I can't help but imagine it doesn't take much for a song to chart on Canada's Airplay.

It has grown on me but after Witness, his tracks for P!nk, “Ready For It,” and this, I can’t help but wonder if Max Martin lost his ability to craft a strong chorus. As much of a Max Martin stan as I am, I think he’s certainly losing his magic touch tbh. Granted he’s 40 something and people naturally fall out of touch when they’re older.

His output this year has been tragic in comparison to his peak, but just last year he did most of Ariana's (terrific, underrated) second album, plus Just Like Fire and Can't Stop the Feeling which were generic but enjoyable.

Eh. His Ariana Grande outputs are certainly decent (you’re referring to her third album btw), and I do enjoy a few of them, but it’s not Since U Been Gone/Baby One More Time/I Want it That Way/Teenage Dream level of epic pop. Just like Fire and Can’t Stop the Feeling are lowkey the worst songs of 2016. Lol. This is def the beginning of the end for him though. Chained, Bon Appetit, those other awful Witness album tracks he did, Ready for It, and now this are all.. well... bad for lack of a better word. They all sound ten years dated, and not in a good nostalgic way.

I feel like Jack Antonoff is slowly taking Max Martins place as the most sought after pop songwriter/producer. Him or Julia Michaels.

I really like this song a lot..... come on.... haven't you ever been at a club your big crush is there and you're too scared to go talk to them? I don't think this would be the song going through my head in that scenario. Brandy did it better on Sittin' Up In My Room. Go listen to that classic about being extremely coy around your crush. "Gorgeous" wouldn't be going through my head in a club? And neither would that Brandy song.... the clubs I go to play a little uptempo songs :)

Top 50 on Pop:-- 50 TAYLOR SWIFT Gorgeous 351 0 351 3.355 Do we move this too or? Personally, I think you should move it, since it's now top 50. This is also #34 on Hot AC (Canada).

Why not? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I mean, I don't see any problem to do that. Anyway, just to emphasize, "Gorgeous" isn't the next single off reputation (yet) and it's "...Ready for It?" instead. The main reason that this thread was moved here is because it's inside the Top 50 in the CHR/Pop format.

I do think Jack Antonoff and Julia are doing way better recently.

This is what they get for somehow waiting to push RFI until now. Granted that one seems like a much safer single and is better then this (though it's still not a very good song), but this single's release was the perfect time to push a new second single and yet they pushed something that had already been out for a month and a half? What the actual fuck is her team doing?!

Actually it seems they wanted to push Gorgeous, but besides the group of stans that saw it as the best thing since sliced bread, most other people felt disappointed. So instead of continuing to push it (like in Spotify), the label reacted and went full force with RFI as it was a safer bet. In any case, yes, this is messy. Especially sensing that the label thought this bland shit was going to be the perfect second single

This is included in the latest HitDisc compilation, likely as a FYC to Pop radio programmers.

Unless they plan to release a ton of music videos from this album.

Do they think they're gonna get away with radio playing two songs at the same time? Because that just worked out so swimmingly for LWYMMD/RFI. :sip2:
Either that or they're trying to replicate Justin's 'Purpose' era which had three #1 hits in like half a year. Either way, if you have to go to these lengths to make it happen? It ain't gonna happen.

Probably why I’ve been so meh about pop music over the past few years

I want Ryan Tedder to dominate again.
