I love that we are always finding ways to try to get someone to listen to our flop faves. No YOP thread, RT theme, or Games section stone will be left unturned in our mission to get somebody, anybody to validate our taste in music. That is when you know the love of the music is real. Like "LISTEN TO THESE SONGS THEY'RE GREAT DAMMIT PLEASE GIVE MY FAVES 0.0000002 CENTS ON SPOTIFY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD." It's the modus operandi of Pulse so much at this point.
"Lazy Eye" would be my #1 even if we combined every song from all past Rankdowns. That is until we get to 2006, where my #3 favorite song of all time appears.
"Prayer Of The Regugee" is a respectable winner even if it's a bit predictable.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this year! This was my first rankdown of this multitude, and I have to say it went pretty well! Just one big hiccup towards the beginning, but it was smooth sailing from there. It's nice to be able to host one of these, especially with me being the reigning Rock Poster of the Year. I have to hold up my end of the bargain on that in some fashion, right? I'm pretty soft-spoken, so this will be it. I will say this: this rankdown made me find a Silversun Pickups song that I actually really like, lol.
Before I go though, I do want to thank one person regardless of what y'all think of him: Green Baron. He really helped out a lot with this and is the main reason this went real smoothly. He did a lot of the heavy lifting, and I basically just inserted the lists, did ballot updates, and posted the reveals. He was the one who set up the entire spreadsheet and walked me through it and how to use it, while also writing out most of our previews (the ones that don't suck are him – I'm awful at previews lmao), plus pretty much everything you see besides him posting on Pulse since he's, um, not here. So for real, the thank yous should be going to him.
Now, stay tuned for 2006 Alt, which will be hosted by our favorite new poster and friend, @humanshazam !

I would've been happy with any of the top 3 winning since all three are stellar if you ask me. "Prayer of the Refugee" makes the most since winning this Rankdown though. I'm glad "Lazy Eye" did as well as it did. With such a strong year, I was concerned it wouldn't even make the top 10. I was also really pleased with how well "Jesus Christ" and "Into the Ocean" performed. "Icky Thump" really deserved to make the top 10 though. Great job hosting maine !

9. The Pot (#25) - I'm hardly a diehard Tool fan, but I appreciate them, and this is one song from them I really like. Happy for the fans that this made top 10.
8. Supermassive Black Hole (#7) - Muse were on fire during this era. One of my favorites from them, showing their funkier side.
7. Into The Ocean (#6) - One off for the second time in a row, but I'm amazed this made it into the top 10. Well deserved.
6. Dig (#34) - Wasn't expecting this to make the top 10 either, but it's a good song and I can't complain about Incubus doubling up.
5. Jesus Christ (#46) - Wow, I clearly underestimated how much people love this one. I appreciate it, but it never rose to "love" level for me - I was bigger on "Sowing Season" myself. Still, Brand New are legends around here, and it's always fun to see a left-field pick get this high.
4. Anna Molly (#11) - Just missed my top 10, but I'm still happy to see it this high. One of my favorite singles from them.
3. Starlight (#10) - Muse at their best, again. Love the atmosphere, the melody, the soaring vocals, everything just clicks perfectly with this song.
2. Lazy Eye (#4) - The highest song on my list to make the top 10, so I was rooting for it to hit #1. Still a fantastic song and one of their best.
1. Prayer of the Refugee (#24) - As overrated as Rise Against tend to be here, and even though I would have preferred any of the songs from 2-4, I'm actually cool with this being #1. It's a pretty damn good song, definitely one of their best, and a more worthy #1 than "Savior" in my book.
Another really fun rankdown, and maybe the most interesting and satisfying top 10 I've seen. Great job James (and Baron)!

10. What I've Done - Linkin Park One of the few good songs this band has. I'm not sure it deserves top 10, but I know a lot of you love this band.
9. The Pot - Tool I was scared this would win, but I am surprised at the lack of #1's here. I expected this to be a landslide win. I didn't like this one bit, but if it would be here on today's Alt chart? You can bet I would put this so much higher than half of the; Fingersnaping-hi-hatting ,alt ,crap charting today.
8. Supermassive Black Hole - Muse Great song, but this song is no surprise on the top 10. Starlight will probably win?
7. Into the Ocean - Blue October I didn't realize this song was this popular? I think I heard it 5 times back in the day? Probably the best song I've heard from this band? I forget their songs.
6. Dig - Incubus Great song by great band. I just barely kept it out of my top 40 songs.
5. Jesus Christ - Brand New Holy crap I was the tanker for this. This was a first time listen and it has a fucking #96, cuz this isn't my groove. Not even a good powerballad. It actually bored me to tears.
4. Anna Molly - Incubus Fuck Yeah! Now this is an Alternative balls out song. I'm glad my last remaining top 10 beat out my last two bottom 10 songs.
3. Starlight - Muse I downgraded this just a bit, but couldn't keep it out of my top 20. Always a classic, but I still prefer "Knights of Cydonia"
2. Lazy Eye - Silversun Pickups I guess you all forgot that I'm not particularly a fan of "Lazy Eye". It's kinds just there with the guitar strumming and sounds like a Lazy, Smashing Pumpkins song. I don't consider this Indie at all.
1. Prayer of the Refugee - Rise Against Great song. This one anchored my top 40 of that year. There is really never gonna be any kind of surprise ending weather it's rocksters or popsters voting. The same bands always win..
Almost 24 hours later, and I'm still a bit salty about one of my favorite songs of all time losing to a mediocre Rise Against song. "Lazy Eye" is an epic masterpiece on every level - the fuzzy guitars, the atmospherics, the tension and building throughout... There is not a single thing that I'd change about it; it's a perfect song in every way possible. I find Rise Against to be a bit overrated in general around here - that being said, "Prayer" is easily my least favorite of their three singles from this album era (and I swear I'm not just saying that out of bitterness!). It's a decent melodic punk song, but nothing more to me.
This was otherwise a pretty satisfying top 10 though, for a very, very strong year. In particular, "Jesus Christ" is a masterpiece of emo and modern indie rock in general - lyrically, musically, and atmospherically. I was hoping it would go far knowing the amount of top-end support it would garner, and I'm glad it was able to make the top 5. Thanks for an excellently hosted rankdown, maine (and Green Baron!).
Closest pairs: 1. Green Baron & @humanshazam - 9.82 (This might be the highest closeness I've ever seen between two members in any rankdown, holy cow. There's a reason why we refer to these two as twins...) 2. Green Baron & peacebone - 16.22 3. @humanshazam & peacebone - 16.62 4. Daryl the Beryl & YotamTS - 16.80 5. Green Baron & lyhom - 17.86

tbh Lazy Eye is better than almost half of that list
also glad I'm back to sharing the polar opposite music taste crown with indulge, people fought for our throne earlier but now it's back in rightful hands.

Lazy Eye is great and all but it’s a bit overrated imo. I wouldn’t consider it one if the SSPUs Top 5 Best Songs, let alone better than The Eagles.
An "epic masterpiece"? Nooooo. And in the same list as those other masterful songs? Absolutely not. If you MUST pick a Radiohead song, go with Creep or Karma Police but his vocal performance on Paranoid Android is rough
