57. If I Had YouTotal Points: 413 Average Rank: 45.8888889 Standard Deviation: 10.12971 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 1 Cody Wants Out... - 29 mamasaid - 37 tim - 39 castleoblivion26 - 43 bboat11 - 45 LBTrocks - 50 DistrictTwelve - 52 someguy - 58 gardyfan - 60 Following: Kanenrá:ke Aaand we're back to nixing #1 hits. Not only did this mark the second single from Southern Star, this also marks the second #1 hit eliminated so far. THis time, it's me that loses a top 30, with two others losing a top 40 a piece. Note that there are no bottom five ranks here.

Now this one surprised me... 56. Close Enough to PerfectTotal Points: 400 Average Rank: 44.4444 Standard Deviation: 15.54921 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 1 mamasaid - 11 Cody Wants Out... - 28 tim - 45 gardyfan - 47 LBTrocks - 48 someguy - 51 castleoblivion26 - 52 DistrictTwelve - 58 bboat11 - 60 Following: Kanenrá:ke GASP!!! What's that I failed to mention? Someone almost loses a top 10, in this case, mamasaid . I'm really getting tired guys. Sorry. Despite me getting tired and attempting to make lots of changes in my life, I was actually stunned to see this come in so low. In fact, I still hear it on the radio from time to time. Is it perfect? No. But I didn't anticipate this many low rankings. I guess that's what happens when a bunch of 'youngsters' are thrown into the mix. I can't believe that my #65 is still in. I was sure that it would be the first or second song out. It's the only Alabama song that I think is truly awful.

Yes, #11 for me...I suppose you had to be there...but think about it...your friend has a girlfriend and you don't understand what the big attraction is...This friend is explaining it to you rather than tell you to mind your own damn business. It may ring a bit close to home for Randy...his wife was 17 when they married, he was 24...they're still married, so something works 45 years later.
As for "nixing #1 hits"...consider the source...Alabama had two runs of 21 #1 hits in a row...for 42 #1 songs...there are only 65 songs on the list! and one of those is a Christmas tune.

Deja vu from the most recent reveal, except this one wasn't a #1 hit...
55. She's Got That Look in Her EyesTotal Points: 396 Average Rank: 44 Standard Deviation: 16.26346 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 21 castleoblivion26 - 11 someguy - 25 mamasaid - 42 LBTrocks - 45 gardyfan - 50 Cody Wants Out... - 52 bboat11 - 54 DistrictTwelve - 54 tim - 63 Following: Kanenrá:keWe now have a second person with a near top-10 loss in castleoblivion26 and tim loses another one of his bottom fives. Despite this missing the top 20 on the country charts here, it did hit the top 10 in Kanenrá:ke's neck of the woods. Initially, I was just gonna include their top 20 hits for this rankdown (plus the two additional songs that went top 40 on unsolicited airplay), but situations like these were why I lowered my 'bar of expectations' to top 40 instead.

I've always really liked this song so I'm super sad to see it out this early.
BTW I'm the one that almost loses a Top 10 here.

#54 is a song that takes down two top 20s and was a #1 hit for them in the 80s. We also break into the first of many of their AC crossovers...
It may not surprise some of y'all since it was bound to leave us soon anyways...

It may not surprise some of y'all since it was bound to leave us soon anyways... 54. Lady Down on LoveTotal Points: 393 Average Rank: 43.6666667 Standard Deviation: 22.1303 ( 4th HIGHEST!) Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 1 Billboard Hot 100 Peak: 76 Billboard Adult Contemporary Peak: 18 gardyfan - 12 mamasaid - 13 tim - 21 someguy - 44 Cody Wants Out... - 56 LBTrocks - 61 bboat11 - 62 castleoblivion26 - 62 DistrictTwelve - 62 Following: Kanenrá:kegardyfan loses his first top 20 while mamasaid loses a second top 20. It seemed to have been doing okay throughout submissions, but later lists that consisted of bottom five entries pushed this out of the top 30, then out of the top 40, then out of the top 50. I always found this to be kinda sleepy and, evidently, I'm not alone. The first bold-faced word in my post is self-explanatory: "Down" is in the song title. The second word "break" is a much milder version of what the subject of this song's about. Third: "She'd rather be bound".

