Tastefully and respectfully give Janet time to shine and all will be healed. However if he never addresses it in anyway that’s terrible and I ll lose some respect for him (coming from someone who loves his first two albums). I’m not even close to a Janet fan, I think I like maybe two songs from her and I was too young to know anything about that Super Bowl, yet it’s clear to me she deserves something out of this

If anything it should have been both of them booked (honestly not a fan of either but whatever) and it should be an apology, hell recreate it lol America can grow the fuck up and see a boob...

He is getting rightfully dragged on Twitter right now. Here for any dragging this mf receives. White privilege is real y'all. And misogyny.

So bored by this choice. Why does he get to play the Superbowl 3 times, but national-treasure Pink hasn't done it once?

I think it was time for a country artist to perform.
Carrie Underwood Luke or Jason Aldean
I'm not a huge fan of any of those people but I think it's been way too long since a country headlined halftime show.

Still hoping for a tiny bit of LILY.

I have had more white mediocrity and white hypocrisy rubbed in my face this past year than I can handle... and f**k, I'm white. I can't even imagine how everyone who isn't feels when sh*t like this happens. I will actively not be watching this. I'm sure he'll give a perfectly nice performance and all the Caucasians will be talking about it over brunch, but NOPE.
I will tune in if Janet is allowed her moment and that's it. And please don't let the NFL and Justin try to push another black guest outside of Janet onstage just to deflect controversy. Please, just don't. I'm sure Chrisette Michele is already waiting by the phone.

Glad to see this gaining steam It's not going by the retweets. Nipplegate was staged and it wasn't Justin's fault. Janet stans need to move on. -- NFL apparently wanted Justin for years: “This is who they’ve wanted for a long time,” the source tells ET. “He’s the guy.”
The source adds that Timberlake and his team have yet to start conceptualizing the halftime show.

Still hoping for a tiny bit of LILY. I think he'll do Drink You Away because I'm sure that pretty much everything else will be choreographed and his shorter setlists always have at least one song where he plays the guitar. What Goes Around... is a classic but it would sound out of place. There's a terrific mix of Like I Love You and SexyBack from the iTunes festival in 2013 which would be perfect for the intro: I prefer the second part of Mirrors to the first but it easily makes the most sense as the closer.

I wonder if you'd be saying this a couple years ago before his SB ban was lifted. I'm sure your stan card's lack of translucency is making it tough for you to see or understand why this is such a frustrating announcement for many to read, but at least *try* to merely entertain confronting how problematic this is.

I'm sure Chrisette Michele is already waiting by the phone. It's especially frustrating because, objectively, he'll probably put on a really good, slick show, and then get to enjoy the cushy ride that comes from "unexpected" praise and rising above negativity to deliver something good, blah blah blah, when the performance itself has been and always will be besides the point. This will be interesting in general though, because I brought this topic up as a follow up to a group discussion of how awful all things Trump and 2017 have been, and only one other person was even slightly aware that this was a problematic pick and why. Most were quick to see the light, but whatever political, racial, social enlightenment many have gone through in the last year doesn't really work retroactively unless they actively think about it. I actually had someone keep repeating to me that this didn't hurt Janet's career at all and she wasn't blacklisted from anything. He found the notion actually laughable and kind of outrageous, and this is after he delivered a seriously good takedown of the Trump administration and all their racist bullshit. tl;dr: As usual, Justin is probably going to come out of this on top.

I actually don't like the idea of Janet agreeing to perform on this stage again at all. I don't see her doing it. It seems counteractive to a lot of the arguments people are making as to why this decision is disgraceful (white supremacy, racism, misogyny, sexism, etc). The SJWs could then turn on her.

Someone's smoking that good s**t if they think Janet's returning (as his guest) to the stage that ignited a smear campaign against her from MTV, NFL, the Grammy's and Justin Timberlake himself.
They tried to rub out her legacy; It's not happening, ever.

Pink would have been amazing! Bad timing with GaGa doing it last year. JT is a 'safe' and uninspired choice, but there will be backlash regardless of whether it's "Justified." NG was clearly staged, but they didn't count on the Tivo-effect back then. It unfortunate Janet was blackballed from radio, etc. while JT gave some weak non-apology at the Grammys and walked away unscathed. More than race, this was typical gender inequality that exists through the media outlets and entertainment industry. Someone PM'd me to remind me that Clear Channel BANNED Janet's music following the incident and that she was scheduled to perform with JT at the Grammys, but was BANNED - while he performed. So it's even worse than I remembered. Yeah, I have to say that any backlash is understandable.

