REPUTATION : A VERY EARLY READFriday, November 10, 2017 Based on the limited info available today, we believe Taylor Swift’s reputation (Big Machine/BMLG) will land somewhere in the range of 1.3-1.5m on next week’s chart, almost certainly besting her previous album, 2014’s 1989, by at least 100k. This will be Tay’s fourth album in a row to debut with more than 1 million in first week sales, with each of those albums selling more than the one before. Of course, these very preliminary reads precede her Saturday Night Live appearance and a possible tour announcement—and whatever other moves she may have in store for D2C, TV, radio, etc. Stay tuned for one-day projections.

Sales are at all-time low but Tay continues to increase her first week numbers for the 4th time in a row. SHE NEVER LOSES!

Taylor and Adele are the only artists keeping records sales alive, labels and music stores must love them.

I know sales were way better in '08 than now, but it still baffles me Taylor was able to almost sell 600k first week with Fearless. Like that album didn't even have a big single until Love Story like 3 months after release. Also big ups on going from 40,000 first week to 1.5 million first week. That's a damn good incline.

800k in an hour -> 1.5m in a week
Something doesn't add up
Amazing numbers, of course.

Adele doesn't have a 4 consecutive "million-opener" streak like Taylor.
Taylor's consistency over the better part of a decade is astonishing.

Her debut album had sold over three million copies and had four #1 singles on the Country chart by the time Fearless released. It was a very anticipated follow up.

It's not very surprising though to see her hit a million when she does thinks like the album-only stuff on iTunes. She didn't need to goose the other albums to get there.

Her consistency makes her the biggest star in the US, not Adele.

Right but I never denied Adele's huge sales. Call me when any artist other than Adele gets a diamond-selling album then... Receipts??? Most diamond albums are from 1980-2000. Am I supposed to think Taylor's sales are bad because she still hasn't a diamond album when her biggest album yet came 3 years ago? lol Anyway couldn't care less about what you're trying to do here and I don't want negativity around me right when Taylor released her new album.

Impressed by these numbers, but I'm sure part of it has to do with that it's not on Spotify until next week. We'll have to wait a week for the inevitable album bomb on the hot 100, but in the meantime I'm sure she's happy that she's running away with the biggest album of the year.

Seriously? Who the hell cares who is bigger? Why does it have to be her vs her all the time. They are both insanely successful and have their own lanes. I am sure neither are crying over the other doing a or b or c.

It's says a lot about our society that there's the compelling need to pit and trash two female artists against each other. Both Adele and Taylor are singer-songwriters who pretty much set the direction of their music and have proven to be incredibly successful on their own terms. And despite their success, they remain unique. I hope Taylor hits 1.5MM and I hope Adele's voice heals soon so we can get new music.
