Bold indicates the song is still on the chart, italics indicate a song which earned a record this year (with said record accompanying song)
1. "Castle on the Hill" by Ed Sheeran -- Peak at 1 for fourteen weeks -- 36 weeks on the chart -- With a song that blew up for the first half of the year, it's not surprise that it secures the top spot this year, edging out the next two were also favorites for the peak position. That being said, spending 14 weeks at number one is usually a gamebreaker and this year was no different, with "Castle on the Hill" tying for 1st at most weeks spent at number one. Additionally, it also spent 30 weeks in the top ten, making this song tied for sixth for longest time spent in the Top 10--a record aided by him falling in and out of the number one spot. Furthermore, it stayed for that long after debuting in the Top 10, a record Ed now ties for fourth at with other Top 10 mainstay Ken Ashcorp ("Supernatural" and "Always Heading Forward"). We're not through yet as this song jumped from 100 to 8, meaning its 92 position jump earns it third place for highest jumps on the Hot 100. And by replacing "Shape of You" (which in turned replaced this song) Ed became the fourth artist who replaced himself at the top spot and only the second to do so consecutively.
2. "Say You Won't Let Go" by James Arthur -- Peak at 1 for one week -- 60 weeks on the chart (8 weeks from 2016) -- After 46 weeks of a long climb, this song smashes the previous record held by Lorde's "Team" for longest climbs to number one.
3. "Praying" by Kesha -- Peak at 1 for seven weeks -- 24 weeks on the chart -- In a record she shares with "Shake It Off" and "Wear", "Praying" debuted at number one and spent 17 consecutive weeks in the Top 10, making her tied for sixth for that record. Wait, she debuted at number one? Chock that up for a record, making it the eighth song to debut atop the chart. Kesha previously did this last year with her comeback hit "True Colors."
4. "Let's Hurt Tonight" by OneRepublic -- Peak at 1 for one week -- 41 weeks on the chart -- Much like its counterpart below, this song took quite a while to reach the top spot, having been a victim of "Castle on the Hill". After 30 weeks, it finally reached number one, meaning it is now in fifth place for longest climbs to number one.
5. "Never Again" by Breaking Benjamin -- Peak at 1 for one week -- 35 weeks on the chart (11 weeks from 2016) -- As was just said, "Never Again" was a victim of "Castle on the Hill". However, it maintained momentum and hit number one after 24 weeks. This makes it now in ninth place for longest climbs to number one.
6. "Leave Out All the Rest" by Linkin Park -- Peak at 1 for four weeks -- 22 weeks on the chart -- Much like Kesha earlier, "Leave Out All the Rest" debuted in the Top 10 fast following the unfortunate passing of Linkin Park lead singer, Chester Bennington. The song spent 17 consecutive weeks in the Top 10 before falling out, making this song tied for sixth in that position. Furthermore, it also gives it the unfortunate distinction of being one of three songs to top the Hot 100 with a singer credited posthumously.
7. "Green Light" by Lorde -- Peak at 1 for one week -- 21 weeks on the chart -- Through sheer willpower of wanting another number one hit, Lorde managed to debut in the Top 10, avoid the dreaded "number 2 without hitting number one record" by spending a week at the top, and tying for fifth by spending 18 consecutive weeks in the Top 10. She shares that slot with "The Jig is Up" by JimC Sq.
8. "Galway Girl" by Ed Sheeran -- Peak at 1 for one week -- 22 weeks on the chart -- Continuing off Ed's fantastic year, "Galway Girl" debuted in the Top 10 and spent 19 consecutive weeks there, making him tied for fourth for that record.
9. "Talking to Myself" by Linkin Park -- Peak at 1 for one week -- 21 weeks on the chart -- When this song hit number one, it became the second of three songs posthumously credited to Chester Bennington to attain that feat.
10. "Michi" by Utada Hikaru -- Peak at 1 for one week -- 35 weeks on the chart (11 weeks from 2016) -- Not only is this the first official non-English language single to reach number one, but it also took 28 weeks to get there. This means that it is now in seventh place for longest climbs to number one.
