Kind of like how THINKIN BOUT YOU did a track by track review of 2015, I decided I should do the same with 2016. But first; some context. 2016 was one that has earned it's infamy for being one of the worst years in pop music history. This is a year that rivals years like 2013, 2010, 2005, and 1989. So I decided to tackle this beast and share my thoughts on here, because why not. Before that I do have a ranking system, ranked from 0-5. 0-s**t1-Bad2-Meh3-Decent4-Good5-GreatWhen a song is ranked from 1-5 it adds to the overall total score that I'll give at the very end. But first, my #1 least favorite hit of 2016..... in the next post.

0-s**tAttachment Deleted100. Work From Home by Fifth Harmony ft. Ty Dolla $ignYE position: #16 What, were you expecting me to be obvious and put Me Too at the very bottom? As much as I hate Me Too with the overloaded, self-narcissistic narrative, it at least had some sort of melody and groove. This however has none! The beat is almost non-existent, with only annoyingly light plotting percussion, and some random synth that cuts in at random. Let's also mention the fact that this song tries, and fails to be sexy, it ends up being more creepy if anything. And none of it is helped by the awkward as Hell breathing in the chorus. And since this is 2016 Fifth Harmony, I might as well continue with the running gag that Camila Cabello cannot f**king sing! Even with all the vocal effects in the world, she still sucks. Everyone else is either monotone, or just weak and forgettable. And then we have the lyrics and oh boy are they a killer. I'm not gonna spend a lot of time on this, but I'll say this; I'd much rather have a healthy relationship that balances my work schedule and my sex life, I don't just wanna live on welfare all my life just to please my horny girlfriend. That's what this song is saying, it's saying you're much better off having great sex, then getting ahead in life and making money that you need to buy food, clothes, and other necessities. That is why I ranked it at the bottom, because it's intentions are selfish, and f**ked up, that they think pleasing women for sex is good, which is ironic considering this song was written BY 5 GUYS! Geez, people wanna talk about sexism and misogyny, this is it. Oh and Ty Dolla $ign is on this song, and he's not that good, so yeah.

But then again, this song is still just as s**tty as everyone says it is. Attachment Deleted99. Me Too by Meghan Meghans (Yes it's a joke, just go with it) YE position: #62. Yeah, this song is just as bad as everyone has said since it was released. The self-narcissistic tone and lyrics remind me of Matt's character from Eddsworld, the awful bass-line, the vocals are terrible, her attempts at Mariah Carey riffing in the bridge fails to flatter even the most die-hard Mariah stans, and the lyrics are just the most cringe-worthy of the entire year. "My life's a movie, Tom Cruise. So bless me, baby, achoo" Worst lyrics of 2016, hands down. And then there are the people who have defended this by saying it's a self-empowerment anthem. I've listened and defended better self-empowerment anthems than this, and honey, this is not one of those moments. The line in the chorus "If I was you, I'd wanna be me too" is not empowering, it's her saying that she is better than you, because you are not like her. She's saying everyone should be like her, and that you are not good enough to be your own. This isn't a self-empowerment anthem, it's a conformity anthem, telling people to be like Meghan Meghans. Well I've got news for you Meghan, no one wants to be some self-serving, narcissistic bitch who cares about themselves more than being who they are. I am so glad that this fell off quickly, what a terrible way for her career to die on. I hope to never hear from Meghan Meghans ever again. Also, apparently the bass in the verses sound eerily similar to that of the bass in the chorus for Turn Up The Night by Enrique Iglesias. Huh, who knew.

I never thought this was bottom 5 worthy before, but some of the lyrical choices proves that Chris Brown can never escape the grasp of s**tty R&B. Attachment Deleted98. Back To Sleep by Chris BrownYE Position: #89 That one line in the chorus "f**k you back to sleep girl" is probably the sole reason it is this so low, and I don't know why anyone would be surprised by that assumption. This song is just a sheer boring, bland and uninteresting R&B song that, for some ungodly reason peaked in the top 20. Chris Brown sounds like his usual, douchebaggy self, awful voice, and rapey lyrics, are just enough to push this song to my bottom 3. There is really nothing much here, it's just that one line that is just so rapey, it deserves this spot. God, this is 2016's version of Akon's #1 hit, I Wanna f**k You, boring enough to be forgettable, but the lyrics are too rapey to not stick out for you.