NFL says Janet Jackson is not banned from Super Bowl amid Justin Timberlake backlash
As news broke Sunday night that Justin Timberlake will perform at the Super Bowl LII halftime show this February, a backlash to the booking erupted on social media.
Using the #JusticeForJanet hashtag, critics condemned the NFL for booking Timberlake, considering his role in the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show’s infamous “wardrobe malfunction” with Janet Jackson. In receiving an invitation to perform while Jackson appeared persona non grata to the NFL, posters suggested, Timberlake was enjoying “white male privilege.”
The NFL has now taken steps to defuse the tensions surrounding Timberlake’s booking. “There’s no ban” on a possible Jackson appearance, an NFL spokesperson wrote in a statement to EW. “We are not going to comment on any speculation regarding potential guests. There may be no guests.”
The statement continued: “Along with Pepsi, we’re excited to have Justin Timberlake. Like the elite NFL players who can run, catch, and block, Justin can do it all — sing, dance, act, and entertain. He’s the ultimate global superstar who we know will put on an entertaining and unifying show that will appeal to the massive worldwide audience.”
The spokesperson’s comment about the possibility of no guests has some credibility — in her halftime performance earlier this year, Lady Gaga didn’t perform with any other buzzy musicians. But cameos have generally been a defining feature of the production, from Bruno Mars and Beyoncé at Coldplay’s gig in 2016 to M.I.A., Nicki Minaj, and Cee Lo Green at Madonna’s performance in 2012.
Timberlake and Jackson performed together in 2004, alongside P. Diddy, Jessica Simpson, Nelly, and Kid Rock. Timberlake’s appearance preceded arguably the most fruitful phase of his career: Since 2004, he’s notched four No. 1 singles as a solo artist and appeared on numerous other hits.

People are really reading way too much into this. Janet Jackson is an icon, everyone (sane) knows this. Sadly, her career was on its way out regardless of the SB. Justin was still new and thriving and defeating the odds of going from boy band to headline star. There may have been some shadiness through out this, and maybe Justin was in the wrong, but it was over a decade ago. Janet is fine, everyone is over this. lol Justin has shown he is a giant headline act and continued to be a huge musical icon the last several years so he has deserved this in his career. Would I have liked to maybe see someone else? Sure. There are plenty of great names like P!nk for example. But for those acting like this is the end of the world are just foolish. I personally think there is a chance Janet could appear, and like I said several weeks ago in a post in this thread... as of right now, I think this would be a cool setlist. obviously not full song lengths, etc. And to bring Janet out for a quick re-do and have her do a little sample of Nasty would be fun lol. This would be my picks SEXYBACK WHAT GOES AROUND MIRRORS SUIT & TIE (Jay-Z) HOLY GRAIL (Jay-Z) EMPIRE STATE OF MIND (Jay-Z) ROCK YOUR BODY (JANET JACKSON) NASTY (JANET JACKSON INTERLUDE) CAN'T STOP THE FEELING! [FINALE]

[FINALE] Janet was on her way out ...yet she opened with her highest debuting album to date with over 600K+ with All For You. It was the 2nd biggest opening for a female EVER at the time. EVER. I had to bold that so you could give it a second glance to get the scope. A first single of the same name broke radio records by being added across the board on Urban, Rhythmic, and Pop Radio. FIRST/ ONLY ONE TO DO IT AT THE TIME. The song remained at the top of the Hot 100 for 7 weeks.

Hmm... the actual facts of what occurred actually shows that you're incorrect. Regardless of if she were on her way out or not, that does not negate the reaction and consequences faced by both parties.

This whole "bring back" Janet mess ya'll are trying to pull is honestly not needed. Justin has been popular for the past decade or so. Janet is without a doubt an icon, but they are NOT going to ask her to perform at the Superbowl in 2018 because she's not the draw she once was, and there's many artists more profitable to the NFL than her nowadays. The NFL has come out and said "Janet isn't banned." What else do you really need? I'm totally 100% pro JT being the performed (although I could've preferred others), but I would understand the whole "Justin doesn't deserve to perform" more than the whole "well, Janet needs to perform to make it better." That's not how it works,

I can see her being a "surprise guest"
Controversy and curiosity will keep people from channel surfing during the 12 minutes at halftime.
Also most viewers likely won't care one way or the other, since for most, the halftime show is not the main attraction.

I do think that people would tune in to see what happens on stage if Janet were to actually do it, but I do not see her doing it. And there is no reason for her to.
