The original is on YouTube but I don't want anyone ranking it based on that version of the song, only on the Garth version Do you maybe know where can I listen to Garth version? I can't find any of his music on deezer. Amazon unless his deal ended with them.

On a similar note, will we need to rank the Shania and Bryan White version of FTMO or either one? I despise the duet but love the solo. Wasn't the duet with Bryan White the one that charted on country? Yes

Wasn't the duet with Bryan White the one that charted on country? Yes the duet version charted on Country radio but the solo version was played on Country radio for a bit, especially more near the end of its chart run. At least that is what I remember. If everyone feels the duet version is the only one that matters for this then I am fine making it just that version that you vote on. I want to have specific versions of each song that you are voting on so I guess making that definite would work best.

The Warren Brothers had a hit song? I remember "Change" was played on CMT a lot in the mid-2000s and had assumed they were some unknown band that never had any success since "Change" didn't do anything on radio.

I remember "Change" was played on CMT a lot in the mid-2000s and had assumed they were some unknown band that never had any success since "Change" didn't do anything on radio. Between 1998 and 2003 they had a handful of singles that mostly just peaked in the 20s and 30s on the charts. They only had one song reach the Top 20, which peaked at #17, and another that came close (a duet w/ Sara Evans -- which by nature of that is probably their most remembered single, though that still isn't saying much, lol).

The Warren Brothers' 3 albums were really good, really happy they're going to be included here!
I wonder if they'll ever get a 4th album out there? They're still writing at least!

I would personally love a 4th album. Move On and Well Deserved Obscurity are both incredible albums, with their version of "Between the River and Me" being the definitive version of that song. Wish they had broken through because they were great. "Guilty" for anyone who doesn't know was their first radio single

Oh man, I'm really hoping George's "Today My World Slipped Away" ends up making an appearance soon... I'm starting to get nervous that it will have been devoured by the gap of being released too late in '97 to make the year-end list, but peaking too early to make the 1998 list...
Edit: Ugh, same deal with Reba's "What If It's You"!

If there are any other songs that people can think of that hasn't shown up let me know and I'll see if I can get them added

I know it debuted on Billboard the first week of September '97. "Round About Way" followed that and it was released the first week of January 1998. edit: and same would go for "What If It's You" it peaked in 1997 not 1998 :)) second edit: well I see that neither of those songs were in the 1997 Country Rankdown lol and they certainly deserve to be included in one of these

Here are the songs: Bad Day To Let You Go - Bryan White Did I Shave My Legs For This? - Deana Carter Loosen Up My Strings - Clint Black One Small Miracle - Bryan White She's Got That Look in Her Eyes - Alabama Wonderful Tonight - David Kersh You Walked In - Lonestar Wine Into Water - T. Graham Brown Now I do not want to add 10 more songs as 110 is a bit much, 102 could work but I'd prefer staying at 100 so what I am going to do is if any of these songs are wanted in then please let me know here. I could knock out a couple Garth Brooks songs since hearing those are going to be difficult. I do think a couple of the above songs could easily not be included as I think the biggest hit of them all was Clint Black's "Loosen Up My Strings" not that being a hit is a requirement of being in this but it does help. For now I am only adding the George Strait and Reba songs and going from there.

I'd prefer to see the Garth Brooks songs remain in the rankdown personally. I admit I was a bit confused when I saw "Love of My Life" show up in the '98 rankdown as I've always associated it more with '97, but if it wasn't included then it certainly should be in this one.

I've been meaning to ask this: are these songs based on a year-end chart or are they simply a mixed bag of songs that were out in 1998? I'm also waiting to see a particular song or two before the playlist goes up, but I won't dish any details about what they are.

"Did I Shave My Legs For This?" is iconic and better than Garth Brooks' whole career. :'(

I'm also waiting to see a particular song or two before the playlist goes up, but I won't dish any details about what they are. I've mentioned this before but I'll delve into it a little further on how I came about the list of songs included here. First I took Billboard's Top 75 year-end chart and added those songs and then looked further into songs that came out in 1998 that had some success or even some gems that I knew from that year and once I had a list of way too many songs I had to eliminate songs. First thing I did was eliminate most songs that were a part of the 1997 rankdown minus a couple songs that were in the Top 30 songs on Billboard's Top 75 of that year. This is how "Just To See You Smile", "Love Of My Life" and (Spoiler) "A Broken Wing" are all included in this years as well. I did decide to include the duet version of "Love Of My Life" instead of the radio version in order to have it be a little different. Plus "Love Of My Life" hit #1 in 1998 not 1997. I also made my list the same way for 1999 and any songs that were on there I removed from this years so that way we wouldn't have any songs come up again in 1999 that were included in this one. That helped me eliminate quite a few and then I narrowed down a few additional songs and I believe I may have eliminated "You Walked In" and "Did I Shave My Legs For This" during that time. "Today My World Slipped Away" might have also been cause I thought I had that one down but when it was mentioned I checked and it wasn't there so for the fact that it peaked in 1997 I probably did remove it. For some reason I never remembered "Loosen Up My Strings" so I think I removed that one early on as well. My list isn't perfect for sure and I do apologize for some of the missing songs. Songs that I know are on the 1999 list that are not here include: "Let Me Let Go" - Faith Hill "Someone I Used To Know" - Collin Raye "You're Easy On The Eyes" - Terri Clark "Wrong Again" - Martina McBride there are others too but those are the ones I can remember without looking it up. Hope this helps everyone a little

I have to say I don't recall "Love of My Life" ever being a duet or even hearing a version of that on the radio. I assumed we were ranking it on the version that was played at radio? edit: Did some research and there was a duet version on the B-side of the original; learn something new every day lol. I still have never heard this version.

The discussion I have breathed into this thread!!! OMG Lol Honestly, the George and Reba songs are the only ones that seem mandatory to me, since both artists are iconic as heck, and this was their golden period. It would be kinda like not including Carrie Underwood's "Two Black Cadillacs" when I get around to hosting the 2012 or 2013 rankdown just because it was released kinda between those years. The thought is laughable, for sure. I think the Deana Carter song also has a pretty big following around here. But the rest of that list? Of course we can't make everybody happy, but that is my take on the matter

I'm looking over songs from 1998 and I just seen Lisa Brokop's singles. None were hits in the U.S. though so I don't think they need to be included. Just everybody go listen to them lol

I'm debating doing this. I will say I do hope "That's Why I'm Here" makes it at least into the Top 20. I know it's Kenny Chesney but it's an amazing song regardless.

I would love to see this song do well because it is easily one of my favorite songs ever, it brings me back to 1998 too with some good memories (despite what the song itself is about lol). Anyways, I'm resolving the additional songs and we are gonna have 104 songs. It should be easy to figure out what the last 2 are but I'm gonna leave it a secret officially until I reveal them! There are 14 more songs to reveal. I will reveal 5 more some point tomorrow afternoon but then I will be out of town for a few days and will not be able to post until Sunday night. Therefore Monday night I will have the final reveals and the Spotify playlist