Do people actually like Post Malone? Because he always struck me as some white guy trying way too hard to sound cool and get in with the rap crowd. Why do I say that? Well... Attachment Deleted97. White Iverson by Post MaloneYE position: #65 I never got why this dude got popular, he just seems like some white guy version of all the other generic brag rap urban music that's been around for years now. And he somehow is even more boring, and in some ways worse. His voice is grating, his lyrics are generic brag rap, and the production choices for this song are BORING! I though most urban music had something, despite being utter crap, but this is just lifeless. Yeah, it has a sentient trap beat, but it feels so off with this dude's voice, he almost sounds off beat. I can't believe this was a top 20 hit, and this is the same year that gave Drake his first #1 hit as a soloist.

I feel like this seems like an unpopular opinion, but whatever, the point it I hate this song. Attachment Deleted96. Broccoli by D.R.A.M. ft. Lil YatchyYE position: #34 No seriously, why did we let this become a top 5 hit? For one, I hate the metaphor, broccoli is one of the most disgusting foods out there, so why in the world would some crackpot make an entire song based around it? Second this "happy beat" is nausea inducing, I like my fair share of happy music, but this is grating. And when you put it with these awful vocals from D.R.A.M and Lil Yatchy, there's no saving this. And my God these lyrics are vomit-inducing "I'm a dirty dog I did it sleazily" at least he's self aware of his actions, unlike others. But still this song is just awful for me, I hate the lyrics about broccoli, these vocals are annoying, and I hate this beat. NEXT!

This started the whole trend, now to finish this song once and for all. Attachment Deleted 95. Gold by KiiaraYE position: #52 This is what I call the start of the whole "chopped up vocal chorus" trend. And I hate it, I couldn't understand a word she was saying, it's like she was mumbling this through with random words. And then when I looked up what they meant, I wanted to forget. It's like some white trash female from the Great Lakes thinks she can beat men into a submissive, almost slave-like manner. And this production isn't helping much either, it's so minimalist it compromises nothing than a few snapping, a glossy synth, trap snares, and some sort of buzzing in the chorus. Her voice also sucks, did someone tell this woman that she has no ability to sing, and that the chopped up vocal chorus was a terrible idea. God, no wonder this girl will never have another hit, and it seems like the only other piece of relevancy is her being in that one Linkin Park song that no one liked. Still she'll never have anymore relevancy, and thank God for that.

Drake has been one of the most overexposed artists of the entire decade thus far. So I thought it was appropriate to review the worst song off of Views. And just a quick spoiler, it's not One Dance. Attachment Deleted94. Pop Style by Drake ft. Kanye West & Jay-Z (Yes I know what the real features are, just go with it) YE position: #82 This song is such a boring mess. There is almost nothing to this production, it tries to think it's dark and edgy, but it just ends up being another blank space in Drake's discography. Not to mention that everyone else is just the same, the vocals are so lowkey, that I can barely hear them, even with this slow, plotting and boring beat. At the very least Jay-Z is somewhat hyped... at least until it goes back to Kanye's verse. I don't even know what this song actually is about, to me it seems like some brag type s**t, with the line "All I want to do is pop style" which I don't even know what it means. But here's what I do know; this song is a boring monstrosity, the beat lacks in any substance, the vocals are boring as well, and this song was a terrible choice for a single, and it didn't even get a video!

Charlie Puth became unbearable in 2016. Even though his recent top 10 hit is good, that doesn't fix his 2016 s**t. Attachment Deleted93. One Call Away by Charlie PuthYE position: #43 This song is not only boring, it's also weak and generic as Hell. The production is limp and stale, the lyrics are your generic love song that would have come out of early 2000s R&B, and Charlie Puth's voice is significantly weak here. And that one line that always sticks out is that Superman line, which he is not at all. He is so weak, so skinny, and so boring that he couldn't save some girl even if he tried. This man could have done so much better than this, but no, he wasted everything after See You Again. Thank God Attention is still great, and I hope his next album is good, because Nine Track Mind was so boring and generic, I was about to write Charlie Puth off as a forgettable one hit wonder, only to be remembered for See You Again. And speaking of Charlie Puth...