This song just didn't stand out for me so I'm glad it is out early. This also completes my Bottom 5 as all of them are out. Just 3 more to go and my entire bottom 10 will be out!

You know, I think I might have underranked "Lady Down On Love". I don't remember anything about it, and when I was ranking I had completely forgotten how it went by the time I got to some later songs, so it just kinda kept getting shoved down. But I do remember I didn't dislike it at all!

53. Then AgainTotal Points: 391 Average Rank: 43.4444 Standard Deviation: 13.76691 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 4 bboat11 - 15 tim - 31 mamasaid - 40 DistrictTwelve - 41 someguy - 45 LBTrocks - 51 Cody Wants Out... - 55 castleoblivion26 - 56 gardyfan - 57 Following: Kanenrá:keThe first single from Alabama's second Greatest Hits compilation brings bboat11 a little bit of pain as he loses his first top 20 entry, which is also a top 15. tim also loses a near top-30 and mamasaid loses her #40. castleoblivion26 and gardyfan lose another one of their bottom tens. This honestly never stuck with me, but evidently it must be somethin' special since someone was breave enough to put in the top 15.
Our first top 10 loss, which is also a near top 5, comes up next. It is yet another one of their #1 hits...

Woooooow. Lol I thought this would be one of their ballads that made it at least to the halfway point. The best part of this song was the wordplay in the hook ("Then Again" becoming "Find the love we had back then again")

52. Touch Me When We're DancingTotal Points: 380 Average Rank: 42.2222 Standard Deviation: 17.11562 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 1 mamasaid - 6 castleoblivion26 - 30 someguy - 36 LBTrocks - 39 DistrictTwelve - 44 bboat11 - 51 gardyfan - 56 Cody Wants Out... - 59 tim - 59 Following: Kanenrá:ke Look on the brightside mamasaid ! At least you almost pushed it to the top 40; unfortunately, too many bottom 15 ranks (outside of mine) prevented this from rebounding. Heck, even LBTrocks top 40 actually made matters worse and pushed it out of the top 50! I always found this to be kinda cheesy honestly, even though this was a more recent discovery on my end.
Closing out our bottom 15 is someone's #65...and someone else's #1, making this our very first #1 loss in the rankdown!!!

I'm pretty surprised that with this few participants we are going to have a song ranked at both first AND last place! That's gotta make it one of the higher standard deviation songs.

bboat11 this actually happens more than once, but this particular one didn't make the top five highest; that'll be coming in the 40s and 30s... 51. Tar TopTotal Points: 374 Average Rank: 41.5555556 Standard Deviation: 21.68012 Billboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 7 DistrictTwelve - 1 LBTrocks - 13 bboat11 - 34 castleoblivion26 - 46 Cody Wants Out... - 47 someguy - 53 mamasaid - 56 gardyfan - 59 tim - 65 Following: Kanenrá:ke A more recent participant in country RDs, DistrictTwelve becomes the first one to lose his #1, making this the second time it's happened since it's already happened to him in the George Strait RD. The picture I posted was essentially for math geeks (like me and fearlessarrow , any others out there?) and was a graph of a discontinuous function; in other words, if drawn with a pencil on paper, you'd have to pick up your pencil to go back to drawing it again at a different location, althought that's not necessarily the case 100% of the time. This discontinuity was meant to represent the song to break the band's first streak of 20 #1's before picking right back up with their collaboration with K.T. Oslin "Face to Face" (which went out in the bottom five).

This "discontinuity" was intentional. The band knew instinctively this would not make #1, but did it anyway. It's Randy's autobiographical tune. So not a favorite of mine in their catalog.

Okay then... ...on that note, I s'pose it's time to eliminate a GH single; here are the ones that are remaining: - "She & I"
- "Born Country"
- "We Can't Love Like This Anymore"
- "Give Me One More Shot"
Which one of these would you like to see out next?

Personally, I'm glad this one outlasted the other 'touch' song.
Next up at #48 is another #1 hit from the 80s, with two more of our top 20s to go with it...
