#43 is a bit of a juicy one. We now get into the high standard deviations, this one being the sixth highest. You can blame that on three top 20s, one being yet another top 5 loss, and three bottom 10s, two being bottom 5s. This song was nearly in the top 35 at the midpoint of the rankdown, but the last 4 ballots just didn't give this song enough to lift it any higher.

Fightin' words might be slung at the reveal of #42. It's not in the 10 highest SDs, but it is close. Someone who has lost a top 10 takes another blow with this song. There is one other top half ranking which comes close, too. Three bottom 10s, including two bottom 5s, were the cause of its poor finish. This song wasn't truly a potential bottom 10 until just about the last half of the submission process, falling as low as 43, just one below where it ends up.

This just didn't do it as much as others on this list. Not bad.

Let's take out a more agreeable song for our last reveal of the night. #41 was as high as #26 at one point, but it quickly came back to earth, aka. the bottom 10, occasionally even flirting with the bottom 5, before rising to just below the top 40. This song has 3 top half rankings, the highest being only a top 15. It also took on two bottom 10 rankings, one being a bottom 5. We encounter our second tie already.

Surprise! I come bringing cupcakes extras! Like in a Billboard rock chart rankdown, these are songs that missed the cut for this list. But, since I had full control over the list, there are a multitude of reasons why they didn't settle in here, instead of just not charting well enough. For the initial 4 days of reveals (all the way until the top 10), I will post a couple extras at the conclusion of that day's reveals, and each day will have a theme. Today's theme is: Closer to the Horns, or, technically(??)-metal songs from typically hard rock bands that I overlooked partly in order to duck genre arguments. EXTRA Horror-Teria (The Beginning) Twisted SisterPost your thoughts on this song below! Dee Snider liked to say that the lumping-in of Twisted Sister with Glam Metal was peculiar. He said a band needed to look glamorous to fit the term Glam, and their fashion was too grimy for it. To a degree I understand his dismissals--he wouldn't nearly be the first or last musician to mount rebuttals to outsiders' genre classification, and the rest of Hair Metal was an embarrassment--but, like, come on. If you listen to their music, it sounds pretty much like all those bands who looked prettier. You can lead a music writer to ink, but you can't make them spill it, if the categorization isn't accurate. Now, they were definitely always among the more genuinely metal of the Glam "Metal" bands. The line between Hard Rock and Heavy Metal truly is razor-thin, and like many others, they often had one foot on both sides. Here was probably the furthest they stepped onto the metal side.

EXTRA
Stagefright Def Leppard Post your thoughts on this song below!Ugh, Def Leppard, what could have been. Emerging from the same New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene that birthed many of the great bands on this list (Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, Saxon, etc.), Def Leppard endured growing pains on record and strife in real life, on the road to becoming one of the most successful rock bands of all time. This Pyromania song, a tight-as-hell mix of their driving heavy metal roots with just enough of that synthetic feel, had the hints of the discovery of a creative wellspring (I still maintain Pyromania's a pretty good record). Instead, they ended up basically going all the way in on the pop. Oh well.

Musically. This is a busy night for commentaries. First off; I love most MEtal. The guitars? Grinding, Thrashing, Ripping, Tearing, are my favorite part of a song. If anything would turn me on, or tune me out, it would be the vocals. Everyone has there preferred style of Metal. Mine is Nordic MEtal. The kind that feature Dragons, Warlords and Demons on their album art. I can't believe you guys crapped on Satan and Oz. > 50. Endtime - TroubleThis didn't really strike me as 80's Metal, but it's actually from 1984. No vocals didn't help the already toned down Metal style. 49. Armageddon - Paul ChainI guess the chanting tuned out some of you. I found it to be pretty great vocally once the music started. I could picture this song with some Danzig vocals too. 48. Procreation (of the Wicked) - Celtic FrostA bit too toned down for my style. The vocals really sounded unforgiving here too. 47. In League With Satan - VenomSatanic MEtal from 1981. I gave it a bit of an upgrade cause of that. I could almost picture Gene Simmons doing his most evil sounding vocals here. 46. Free Me, Leave Me - OzIt's no surprise I charted this high. I love Swedish Metal and Nordic Metal. This is the brand of Metal and vocals that pump me up the most. This sounds like Rata Blanca or Mago De Oz. BTW, @humanshazam what is Detriment refferring to? 45. Red Bomb - WhiplashThis had some interesting grinding. The vocals sounded more Punk than MEtal, and I could barely make out what he was singing. Not that it's so important in Metal, but at least being able to sing to the chorus would have been nice. 44. Empathological Necroticism - CarcassThis one was really difficult to sit through vocally. Almost as hard as rap music. 43. Wrong Side of the Grave - The AccüsedThere are only a few songs on this list, that were as hard to sit through ,as Imagine Dragons music. Vocals have always been important to me and this sounded very amatuer(i probaly spelled that wrong?). 42. Hunt You Down - SatanFirst time listen, but this song really blew me away. I downloaded this and few other from them for my work out playlist. This had some really cool 70's Sabbath vibes. 41. Piranha - ExodusWith a name like Exodus; I was expecting earth shattering vocals with high octane guitarworks. This has neither.

Extras. What can I say. I have both those albums on LP, Cassette and CD to listen to them whenever and wherever I want. Glam/Hair Metal is GOD rock to me.
The Captain Howdy line on Twisted Sister's song is paying homage to The Exorcist. Linda Blair's character was communicating with a Captain Howdy on the Ouija.

Just so you all know, I didn't dislike any of these songs. It's just that some I liked more than others. My bottom 20 are ranked based on some of the little things in each that I thought either enhanced or hindered each song.

Rather than making a big list with all of the stats, I decided to try making a summary table this time around. Legend: Rk = Closeness rank, CL = Closeness value, AvR = Average rank revealed, B10 = Number of bottom 10s remaining, Wst = Worst rank remaining, T10 = Number of top 10s remaining, Bst = Best rank revealed, PR = Number of P-P-Perfect rankings

I think I like the lists better but that's mainly cause the table looks wonky on mobile.

Let's start #40-31 a bit early, since I'm busy tonight. What you can expect: - 7 top 10s will be lost today, one being a top 5.
- We will see the 10th and 9th lowest standard deviations. The highest and the 3rd highest also arrive in this set.
- Three people come close to clearing their bottom 10s. Three people also get rid of their #50.
Barely clearing the bottom 10, our #40 has a not-very-thrilling collection of ratings. Might be why it has the 10th lowest SD. Two top half rankings, one being a low top 20. It also received two bottom 10s, one being a bottom 5. This song actually spent most of the submissions process higher than this spot, generally hanging out in the upper 30s.

If you're wondering why I always get so hyped up when I get a perfect ranking, it's because I come close to a perfect ranking far more often than I actually get one. See: this reveal.

Just following our 10th lowest SD, at #39 is our 9th lowest SD. As you could figure, it has a very similar profile. One more top half ranking, but the same number of bottom 10 and bottom 5 rankings. This one reached as high as #27 around midway through, but otherwise followed the same 30s holding pattern that #40 did.

#38 sees the latest top 10 loss. Oddly enough, this also has 3 other top half rankings, so you'd think this would land higher. Doing that was hard for this song, though, carrying around 3 bottom 5 ranks. This fell into the bottom 10 once, before getting enough support late so that no tanking could send it back there.

I have no idea, especially because I was part of that late group of posters.
I'll be optimistic and say that it's Pestilence, but I'm prepared for it to be something high in my ranking.