Attachment Deleted92. We Don't Talk Anymore by Charlie Puth ft. Selena GomezYE position: #50 Went from one bad generic love song, to another one. And it's by the same guy, lovely ain't it? This could be extended to what One Call Away was, but this is slightly stronger because of it having two narratives. However, that would have been fine if the production wasn't so lazily boring and generic. Not only that but both Puth and Gomez lack any sort of real chemistry and personality. Hell, Charlie and Meghan have more chemistry and personality in Marvin f**king Gaye for God's sake, and that song was terrible, one of the worst of 2015. But here's the thing, at least it had something, it had a nice groove, and sure the lyrics are terrible, but I could see this as a nice slow dance. This however, is not. It lacks any good substance, the vocals are weak, and the generic sappy love song cliche died a decade ago. Get over each other and move the f**k on.

Let's go from one white guy to another. Attachment Deleted91. Treat You Better by Shawn MendesYE position: #28 Do I even need so say anything about this, I think the flaws are pretty obvious. The production is a sludgy mess of weak acoustic guitars, and loud, annoying percussion, the vocals are either too weak, or too loud. The most famous being when he literally screams in the chorus "BETTER THAN HE CAN" Or as me and many others like to joke around "BED OR DANNY CAN" because it's just so funny. This was one of the worst songs off of Illuminate, and that album was particularly bad album anyway. I once liked this song, but not anymore, this was so awful for Shawn, thank God he finally got something good by releasing There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back earlier this year. Oh I'm sorry I meant RE-ISSUED the album with this song on it.

Let's talk about Future for a minute... and how he f**king sucks. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted90. Wicked by Future 89. Low Life by Future ft. The Weeknd
YE position: #97 YE position: #30
Yeah, I placed both Future tracks back to back, but really, unless your a rap/urban poster are you really that surprised? And the thing is both of these songs have a few differences between them. Wicked is just Future mumbling through this, awful generic trap beat, and you can't even understand a word he says. Low Life is somewhat decent, although that's mostly because of The Weeknd, but under this dark yet boring production, it just fails to flatter me in the slightest. That and it's not like Future has anything to say that is interesting at all. It's all the same generic brag rap that got old years ago, who should I continue to like this s**t now. And the worst crime of all is turning The Weeknd from a good R&B artist, to a generic rapper. At least Six Feet Under was good, that's probably the only good thing I can say about these two collaborating. But other than that, no Future is still Future, pass.

I believe this is the first leftover hit from 2015, so it shouldn't be a surprise to see this so low. Attachment Deleted88. Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) by SilentoYE position: #88 (Lol, same spot) I'm not gonna spend too much time on this, I think everything about this has already been said. This is a terrible dance song that had no reason to be as popular as it did, Silento is a diet Soulja Boy who even outright stole some of his own moves, and the so called dance isn't even a good dance. The production is terrible dance club s**t that belongs in the trash bins from 2010 and 2013, not here. The only reason this wasn't in my bottom 10 was because it was more of a hit in 2015, and if it wasn't this could have been higher.

You know that 2016 is a bad year, when a cocaine anthem made the year end list. Attachment Deleted87. Cut It by O.T. Genasis ft. Young DolphYE position: #91 I remember that O.T. Genasis had the same type of cocaine anthem in 2015 called Coco. That one was just as bad if not worse, but this is still just as s**t. The song is so repetitive and boring, I can;t stand it at all. And none of it is helped by this guy's raspy voice, and Young Dolph's verse is just utter nothing. This is slow, plotting, and boring, and nothing is helping with the beat either, I swear I've heard this beat a billion times by now. Let's just leave this as one of those forgotten hits that somehow got popular, and leave them in the trash.

Why do people like this song? Attachment Deleted86. Really Really by Kevin GatesYE position: #92 No seriously I don't get the appeal. I can understand why 2 Phones has the appeal though, the production is fine, the verses are funny as Hell, and the chorus is actually pretty catchy. (Oops, spoilers) But this is just trash, like Kevin's voice is awful in this, the beat is an utter, sludge-fest, and the lyrics are just nothing, they're nothing to me. I can't believe this was Kevin's first major hit before 2 Phones, and what a s**tty start onto the charts it was.

