Welcome to the National rankdown!
Who are the National?
From Wikipedia:
The National is an American indie rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio, formed in 1999. The band consists of Matt Berninger (vocals), Aaron Dessner (guitar, keyboards), Bryce Dessner (guitar), Scott Devendorf (bass) and Bryan Devendorf (drums).
Founded by Berninger, Aaron Dessner, and Scott and Bryan Devendorf, The National released their self-titled debut album, The National (2001), on Brassland Records, an independent record label founded by Dessner and his twin brother, Bryce Dessner. Bryce, who had assisted in recording the album, soon joined the band, participating as a full member in the recording of its follow-up, Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers (2003).
Leaving behind their day jobs, the National signed with Beggars Banquet Records and released their third studio album, Alligator (2005), to widespread critical acclaim. The band's fourth and fifth studio albums, Boxer (2007) and High Violet (2010), increased their exposure significantly. In 2013, the band released its sixth studio album, Trouble Will Find Me, which was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. In 2017 the band released the album Sleep Well Beast.

So, why should you listen to the National???
1) They've received lots of critical acclaim. For instance, their average Metacritic score is 83, and four of the band's albums were included on NME's 2013 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
2) In spite of all the acclaim they received, they're pretty underrated. None of their albums have been certified by the RIAA, and they didn't have a charting radio single until this year.
3) They've worked on songs in some movies you may have watched before. For instance, their song "Lean" was in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and "Think You Can Wait" was featured in Win Win.
4) They've been a part of other projects as well. Matt Berninger formed the duo EL VY with Brent Knopf of the bands Ramona Falls and Menomena, and released an album under that project in 2015. Bryce Dessner earlier this year released a collaborative album with Sufjan Stevens, James McAlister and Nico Muhly, and scored the soundtrack for The Revenant.
5) They're one of my favorite bands and I hope to introduce you guys to them and know their music better.
.... and more.
Here's the list of songs to rank. It includes their most popular tracks, as well as some album cuts and some of my personal favorites. There are less songs from their first two albums because they're less-known and less acclaimed; they're more well-known for their work from Alligator onwards.
The breakdown of songs is as follows:
1 song from The National
3 songs from Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers
1 song from Cherry Tree EP
8 songs from Alligator
9 songs from Boxer
10 songs from High Violet
2 songs from Think You Can Wait / Exile Vilify EP
8 songs from Trouble Will Find Me
8 songs from Sleep Well Beast

Preference revealer
The due date for this is November 7, 2017, Tuesday, 10PM Eastern Time. That's 4 weeks to listen to the songs, and by then, we should be done with both the worst rock songs of 2017 and my rock rankdowns. The playlist is only about 3 and a half hours, which is about 3 hours less than the playlists for the yearly alternative/active rankdowns. That's more than enough time for you to listen to the playlist, so THERE WILL BE NO EXTENSIONS unless I change my mind. If you want to submit a top 10 list for songs not on this rankdown, feel free to do so as well. You may also wish to include where you'd rank those songs on your main list. (just list where it will be on between what songs)
EDIT: New deadline is November 21, 2017
