We're one new ranking away from our third ballot update! It's been entertaining (and sometimes frustrating) watching songs pinball in their rankings as new lists come in. More than a couple of times I've seen a song go up almost 10 spots when one list comes in only to get knocked back down by about the same amount by the following list.
I calculated the average number of places songs moved after each list was added. Of course, there is much more change early on since there are fewer lists contributing. However, this still gives a sense of how the overall rankings have been affected with each new ballot.
Average number of spots songs moved after incorporating list:
janinho : 12.28 Daryl : 6.58 rockman : 5.40 Green Baron : 4.62 Red : 3.42 wheatsquares : 3.14 dm2081 : 3.26

rowellfarm490 I see you included the single version of Greatest Show on Earth in the playlist (aka the one without the indulgent 10 minute jam session) -- is that the one we are supposed to rank?

Also unpopular opinion but while this list's highs are argueably a bit better then alt's highs, there's way more mediocre shit on here and I think the lows are a bit lower too (besides TIAB, it's hard to top that in shittiness). While there's obviously some great stuff on here and I'm really happy active exists because a lot of my favorite artists wouldn't have a home otherwise, I still think alt is the better format.
My how times have changed...

Unpopular opinion: GSPE really isn't that bad. It's not very good either, it's basically the average post grunge song in my eyes with better riffs but worse vocals. And I really dislike Kid Rock (at least his more country leaning stuff).

"Greatest Show on Earth" is probably one of the few songs with "cowbell" That I hate and I like some of his trailer park trash rock..

Submitted.
My Top 10 should be rock solid outside of my #8, which I see coming out rather quickly because it wasn't big here (I could honestly see it out in bottom 10 b/c it wouldn't surprise me with y'all). The rest of my Top 10 should be safe until Top 50. Though, there is one other song that might get unfairly shafted and you'll feel my wrath...

submitting now...what is with the obsession with "flames" or "fire" in active music anyway?
i'm pleasantly surprised that i only really hated my bottom 10 here...much of this material is more "meh" which is a marked improvement from other years' active lists

Oh boy, the lists are sure pouring in today so, here it comes, the third ballot update! This time around we feature two Rock Rankdown regulars wheatsquares33 and dm2081 along with a less frequent contributor Beno ! (Your rankings will be on the next update maine and Troy .) Let's see how these 3 have shaken things up...
-The song that took over the top spot in the last update remains in first. It holds a 10 point lead over the current #2 which was formerly at #4. The old #1 that had the lead early on has now fallen to #4 and is over 40 points behind #1. -Two songs made big moves within the top 10 this update. Our current #3 rose up 4 spots from #7 whereas #9 fell down 4 spots from #5. -Two songs that weren't in the top 10 last ballot update are there now. Both have been in the top 10 previously. -Only 2 songs have been in the top 10 after each ballot. Both are in the top 5. The third song that previously held this title got knocked out of the top 10 after adding Beno 's list. -Our #100 is anchoring it's roots and becoming entrenched. It remains at the bottom and is now over 50 points behind #99. Both of these songs are besieged as they are the only ones yet to reach 100 points. -Two songs were able to escape the grip of the bottom 10 with this update. Unfortunately, that means that 2 others must take their place. One of these fell into the bottom 10 for the first time after wheatsquares33 's list was added while the other has been in the bottom 10 on and off. -Four songs have still been in the the bottom 10 after every ballot. -The top 3 songs are the first to break 800 points and the top 13 have all gone over the 700 point threshold. On the flip side, the bottom 26 are all under 300 points and the bottom 9 haven't reached 200 yet. -Surprisingly, the songs with the highest and lowest standard deviation from the last update remain unchanged. They were different in between ballot updates though. The highest SD is now at #36 while the lowest SD is at...drumroll please...#100. -What were our biggest movers this update? Trending in the positive direction is our #55 which rose 13 places. This song has been on the climb after pretty much every ballot since the beginning. On the contrary, the song moving the most in the wrong direction is our #77. It fell 14 spots this go around. -One of the coincidences I mentioned previously remains (well, sort of...) while the other looks to be done and over with. -And now for Pulse's favorite part of the Ballot Update...
Oh my, is it really time?!? Yes, SOUND THE ALARM, we have a tie in the top 10 at #8. There are also ties at #19, #24, #36, #51, #63, #70, and #82.