When I heard Usher was releasing a new album in 2016, I was ecstatic. But when I first heard the lead off single, I was disappointed. Attachment Deleted85. No Limit by Usher ft. Young ThugYE position: #90 I like Usher, but this is his weakest lead off single since OMG back in 2010. And while that song was total garbage, this isn't actually all that bad in comparison. But it's still bad because all of Usher's personality is drained, and left with the shell of your most generic MC out right now. It has you generic trap beat, Young Thug with nothing interesting to say, and the chorus is repetitive and annoying. It's not catchy or fun, or what I expect from Usher. And this was his last ever top 40 hit so far. Such a shame for Usher's career to die on this song.

I thought Yo Gotti was gonna be a one-hit wonder with this song, but nope, the top 10 this week says otherwise. Attachment Deleted84. Down In The DM by Yo Gotti ft. Nicki MinajYE position: #69 This song sounds so old and dated, it's like it was released nearly 3 years ago. And yet this somehow was a hit. I feel the only reason was just because of name recognition from Nicki Minaj and nothing else. But this is so boring, with your standard trap beat, awful vocals from Yo Gotti himself, and lyrics that I've heard too many times before. I believe Down In The DM is supposed to mean sex, or some sort of dance, and if it's either I don't know, want to know, or care to know. And it seems we're not done with Yo Gotti in the mainstream just yet though.

I don't like country, and I don't like songs that are outright boring. But it's rare for a song to mix both of those things and end up in my bottom 20. Attachment Deleted83. Die A Happy Man by Thomas RhettYE position: #64 Not only is this a boring country song, but this song sounds like a blatant Ed Sheeran rip-off. And it somehow was a hit, most likely due to the fact it sounds like Ed Sheeran, and people somehow like Ed Sheeran rip-offs like this. And my God is this boring, and plotting. It's not the worst country song, or the worst under Thomas Rhett, but this happened to be his most successful song, peaking at #21. Of all the country songs in 2016, this had to be a hit, and I want to know why though.

Let's talk about a pop song for once, and how the f**k this song went to #3 on the Hot 100. Attachment Deleted 82. This Is What You Came For by Calvin Harris ft. RihannaYE position: #17 I like both of these artists, and when they work together they've released some pretty great pop/EDM songs before. We Found Love is one of my favorite Rihanna songs of the decade tbh. But this is just trash, and it shows how EDM has been in declining quality since 2011-2014. This is just an utter mess, I cannot stand the fact that people ate this up, because it's so generic, and terrible. The drop is so weak, fake and predictable, the writing is generic, and Rihanna's voice is terrible here. The chorus is just a repetitive block of noise, hammering you all the time, and none of it is helped by Rihanna's 'Youuuuuuuuuuuuuu's" in the chorus. It's so repetitive, so annoying that it had to be in the bottom 20. And those vocal effects don't help much either. Ugh, I'm so sick of this song.

Let's talk about Drake for a minute. Because why would I not talk about one of the most overexposed artists of the entire decade. Attachment Deleted 81. Controlla by DrakeYE position: #41 You all were expecting One Dance weren't you? Ha, funny story, but I'll get to that later down the road, let's tackle this first though. First, this is boring sludge, almost all of Drake's songs on Views is a chore and a half to sit though without wanting to blow your brains out. Seriously, this is some of the most boring rap music of 2016, I don't think anything can top this. I talked about Pop Style early on, and how boring that song was, but this is... different. And to make it worse, Drake seems to have been following internet trends and memes and put an airhorn in his song. I'm not kidding, he put a f**king airhorn in this song. And you wanna know what's more depressing, this was a top 20 hit. We let a song with A f**king AIRHORN INTO THE TOP 20, WHY?!?!?!

Sad to see that Future himself never got a #1 hit, and yet some wannabe rip-off beat him to it in 2016. But then again it's not like his rip-off is any better. Attachment Deleted80. Panda by DesiignerYE position: #6 I'll just say this right off the bat; the overexposure to this song that I got in high school nearly pushed this song into my bottom 10 at one point. But beside that, this song is a blatant Future rip-off and I never thought that this would be the song to dethrone Work at the time. I swear, I though 7 Years would be the song to get to #1, not this s**tty rip-off. But then again, I didn't know much about the charts in early-mid 2016. But my God I cannot stand this song, mostly because of the fact that is is severely Future vein. The whoops are annoying, the production is awful, and this guy just cannot f**king sing at all in here. You might be wonder, "What about Tiimmy Turner, surely you hate that song?" Well to be honest, that song is a step up, and better than Panda, but that's all that I'll be spoiling you for. But as for this mess, this is just a fluke #1 in my eyes, I'd rather have had Work at #1, if only to block this from getting there.