11. "24K Magic" by Bruno Mars -- Peak at 1 for 10 weeks -- Year End of 2016 – 20 -- 35 weeks on the chart (6 weeks from 2016) -- Bruno had a great year, and it all started out by making it to 10 weeks at number one, finishing off a fun coming into the year. This makes him tied for third place for that record. Additionally, "24K Magic" spent 19 weeks total in the Top 10 after debuting there, locking it in for fourth place, tying with the previously mentioned "Galway Girl" and another song in a similar position early last year: "Hello" by Adele.
12. "Learn to Let Go" by Kesha -- Peak at 1 for one week -- 20 weeks on the chart
13. "We Will Stand" by JimC Sq. and The Phantoms -- Peak at 2 -- Year End of 2016 – 53 -- 39 weeks on the chart (18 weeks from 2016)
14. "Look What You Made Me Do" by Taylor Swift -- Peak at 2 for eight weeks -- 16 weeks on the chart -- Unlike another hit we'll see later on, "Look"'s record managed to take place during the cusp of the entire year, earning Taylor such a high position on the Year End list. After spending eight weeks at number two without going number one, "Look" is now tied for fourth place in that position. Additionally, it jumped 95 spots from 100 to 5 in order to earn second place in biggest jumps on the Hot 100.
15. "That's What I Like" by Bruno Mars -- Peak at 1 for one week -- 24 weeks on the chart
16. "Glorious" by Macklemore ft. Skylar Grey -- Peak at 1 for one week -- 18 weeks on the chart
17. "One More Light" by Linkin Park -- Peak at 1 for two weeks -- 21 weeks on the chart -- Much like the previously two mentioned Linkin Park singles, when this song hit number one, it was posthumously credited to Chester Bennington, a feat never done before. Furthermore, when it replaced "Talking to Myself" at the top spot, they became the fifth act to ever accomplish such a record.
18 "Feels" by Calvin Harris ft. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, and Big Sean -- Peak at 2 -- 26 weeks on the chart
19. "Cut the Cord" by The Living Tombstone ft. EileMonty -- Peak at 3 -- 29 weeks on the chart (1 week from 2016)
20. "...Ready for It?" by Taylor Swift ft. JimC Sq. -- Peak at 1 for three weeks -- 15 weeks on the chart
21. "What I've Become" by JimC Sq. ft. Linkin Park -- Peak at 1 for two weeks -- 17 weeks on the chart
22. "I'm Still Standing" by Taron Egerton -- Peak at 5 -- 26 weeks on the chart -- It was certainly an eventful year for this song. Despite a strong initial run, it slotted into third place for highest drops off the Hot 100. With the huge comeback it made later this last summer, this record is certainly one it'd like to forget.
23. "Good Goodbye" by Linkin Park ft. Pusha T and Stormzy -- Peak at 9 -- 36 weeks on the chart
24. "Body Moves" by DNCE -- Peak at 1 for one week -- Year End of 2016 – 94 -- 31 weeks on the chart (11 weeks from 2016)

"Unsteady" by X Ambassadors -- Peak at 1 for one week -- Year End of 2016 – 86 -- 51 weeks on the chart (31 weeks from 2016) -- Due in part to the redone video featuring JimC Sq., this song took 36 weeks to reach the number one spot, meaning they are now in third place for longest climbs to the top.
28. "Songs About Me (And Who I Am)" by JimC Sq. -- Peak at 4 -- 21 weeks on the chart
29. "Boukyaku" by Utada Hikaru ft. KOHH -- Peak at 5 -- 28 weeks on the chart
30. "Shape of You" by Ed Sheeran -- Peak at 1 for one week -- 18 weeks on the chart -- By replacing "Castle on the Hill" at number one, Ed became only the fourth person to replace themselves at the top spot.

40. "Another Love Song" by Ne-Yo -- Peak at 11 -- 22 weeks on the chart