Even when I would go to concerts rock always uses pyrotechniques or whatever they are called. Shooting fire from the guitars, explosions from drums. KISS, Motley Crue, Ozzy, Poison, Alice Cooper, Def Leppard, Van Halen were regular users of of this. I think it adds to the fiercness of the songs. Visuals was/is everything with Rock music,so naturally the lyrics and band names will also reflect on this, as well. I don't go to much concerts now a days. Kiss was the last one I attended. There was so much fire in that one, I thought the stage had actually gone up in flames. Also, I do recall seeing a few explosions in Demi Lovato's concert too. :kii:

This is a friendly reminder that your lists are due in less than a week. (I meant to do this last night but didn't get around to it with things going on for New Year's.)

I'm almost done with this. Not many surprises. Those who know me, can probably guess what songs get upgrades and which ones get the shaft? You can all probably guess my #100T song , off the back, and that's fine with me, cuz my bottom 10 are fucking garbage. There are a few of my regular top 10 contenders, way at the bottom this year. also; there is one band here that most of you like, but I really find no use for. I hate their song intros and their brand of "elektro space rock" or whatever it's called? All IN all, I really only liked my top 50 or so. I seriously doubt anyone's top 10 will resemble mine, but I do have a few, fierce, board ,favorites in there too.
I think the Active year was way better than the Alt, for the shear fact that the genre recognized the better songs, and made those the top hits, where as ;Alt ,got their stupid list completety ass backwards.

I've fallen a bit behind on the updates but here we go Ballot Update #4! This update highlights the contributions of maine , Troy , and morneaumispelled ! (Web and Doc Indie Party Rock will be in the next update). So what has changed this go around? It is time to find out!
-Our #1 remains unchanged and it has taken a commanding lead. It is now over 70 points ahead of #2 and is the first to hit the 1100 point mark. Our #2 also stays the same and leads #3 by almost 20 points. The song that was formerly at #1 has now fallen further to #5. -The songs at #4 through #7 are stacked closely together right now being separated by only 11 points. -Songs on the move within the top 10 are #3 which rose 4 spots and #10 which tumbled 7 spots. -This update sees one song enter the top 10 for the very first time while a former top 5 candidate gets bumped out. The 2 songs that have been in the top 10 after every ballot still remain. -Our #100 won't let go...of the bottom. It is now over 70 points behind #99 and is the only song yet to break 100 points. -#99 is a different song this time. It fell 2 spots from #97 while the former #99 moved up to #98. These 3 bottom dwellers are the only songs under 200 points. -The song that entered the bottom 10 in the last update has rebounded and escaped while a new song has met its demise not only entering the bottom 10 but nose-diving into the bottom 5. -Four songs have been in the bottom 10 after each ballot. Two of these do have hope as they are about 20 points away from making their get away. -As for point thresholds, the top 7 have broken 1000 points and the top 35 are all over 700. Conversely, the bottom 37 are all under 500 points and the bottom 13 have yet to surpass 300. -At last, a different song has the highest standard deviation! This song sits at #44. There is no change however for the lowest SD which is still #100. -Making a huge leap this update is our #56 which rose 15 spots. Seven other songs also joined in the fun by jumping 10 or more spots. Having no such luck is our #71 which plummeted 18 spots. Seven others see a similar fate by descending 10 or more spots. -Neither of the previously mentioned coincidences apply but a new one has surfaced to take their place! -And now for Pulse's favorite part of the Ballot Update...
-The ties are not as exhilarating this time but there is still one at #47.

I seriously wondering what #1 could be. If it hasn't changed, that means everyone must love it to some extent. It better some melodic, fierce guitar song, and not some boring crap, that's all I'm saying.

