earlier. This two girls sounded great together. Very sultry R&B ballad. too.
12. ...Baby One More Time - Britney Spears This one and Crazy, Toxic, Stronger, Oops, and Overprotected, are my favorites.
11. Dreamlover - Mariah Carey Another free ride for Mariah on my charts.,
10. Black or White - Michael Jackson I always respected Michael. he always remembered to add some Guitar vibe to his songs.
8. Always Be My Baby - Mariah Carey Girl knew how to make a grand Pop son.
7. I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston I Love Whitney, cuz she is a Leo woman, but this song was just alright in my book.
5 Smooth - Santana f/ Rob Thomas Classic, but not one of my absolute favorites.
4. Kiss from a Rose - Seal The sing along afactor here is super high, as we all saw on the Vacation reboot from last year.
2. Vogue - Madonna I fucking hated House music , cuz it killed off High Energy and Freestyle, but Leave it to Madonna to be the only artist that made me like a House beats song.
1. Fantasy - Mariah Carey Great this would have been the Mariah song I put in my top 10 too. Love the "Genius Of Love" rehash.

40. Wannabe (36): Still a pure pop gem :) 39. I Love You Always Forever (32): Really like the smooth, lush vibe and style of this one till this day. 38. Livin' la Vida Loca (21): For those of us Latinos who had followed Ricky's career since the 1980s with Menudo and then as a solo artist, his growth as a solid male artist, were EXTREMELY excited after he reached global success with Maria and then with The Cup Of Life, and especially with his breakthrough performance at the Grammys, that led to Madonna's backing as well. LLVL was a huge moment in Latin music, and the song itself was a BOP. Should've been much higher here!! 37. You Make Me Wanna... (43): My favorite from Usher in the 1990s by far. 36. Return of the Mack (64): I like the vibe, structure, melody, but not this dude's voice. Still, the song had enough good elements to become a hit in my personal chart. 35. Truly, Madly, Deeply (23): Oh! WOW! Surprised this is leaving this early. A 2-week personal chart-topper and one of the biggest hits of the year back home. SG was kind of a big thing back home, and they reached my personal top 2 several times with songs like Affirmation, Crash and Burn (my personal favorite), TML, Animal Song, I Want You, I Knew I Loved You. 34. All That She Wants (39): OK! This was a refreshing moment where a reggae-inspired song led the charts and introduced us to AoB. The next singles made them THE biggest artist of the year back home. ATSW is my 4th favorite song from them. 33. Take a Bow (40): I do like her vocals here, the lush production, and Babyface's bgvs. It was a personal chart-topper as well, but didn't end up in my personal hot 100 of the decade. I'll Remember, You'll See, Ray of Light, Frozen, Deeper and Deeper, The Power of Goodbye, This Used to Be My Playground, and of course Vouge, all were also chart-toppers, but only the first 5 ones and Vogue made it to my personal decade hot 100. 32. If You Had My Love (47): I'll always look at the Latin explosion with pride and happiness :) Seeing JLo, RM, Marc Anthony, Shakira, Christina, all charting within a year was awesome. IYHML was another cool moment, with a video that was HOT and Rico :) 31. Nathan' but a 'G' Thang (97): Never cared for this one up until today. Sorry not sorry...