Let's talk about Florida Georgia Line for a minute. Remember when they had that massive country hit in 2013 called Cruise that everyone hated. Well last year they released a song that, while not as bad, was still pretty bad. Attachment Deleted79. H.O.L.Y. by Florida Georgia LineYE position: #49 This isn't as outright obnoxious and annoying, as it mostly stayed in the niche of country, but it still never deserved to be a hit regardless. My main problem with this song isn't that it's boring country music, my problem is that the acronym is silly, stupid and cringy as f**k. It means High On Loving You, which is stupid to me, because why would you compare your love to someone as being high off of a drug? And then we have the duo themselves, who aren't all that appealing, or relatable at all with their bro-country niche. Once again, country proving itself in the worst of ways why it will never be accepted outside of the U.S, because artists like these two are ruining it. Can we please have Carrie Underwood or Miranda Lambert instead?

Drake. Oh and also another one. Attachment Deleted78. For Free by DJ Khaled ft. DrakeYE position: #59 For one of the first songs off of Major Key, this seemed like a weak choice for a single. Holy Key was a much better song, and not just because of Kendrick Lamar though, okay maybe a little bit of Kendrick. But did we really need ANOTHER Drake track on the Hot 100 Khaled? This is just boring sludge, with nothing interesting here. Drake sounds bored as usual, the beat is lagging behind, and DJ Khaled is just become nothing more than a living meme at this point in his career. And yet this wasn't even the peak of Khaled's career yet, but it most certainly felt like one for Drake, as More Life wasn't nearly as successful as Views was. You f**ked up Drake, you royally f**ked up.

Dangerous Woman was a pretty decent album in my opinion for Ariana Grande. I liked pretty much all of the singles at that point. Well, all except for one. Attachment Deleted77. Side To Side by Ariana Grande ft. Nicki MinajYE position: #77 (Lol same position) I feel pretty alone in hating this song, because I really cannot stand how this was more successful than the first two singles. Had a much higher peak (In the top 5 I think) and is most likely gonna be on the year end list for this year as well. For one this production is boring, it's just the down tempo, tropical reggae influenced tracks that kept coming out in 2016. And did we seriously need the most petite white girl to make a reggae song at all, especially when we've had plenty of them done much better than this? I get that she's trying to go for the whole, "I'm an adult I can be sexy act" but I cannot buy it from Ariana at all. And then you have the chorus which, just why? "And bo-o-o-o-o-o-o-oy" Can this girl try to enunciate at least. And then you've got Nicki who sounds bored as Hell, and tries to rhyme bicycle with tricycle and icicle, which is not clever, lazily written, and just sheer random. How the Hell did this song peak at #4 on the Hot 100 for God's sake? Were people so brainwashed by Cheap Thrills, One Dance and Closer they thought we should have another reggae hit?

1-BadTory Lanez. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted76. Say It by Troy Lanez 75. Luv by Tory LanezYE position: #74 YE position: #70 The main reason I put these in the bad tier, is mostly because I don't have all that much to say about them. They're mostly just boring songs that I don't remember or care much about, with un-interesting lyrics, boring production, and sleep-inducingly bad vocals. Just not much to say about this, I think the songs speak for themselves. Total Score: 2/500

I like Disney movies, who doesn't like Disney? But when a person decides to take characters from a very famous Disney movie and place them in their song, they have to wow me for me to like it. Unfortunately, this person didn't do the job right at all. Attachment Deleted74. Lost Boy by Ruth B.YE position: #76 This is a total snooze fest, I can't believe it actually charted. It's mostly in the bad tier, because of just hoe UTTERLY BORING IT IS!! I don't want to here some boring sob story on my pop station, even if it does have some interesting lyrics. If you're gonna take characters and scenes from Peter Pan, make it interesting. And what the f**k does she mean when she says "I am a lost boy from Neverland" does anyone know what that means? Either way, this is just a boring song, nothing more nothing less. 3/500
