What Curl of the Burl is their worst single Show Yourself says hello. Show Yourself kicks ass! Are you just saying that cause it's their biggest hit? Surprised that 10 Years made top 20 with So Long Goodbye. Division is my favorite album by them but least favorite set of singles.

12. Oblivion - Mastodon (N/A) Sorry I didn't enjoy this. it was not a very melodic piece of music at all. Excuse me?You don't like the song (or Mastodon, really), you do you. But "Oblivion" is one of the most melodious and easiest to digest songs they have ever made. That's not debatable.

Good top 10, Don't really mind which song will win but I'm hoping Sex On Fire won't take it. And Red, please don't tell me you ranked Rise Against bottom 10 on an active rankdown : p

This is Rise Against’s last song on an Active rankdown, thank God. They never charted before this.

Maybe he should listen to The Wolf is Loose Or "Blood and Thunder". Or "Spectrelight". Or anything from their first album.

It's top ten day! As with the 2009 Alt rankdown, let's do some stats for the 2009 Active RD top ten. If any of these statistics are wrong, you know the drill: Make sure to let me know.
- This is the first ever top ten in a year-end rock chart rankdown for just two bands: Metallica and, surprisingly, Pearl Jam. Something tells me this won't be PJ's only top ten appearance, but we'll see. - Shinedown are making their second straight Active top ten appearance, having been the first one out last year with "The Crow & The Butterfly". - Slipknot are also making their second straight Active top ten appearance, having finished 8th last year with "Snuff". - Kings of Leon are making their third top ten appearance, and they are doing the double with "Sex on Fire" after that song finished 2nd in the Alt RD for this year. - Linkin Park are also making their third top ten appearance, and they are also doing the double with "New Divide". That song finished 7th and was also the lowest standard deviation in the 2009 Alt RD. - Another band doing the double is The Offspring, as "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" finished 6th in the 2009 Alt RD. That's three songs that have made both top tens. Did any of the three doubles take the #1 spot? - Also doing the double, but a different kind of double: "Check My Brain" is in the Active top ten for the second year in a row. This is the seventh total appearance for AIC, including two appearances in the 2010 Active top ten and three appearances in the 2013 Active top ten. "Your Decision" remains the only AIC song to finish top ten in a Alt rankdown. - One song that isn't doing the double, but a band that is no stranger to year-end rock chart rankdown top tens, is Chevelle. This is Chevelle's seventh total appearance in the top ten, all in Active rankdowns. This includes their shocking victory in the 2016 Active rankdown with "Joyride". - Rise Against are back, surprise! This is their seventh total appearance, three of which coming from one song, "Savior", which, of course, won both 2010 rankdowns.

Show Yourself says hello. Show Yourself kicks ass! Are you just saying that cause it's their biggest hit? I'm saying that because it's the least interesting song I've heard from them. It's not a bad song per se (it did quite well on my chart actually) but for a Mastodon song, I expected better.

It's not a bad song per se (it did quite well on my chart actually) but for a Mastodon song, I expected better. That's kind of how I feel exactly about Curl of the Burl (Dry Bone Valley blows it out the water). I just really like the driving force of Show Yourself. It has that 'jump-into-the-groove' feel that Swerve City had.

Hello, friends. Let's chase the top ten rainbow.
#10 was just seven points ahead of "A Looking in View". It's also two points behind #9. Only one person didn't rank this song in their top 40, with seven people putting this song in their top 25, and one person not just putting this in their top ten, but going the extra mile by putting this top five. The person who did rank this low already kind of hinted at the song that he was ranking low, so...you can blame him for this (kind of) Alt crossover not having one of the lowest standard deviations again.

put a little fixing on it It's crazy to me that it has taken this long for Pearl Jam to have a top ten. It shouldn't be the last, but still!
Also, as it turns out, I sort of miscalculated PJ's standard deviation and average rank initially. This song, not Godsmack's "Whiskey Hangover", has the tenth-lowest standard deviation. Okay then!10

damn peacebone deleted his comment otherwise I would have quoted him and asked him how happy he was about this.
THIS is Pearl Jam's first Top 10? on an ACTIVE rankdown? I guess just because the competition is weaker.

#9 is another Alt crossover, and this one has a familiar lowest ranking. Everyone else, as with "The Fixer", ranked this song in their top 40, with seven people ranking this song in their top 25, and one person going the extra mile and putting this in their top ten. The reason it wound up being higher than "The Fixer" is that it just seemed like some rankings were just slightly higher than others. As you'd expect with a two point gap and a similar trajectory, there's not a lot separating the two songs. One thing this song does have going for it, though, is its standard deviation, the third-lowest in the entire rankdown.

#8 is the last song to miss out on the 1,000 point milestone. Two things, in particular, are noteworthy about this song. The first are its three lowest rankings, all bottom 50 rankings, with one being close to a bottom 20 ranking. The other noteworthy thing: This song's top 25 rankings. Eight people ranked this song in their top 25, all of them being top 15 rankings, seven of those rankings are top ten rankings, six of those rankings are top five rankings, and one is one of our last #1 losses. And yet, because nobody ranked this song bottom ten, this song doesn't have one of the ten highest standard deviations. Go figure.

The top seven are all within 100 points of each other, so, in other words, less than one whole ranking separated these top seven songs from one another, and things are really razor thin at certain points over the next seven reveals...but not #7, which wound up finishing nearly thirty points ahead of "Check My Brain"...but was still double digit points behind #6. This song has two rankings under the top 50, but they're not particularly low rankings, either. Every other ranking for this song was a top 40 ranking, with nine of those rankings being top 25 rankings, four of those being top ten rankings, and two of those being top five rankings. This might be a spoiler, but I'll say it anyway: This is the performance I was happiest about.

s**t I think this is my #3 Definitely the one song in the top 10 that I was happiest to see in here as well. I was thinking that this song would be lucky to finish top 20, certainly below their other song in this rankdown...boy, was I glad to be proven wrong. One of my year-end #1s making it all the way to the top ten...that's pretty damn cool.

Let's just get this out of the way right now: #6 is not where my #93 can be found. In fact, the one person that ranked this song below the top 50 barely ranked it below the top 50. Eight posters ranked this in their top 25, five posters ranked this in their top ten, and three posters ranked this song in their top five. In fact, the only reason this song DIDN'T make the top five is that, while it did get support, it didn't get ENOUGH top-level support to sneak its way into the top five. It wasn't that far off, though...

Before I started this thread, there were two songs that I thought, "Okay, one of these two songs will probably be this rankdown's #1." The other will be seen later in the top five, but I genuinely thought this would have a real shot to win this rankdown. Granted, it wasn't THAT far off, but I'm even a little amazed that this didn't go top five.
Also, hi, ninth-lowest standard deviation!6