I scream, you scream, we all scream INDIE!!! Welcome to Ballot Update #5. This update incorporates the rankings of Web , Doc Indie Party Rock , and @carseatlegrest . (I have received 3 more rankings so there will be another update soon!) Let's just say this one brings about some MADNESS, MAAADNESS!
-This madness does not extend all the way to the top. We have the same #1 and it still leads #2 by about 70 points. It is the first song to break 1300 points. #2 is holding strong as well maintaining its position over the last 9 ballots. The former #1 from our first ballot update has made a bit of a comeback and is now at #3. -The bedlam begins with the turnover in the top 10! Three songs are purged: two of these were there most of the way while the other was a newcomer. So what enters to take their place? One song springboards 8 places into the top 10. The other two were mainstays early on. -One song that has never been in the top 10 has been slowly inching its way up. Now at #12 it is 15 points away from making its entrance. Will this song's hike continue? -Just like at the top, there is no chaos at the bottom either. Our motionless #100 remains about 70 points behind #99. This unfortunate song has yet to achieve 100 points. -The pandemonium continues however with the transformation of the bottom 10. Similar to the top 10, the bottom 10 sees three songs leave. Two of these were in the bottom 10 the majority of the way whereas the other song first entered during the last ballot update. What songs meet their demise? One song descends into the bottom 10 for almost the first time while the other two have been there off and on. -Our #86 has been slipping ever closer to its downfall in the bottom 10. It has yet to cross this threshold but we will have to wait and see what its destiny holds. -It's later in the submission process so huge leaps are going to be few and far between. The turmoil of this update does see one song ride the escalator up 12 spots to #65. Nine others ascend 7 or more positions. On the flip side, 3 songs plummeted 10 or more places: our #40, #71, and #77. Two others rode the slide down 7 spots. -There is no change here: 2 songs have been in the top 10 after each ballot whereas 4 songs have been in the bottom 10 every time. -The songs on opposing ends of the SD spectrum are the same as last update. The highest standard deviation rests at #48 while the lowest is parked at #100. -24 songs have joined the 1000-point club. In contrast, 23 songs have not even been able to scrape together 500 points.
-And now for Pulse's favorite part of the Ballot Update...
-Do my eyes deceive me?!? NO, they do not, SOUND THE ALARM we have a tie at #2!!! Joining in on the fun are ties at #30, #44, #53, #67, and #80.

Ballot Update #6 brings into the mix the rankings of 3 posters with contrasting taste: Az Paynter , Lordef†ones , and rgreen0625 . You may think that with a group like this collosal changes would be on the way. However, the rankings actually remained fairly stable for the most part although a few songs did see dramatic changes. -Starting at the top, our #1 is beginning to run away with this one. It now holds a commanding lead of 130 points over second place. Our #2 has not relinquished its position either remaining there over the past 12 ballots and is ahead of third place by over 25 points. -There is a great deal of fluidity in the middle of the top 10 with #3 through #7 being separated by less than 25 points. It's still anyone's game in this region. -A former mainstay jumps 4 spots to re-enter the top 10 while what once was a top 5 candidate slides down 7 spots on its way out. -Eight songs are within 100 points of #10. Five of these songs have never been in the top 10 during a Ballot Update. -Our lifeless #100 did get some good news this update as it finally surpasses 100 points! Yet, it still remains 70 points short of #99. -The bottom 3 have remained stagnant maintaining there position over the past 7 ballots. -A song that escaped the bottom 10 during our third update rejoins the doomed. Making its getaway is a song that's been hovering around #90 for most of the process. -Four songs are within 100 points of #91 and are in danger of making their descent into the bottom 10. Three of these songs have been there before. -The top 9 songs have all reached 1400 points and 40 songs have now joined the 1000 point club. The bottom 12 are the only songs yet to get 500 points with the bottom 2 being the only ones unable to scrape together 200. -Making giant leaps were our #63 and #79 which both moved up 8 places. Three other songs also moved 8 spots, but in the wrong direction: #45, #53, and #78. 21 songs were rooted in place this update. -Well, how about that! Two of our coincidences have come back into play this Ballot Update. -And now for Pulse's favorite part of the Ballot Update... -There's no need to sound the alarm this time. We do have ties though at #23, #39, #48, and #72.