30. Together Again (48): Yay! Pop Janet! This became just the 8th top 5 from Janet in my personal chart, following When I Think of You, Rhythm Nation, Escapade, That's the Way... , If, Runaway, and Scream. Very nice pop melody that I can still use.
29. Don't Let Go (50): Strong vocals, sort of a rock-tinged R&B, made this one of the few R&B songs that reached my personal top 2 in the 1990s. Still love it.
28. It's All Coming Back To Me Now (9): WTF?!! First Meat Loaf, now Celine Dion. You guys don't appreciate the masterfulness of Jim Steinman! Celine has never sounded so convincing, dynamic, strong, displaying all types of emotions without over signing. One of my favorites ever by Celine, and a song that was a 2-week personal chart-topper and amongst the best of the decade for me. Celine managed to place this one, My Heart Will Go On, Immortality and To Love You More in my decade hot 100.
27. You're Still The One (12): BOOOO!!! Another disappointment. This song sounded like a timeless classic since the first time I heard it. And it never sounds aged or out of place.
26. This Is How We Do It (63): I grouped this one with Return of the Mack, but Montell sounds better :) A good enough, groovy song, but this one overstayed here.
25. Mo Money Mo Problems (33): One of my favorite raps of the decade. The interpolation of Diana's I'm Coming Out was one of the most effective interpolations of the decade. Glad to see it in the top 30.
24. The Sign (2): ARGHH!!!! This is my 6th top 10 leaving >:( Another case of a song I loved from the first time I heard it. It's a simple, pure pop gem. It's short but effective. Love the harmonies, the music, vibe, everything :) Ace of Base managed to have 4 back-to-back personal chart-toppers, and all of them in my hot 100 of the decade: ATSW, Happy Nation, Don't Turn Around and The Sign.
23. Genie In A Bottle (73): About time! I mean, I liked it for it was, but even at that time this was more in the genre of disposable bubble-gum pop for me. Weekly personal top 5 still but didn't make my decade hot 100
22. Hypnotize (80): YAS! This is what I call an 'only-chorus' song... I liked the chorus but then it's all water, vanilla, bland, MEH.
21. Nothing Compare 2 U (15): >:( Geez!! I mean, I can understand people tanking some of the early 1990s songs because they don't know them, but then how the hell are Black or White or Dreamlover going to surpass this GEM. Long live Prince!

20. No Diggity (88): FINALLY, my lone bottom 30 remaining made it too too far here. I guess the beat and vibe are cool, but beyond that I never dug it...
19. Un-break My Heart (11): My favorite from Toni for sure. I love her vocal performance here, plus the Spanish ballad style connects home, plus she made a version in Spanish as well catering to Latinos (yay!). She had done the same with Breathe Again, another song from Toni that made my decade hot 100.
18. That's the Way Love Goes (41): This reached #3 in my weekly chart (not popular back home at all), but with time I grew to appreciate it much more and it's slowly become a song I come back often.
17. Believe (7): This was such a surprise and so left-field! First time I heard it I thought it was a remixed version of a typical rockier Cher song. The song was strong, the vocoder/autotune was something different for radio, and the whole dance beat made her voice shine even stronger. One of the most popular songs back home and one of my favorite dance songs.
16. Gangsta's Paradise (14): This was one of my favorite rap songs of the decade. A personal chart-topper that still sounds epic!
15. Vision of Love (22): This was almost never played back home. It didn't make my personal chart in 1990. However, during the #1s era, I made a point to make amends with Mariah, and charted several songs from her first two eras. VoL then reached the top of my charts. This is one of Mariah's best for sure. The epic instrumentation, her crisp and clear vocals, all work.
14. Creep (53): I do like this one. It made my personal top 5, but I just like other songs more. Won't complain at seeing it this high.
13. The Boy Is Mine (42): Another R&B song that topped my chart. I really liked the vibe, playful vocals, the use of the strings too.
12. ...Baby One More Time (16): A classic moment in pop history that, given the songs left, deserved making the top 10. Regardless of being sung by Britney, the melody of this song is super strong and for sure a 1990s classic.
11. Dreamlover (78): Oh, geez! Finally, the last song in my bottom 40 to leave. I love Mariah, but this one is amongst her least memorable #1s for me.

Y'all let Mariah win and true rap be lost. Why just why? 2Pac barely made it in the top 10 and Biggie had his best song ever barely finishing in the top 25. To all tankers: WHY?

I will see how the rest of this trainwreck plays out. Ha! My #1 made it farther than yours even though everybody shit on my top 30 in this rankdown.

#4 Kiss from a RoseSeal
Given how U BITCHES obliterated my top 30 in the bottom half of the rankdown, the fact that my #1 lasted all the way to #4 on this rankdown is a triumph, as far as I'm concerned.

Wow I did well in closeness which is surprising really. I guess having the winning #1 helped me. Well thank you for a fun rankdown!
