"So Close" and "Walk on Water" won't be bottom 10. They'd probably land in the 59-75 range. "Walk on Water" has more haters than "So Close", but I don't see it/them getting eliminated that quickly.
This was honestly a pretty lackluster year. A handful of terrible #1s and a bunch of just fluff on the charts. ETA: okay, the only 'terrible' #1s were "Take It All Back" and "Thunder", but you get my point.
I'm calling highest SD going to "Nobody Speak". I'd say "Thunder", but it depends on the participants. I don't think anyone on the rock board will rank it above their top 50.
I don't know how strong the second year effect will be on some of these songs. I feel like the ones that were in 2016 are a little safer because, like me, it was our first rankdown and people probably mishandled their rankings a bit. I'm looking at you "Talk Too Much". I ranked it at #34 (when it should have been top 20; it was a first listen), but it's going to be a shoo-in for my top 5. If anything, I hope that one of all the songs makes an improvement.

"Kill For Candy" could win it as well. Haven't seen any hate for it, and I imagine that pop posters will like it. It goes good reception during Summertime Madness, so I can see this being a real dark horse in this rankdown. Feel It Still will probably get tanked by a lot of people. I'm expecting to be the highest ranker for that song I can think of two specific people that will rank it higher than you.

We're posting in a different font, and you know what that means...2017 IS ABOUT TO GET BALLOTED! It's time for the rock chart rankdown version of the B-B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATE! The first group of posters is the kind of group you'd expect for the first ballot update, even with a large turnout expected: wheatsquares33, Daryl the Beryl, and Troy. (Don't worry, janinho, you're the first poster in the next ballot update.) It's early, of course, so I don't know how much stock I'd put into this early update, but I will say this: A couple of songs are making themselves known as contenders quickly.
- After the first couple of rankings, there was, seemingly, a new #1 after every ranking added. Things have stabilized a bit, however, and the #1 has been the #1 in the ranking for the last two submissions now. The lead is not a large one, as you'd expect at this early stage of the ranking process, but any point you're #1 in the overall ranking is a good one. The #1 after two rankings is currently #2. - Four songs have been in every single top ten, and they make up four of the current top five (and the top three). - A couple of the submissions have tanked a couple of songs that, you'd think, would be contenders for the top ten. Again, it's early, but one ranking pushed a song that was in the top five out of the top 25. - Five songs have been in every bottom ten, and four of them are in the bottom five...but one is actually pretty close to escaping, just five points behind #90. - Seventeen songs have already crossed the 300 point threshold, while 20 songs are still below 100 points. None of the songs in the bottom ten have more than 60. - The songs in the bottom three all have less than 25 points. - One song, in particular, surprised me with its support early. Given the song, I'm now close to positive that it will have the highest standard deviation by the end of the ranking process. Two songs have surprised me with how poor they are doing, with both just barely in the top 50. - And what would a ballot update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...
With it being early in the ranking process, there's no shortage of ties...and there's even one worthy of SOUNDING THE ALARM FOR! Yes, there's a tie in the top ten, at #6. We also have ties at #19, #27, #32, #39, #41, #47, #50, #54, #68, #94, and a three-way tie at #35.

I will likely submit my list near the end to see how much my rankings would change stuff for the ballot update, haha.

I'm only five songs into this, but I just have the feeling a lot of you are going to hate me once we get the rankdown going. For example, I'm probably the only one that actually likes "Walk on Water" and "Fire Escape." Honestly, half of this I couldn't care less if I ever heard again. I'd have to look at the 2016 chart again, but this year was either the worst or second worst Alternative chart I've seen since I started getting into music in 1994. So many snoozers...

submitted! List definitely gets rough towards the bottom and is weaker than previous years of Alt, but the top of my list is solid.

Just started listening to this playlist. Please kill off those two gigantic pieces of s### known as Middle Fingers Okay, fi-- (Oops, sorry, letting a little bias show. ) We're posting in a different font, and you know what that means...WE HAVE OUR SECOND BALLOT UPDATE OF THE DAY! It's time for the rock chart rankdown version of the B-B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATE! The second group of posters to send submissions are a who's who of rock chart rankdowns (kind of): janinho, lyhom, and Web. Their rankings, as you would expect, have shaken up the overall ranking, but how much? Well, let's start with this...
- Not only was there a new #1 with janinho's ranking, that #1 was able to stay on top throughout the three rankings sent in for this ballot update. Its lead is...dicey, though, to say the least: #1 holds a one point lead over #2 and a four point lead over #3. #3, meanwhile, is only five points ahead of #4. The top four have now distanced themselves big time from the rest of the pack, with #4 holding an over 40 point lead over #5. - Meanwhile, songs #5-#7 are separated by just three points. - The same four songs have been in every top ten, with the top three being three of them. #8 is the other, but its position is a little more tenuous than the other three songs. How tenuous? #8 and #13 are separated by four points. - A couple of songs in the last top ten plummeted, with two in particular taking hard falls out of the top 20. - One of the five songs to be in every bottom ten was finally able to escape with the most recent ranking, meaning that just four songs remain that cannot get out of the bottom ten. - Threshold update time! The top four are the only songs over 600 points, though 21 are over the 500 point mark. Six songs are still under 100 points. - The bottom two have yet to reach 50 points. #100 is now over a full ranking behind #90. - A couple of songs are still struggling more than I anticipated. One song that I considered a favorite to do well is not even in the top 50 currently. - And what would a ballot update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...
whispers What's that, no one? whispers We have ANOTHER one? ...SOUND THE ALARM! AGAIN! Indeed, we have a top ten tie, which can be found at #10. We also have ties at #15, #19, #31, #42, #47, and #55.

