Months ago I laid claim to a Halloween rankdown, and now I am finally ready to reveal the list I've picked 50 songs - I tried to include the most well known Halloween perennials, but also threw in some non-holiday classics and lesser-known songs that fit the Halloween theme. It's a pretty diverse mix so I'm not expecting many people to be familiar with everything here, but please take the time out to give all the songs a chance before ranking them - I have fairly good taste, I promise! :) 1. Rank all 50 songs from most favorite (1) to least favorite (50). 2. Send your ranked list to me via PM by Sunday, 10/15 11:59 PM CST; this deadline gives a full two months to check out all the songs. No extensions will be granted beyond that (this is already an extension from my originally planned deadline of 10/8). As far as I know there aren't any other rankdowns due in October yet so there aren't any conflicts for now. although lbr this will not be the case later lol3. The results will be compiled using a straightforward point system - a #1 rank gets 1 point, a #2 rank gets 2 points, etc. The song with the fewewst # of points will win the rankdown. Here is the song list in sorter-friendly format: AC/DC - Highway to Hell Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare Banks - Haunt The Beatles - Maxwell's Silver Hammer Beyonce - Haunted Blue Oyster Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper Broken Bells - The Ghost Inside The Charlie Daniels Band - The Devil Went Down to Georgia Cher - Dark Lady Childish Gambino - Zombies The Cramps - I Was a Teenage Werewolf The Cranberries - Zombies Danny Elfman - This Is Halloween DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - A Nightmare On My Street The Doors - People Are Strange Eagles - Hotel California Elliott Smith - Son of Sam Eminem f. Rihanna - The Monster Evanescence - Haunted Fleetwood Mac - Rhiannon Florence + The Machine - Seven Devils Garth Brooks - The Thunder Rolls Geto Boys - Mind Playing Tricks On Me Haley Reinhart - Spiderweb Hall & Oates - Maneater Jessie Ware - Night Light Kanye West f. Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, and Bon Iver - Monster Katherine McPhee - Appetite Kesha - Cannibal Kris Allen - Monster Lady Gaga - Monster Lana Del Rey - Gods and Monsters Michael Jackson - Thriller Miguel - Don't Look Back Nelly Furtado - Maneater Outkast - Dracula's Wedding Paramore - Monster Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight P!nk - Funhouse Radiohead - Creep Ray Parker, Jr. - Ghostbusters Rihanna - Disturbia Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me Rocky Horror Picture Show - Time Warp Santana - Black Magic Woman Shakira - She Wolf Stevie Wonder - Superstition Trey Songz - Blind Twenty One Pilots - Heathens Van Halen - Runnin' With the Devil Youtube playlist hereSpotify: (These two songs are not available on Spotify: Garth Brooks - The Thunder Rolls and Haley Reinhart - Spiderweb) Also, I will be doing honorable mentions leading up to the reveal, probably around 30 or 40 songs? So this won't be a daily thing but it will be pretty frequent. If you do not want to be tagged, let me know. If you weren't tagged and want to be included, let me know. Feel free to tag anyone you think would be interested! I am lazy and stole these tags from another thread.

Calling some of these songs Halloween-y is a real stretch but I guess you did what you had to do (though missing The Monster smash is a bit of a head scratcher too)
Criticisms aside, there's some great stuff on here and I'll partake if I have the time :)

admittedly not my favorite Elliott Smith song, but he'll appear in a rankdown for the first (and last?) time

I must have chopped it by accident when I was trying to whittle the song list down to 50, but I definitely meant for Monster Mash to be there. Purple People Eater isn't there either, sigh. Both of those are blatant errors but I don't think I care enough to fix the issue. I had planned on doing 'honorable mentions' for songs that didn't make the list so I'll have to squeeze them in that way.

I don't know lots of these but there are a couple of great songs I want to boost so I'll try to send a list.

I spot my #1 already.
I know roughly half of these, so I'll try to give this one a go.

Too much rock huh Yeah, I mean I know some of these songs but nope. Yeah, this could have easily been turned into a pure rock rankdown, when i was trying to find songs for the list it seemed like almost everything was from that genre. Like Anna said above, I had to stretch a bit for the non-rock songs that did make it here.

Yeah, this is going to be one I'm participating in.
No real complaints about the list as a whole. There's a couple of artists that are noticeably missing (no Manson, as an example), but you can't get them all.

Love the concept @antigonerising! I'm familiar with about 2/3 of them. I'll do this.

I know about half of the songs and some lesser known songs that I love are on here (Kris Allen's "Monster" awesome choice!). I will definitely be participating but I do have quite a few songs to listen to before I can do my ranking but count on me to participate in this!

There were SO many good songs that I left off the list because I didn't want to scare people off with too many 'new' songs to listen to. Leading up to the reveal, I'll be giving mentions to some of the songs that didn't make the cut. Yes, Oct. 31 is 2 1/2 months away, but it's never too early to start getting amped up for Halloween (These honorable mentions have nothing to do with the rankdown itself; if you only want to be tagged for occasional reminders let me know and I'll leave you out of these.) Anyway, my first mention goes to... She held me spellbound in the night, dancing shadows and firelight...All the artists in the rankdown were limited to one song, but Eagles were definitely a group I considered making an exception for; both this and Hotel California are classics. Witchy Woman is probably the more on-theme song of the two, but HC won out just b/c I love that one a little bit more. Quite a few of the songs that I did put in the rankdown made it because in my mind they fit a 'witchy woman' theme, albeit more subtly - Haley's Spiderweb, Kat's Appetite, Cher's Dark Lady, and Fleetwood Mac's Rhiannon (which literally was inspired by a Welsh witch tale). Trey Songz takes a third point of view in Blind and sings about a woman who put a spell on a lust-struck man before becoming a "psychopathic lover" and killing him (although one might say its implied motel setting is more in line with Hotel California).

"Witchy Woman" always reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine wants this to be the song that she and her boyfriend share.

"Witchy Woman" always reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine wants this to be the song that she and her boyfriend share. lololol I always remember that episode, except I associate it with Desperado because that's the song her boyfriend was into. He made her sit there in silence while it was playing, and also refused to let it be "their" song when she tried to force some togetherness that way.
