I'm obsessed with the Taylor verse for some reason. I still prefer "Don't Blame Me" by miles (and hope it gets single treatment), but I see this becoming one of my favourites. What a surprise, lmao. Hope it does well and serves some longevity and she can release follow-ups. I like her verse too, theres just something that works, she just rides the beat like ed does!

^She sounds really ‘glad’ to be singing it almost. I love her part too. It is very idk passionate? It PUMPS me up.

I love the verse too. I'm literally waiting for it to come. It's probably the beginning of it "I hit you like bang" and the "And I bury hatchets blah blah". I love these two.
I was actually more excited for the Future feature (lol this sounds funny) than I was for Ed's because I was expecting a hot urban track like the "Bad Blood" remix. Turns out, Future didn't really bring anything to the song and you could just remove it without changing anything. But yay, bring those urban fans!

Especiall these lines: "And I bury hatchets, but I keep maps of where I put 'em" and "And I can't let you go, your hand prints on my soul It's like your eyes are liquor, it's like your body is gold"

Future rode the fuq outta the beat. He got some good background vocals.

Ed sounds so out of place in this. Even his limited ad libs at the end make him sound like he was added last minute. My favourite part of this is the second “big reputation” part, I love Taylor’s ad libs in it

Taylor’s last verse at the end repeats Edwin’s “reputation proceeds me.” His verse is the only one that really sounds like a verse. It’s the right single and it will smash on radio but I wouldn’t get carried away with “Dark Horse” comparisons. It’s good but not that good.

If they send this to streaming outlets as well, I see it being this era's second multi-week #1.

This is so freaking catchy and addicting. Total smash.
I'm sure callouts will be released soon and it'll be a little polarizing and the usual people will make the usual statements.

Here's my thing about this forum and Callouts.
Callouts, by design, always seem to favor the most bland, universal thing. Anytime a song is risky with its theme, or message -- and it can LITERALLY be as simple as "a bit too sexy for the soccer moms", it ALWAYS impacts the callouts a little bit. Like, this song has a rap, and isn't some universal sweet love song, so I'm sure the callouts may not be utterly fantastic.
And I just feel like this forum should know that already. There's just too much weight put on them.
That said, I'm not an expert on the minutiae of how callouts are internalized at a specific radio station, so maybe I'm wrong. But it's never seemed to be too much of a literal correlation.

(As I understand it) the purpose of Callout scores is for stations to gauge interest in what their audience (wine moms) wants to hear. Low scores will usually not bode well for a song’s run as this impacts listeners which cuts into ad revenue, which is a station’s bottom line. This assumes the station isn’t receiving compensation for playing the song from the artist or label, at which point the callout scores stop mattering because they’re still turning a profit—or at least receiving goods to keep audiences interested in spite of forcing a song down their throat. So yes, typically there is a correlation between callouts and a song’s radio performance.
The “if it gets bad scores, the public just doesn’t get it” line of thinking is like ridiculously super flawed though but I’m not gonna touch that one.

I don't think "if it gets bad scores, the public doesn't get it" was a point I was trying to make, my bad if that's how it came across; not sure if you were referring to what I said or a general thought that comes up re: callouts.

I wonder how this will do when released on iTunes. Will it fly to #1 like how all those repressed singles in the mid 2000s that got airplay before being released to buy did? Released last night at midnight - currently #35

There's just too much weight put on them. That said, I'm not an expert on the minutiae of how callouts are internalized at a specific radio station, so maybe I'm wrong. But it's never seemed to be too much of a literal correlation. Back when I used to run around the industry the way it was explained to me was this: radio makes money from selling ads, and those ad prices are based on how many listeners the station has in their target demographic. Radio listeners are notorious for changing stations is they don't like a song. That hurts the bottom line. Stations try to poll their target demo audiences to figure out if a song is likely to make a lot of people change the station. This is why songs with relatively high scores on the "hate it" meter on callout (as well as the station's internally-generated audience feedback) tend to have shorter shelf lives. Because PDs are balancing these needs with label relationships, industry politics, etc. sometimes a song a lot of listeners hate will get a longer chance to win people over. But generally, if PDs think a lot of people will change the station if a song gets played it won't last very long. This tends matter more than how a song is selling. Selling tells you a lot of people like it but it doesn't tell you if a station's particular target demo also has a lot of listeners who hate it. This is why the top of ITunes doesn't always match the top of the airplay charts. So yes, callout favors the least offensive songs by design. That makes it fair game for discussion here. ETA: I should add that just because I was told that, doesn't mean it was correct - since I never worked in radio I don't know for sure! I suspect there are many posters around here who know if this is correct.

Aren't call outs only done for songs that have been on the airplay charts for 6 weeks or more?

It's based on familiarity I think, songs only show up when they have at least a 60% familiarity rating.

This song is a damn smash. There's something for everyone, from the cool kids (Future) to the Becky's (Ed), to the ones that fall in between cool and Becky status (Taylor),

Callout definitely favors bland songs because they have to be universal enough for soccer moms to like them. However, it isn't always easy to categorize and I am surprised by some songs doing well that don't seem soccer-mom ish and some that don't do well that seem right up that alley.
However, I do not think this one will be nearly as polarizing as LWYMMD. Like, I can already see my 35-45 mom friends singing the lyrics at least to the main part of it lol.