I'm listening to the playlist right now and "Everything Now" came up in the shuffle.
How convenient that I was playing Wii bowling when it happened!

James I'm a little concerned with the amount of time you spend Wii bowling, racking up those perfect games yet?

Walk on Water isn't that bad. It'll probably in the 70s or 80s. Fire Escape I'll say will be in the 80s - there's too much crap this year for it to be bottom 10. Thunder I'll say will likely end up where A Sky Full of Stars landed in 2014. I didn't even like Fire Escape, and I didn't rank it bottom 10 this year. Both Judah and the Lion tracks will easily be in the bottom 20. TIAB maybe has a chance to escape bottom 10 with it having more fans this time round and unlike 2016, it will have a much higher standard deviation. No way Suit and Jacket escapes the bottom 10, though. For my bottom 10 predictions I'll say "FU" Fingers, Suit & Jacket, One of Us, Legends, Champion, Set on Fire, Vacation, Ahead of Myself, Good Morning and Cocoon taking it up, not in any particular order.

Looks like you guys are going to get a once in a lifetime chance to watch me upgrade a rap song on one of these rankdowns, like you've never seen me do before. That's how bad the songs on this list are. However there are about 35 songs here that I really love, so my top 40 will be HOT!

Beyond curious to see how Nobody Speak plays out here, considering the ability of RTJ to jump genre lines

We're posting in a different font, and you know what that means...I DIDN'T TAKE THE MONEY! It's time for the rock chart rankdown version of the B-B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATE! Well, this is a different group of posters (sort of): Green Baron, morneaumispelled, and Walking Contradiction are the posters this time around, and, as always, their rankings helped to shape and rearrange the rankdown. But how? Well, I'm glad no one asked!
- Well, that was quick. After four rankings spent as the #1 song, the previous #1 fell out of the top three by the end of this ballot update. The new #1 has been #1 for the last two ballots, but it holds just a two point lead over #2, a previous #1. Meanwhile, there are noticeable gaps to be found elsewhere in the top five: #2 is over 30 points ahead of #3, while #3 is over 20 points ahead of #4. - The top four has become more of a top three, too, with #4 now just five points clear of #5. #16 is less than a full ranking behind #4, so, unless you're in the top three, your position probably isn't safe. - One of the four songs that has been in every top ten fell out by the end of this ballot update, leaving just three songs that have been in every top ten. They are also all in the top five. - One song took a hard tumble with these most recent rankings, now close to being out of the top 50 after once being a song that was steadily in the top 25. (And no, this is not a reference to "Hard Times".) - The four songs that have been in every bottom ten are still in the bottom ten, and they make up four of the bottom five. - Threshold update time! The top 7 are all over 800 points, and the top 20 have 700 or more points. Eight songs have yet to reach the 200 point mark, but almost all of them have reached 100 points...except for two. - The bottom two have have yet to reach 100 points. In fact, they have still yet to reach 50 points. Both songs are well over a ranking behind #90. - That song that I kept talking about as a struggling song continues to struggle. In fact, it's struggling even more now. It's closer to #100 than it is to #1. - And what would a ballot update be without Pulse's Favorite Part of the Ballot Update...
Sadly, there will be no alarm sounding for this update, but there are still plenty of ties to be found, with a surprising amount near the bottom of the overall ranking. There are ties at #14, #19, #28, #31, #37, #72, #84, #87, #91, and #97.

"Walk on Dragons" will not escape my wrath. I can't recall "Fire Escape" , but the title sounds very Vance Joyie and you know what I think of that artist?

Submitted. There are so many meh songs in this list it's crazy.
I won't comment on my list much, but I really don't know how I'll do in this rankdown, lol. The songs from your guys' bottom 10 predictions were almost none in my bottom 10; though I don't think I should be losing anything in my Top 50 in the bottom 10 (though my #37 is iffy).
As for Top 10 predictions, there is one song I think people are really underestimating. I won't name the song, but it's my #6. I think this one is a huge dark horse candidate for Top 10.

Using a letter scoring system (A+, A, A-, etc.)
1-24: A's 25-50: B's 51-67: C's 68-90: D's 91-100: F's
