Same thing could be asked about Taylor Swift, even if reputation hasn't done as well as her prior albums ...

I know you were being hypothetical , but Adele is pretty much strictly a vocalist, and that doesn’t lend it self well to the super bowl. If anything she’d make for an incredible guest performer with someone else of hi talent, who is more keen on working the stage

His 'reputation' era is upon us! The only difference being, most people know at least one song from rep lol

Adele declined the Super Bowl after the NFL asked her. I think she was smart, as it's not a show for someone like her, who is strictly a vocalist.

Say Something is going to be a legit hit though, this era is not a total disaster commercially (reputation-wise it's tough though)

First of all, Justin is a he, not a she, and "deserves" so how? Please elaborate... The one thing I would agree with is the lengthy time gap between album releases probably hurt him (it was a miracle he was able to remain big after the 7 year gap from FSLS TO 20/20). It would seem a logical progression that after CSTF, which became at least the 2nd biggest hit of his career, he would soon follow up with an album. A year and a half after that is too long, they really blew it I guess. I also agree very much that he didn't perform enough songs from the album at the Super Bowl. It does seem like a golden promotional opportunity blatantly wasted, especially that being THE SINGLE HIGHEST RATED TV EVENT of the year every year, why not perform songs from your current project, as surely that would let more people know that said project exists and it would lead more people to look it up and buy it (this seems to be a common occurrence actually with other Super Bowl performers, such as Lady Gaga only performing MR, and Bruno Mars, when he performed in 2014, leaving out his current single then, Young Girls... no wonder, despite a brief boost, Joanne wasn't helped much and Young Girls only peaked in the 30s). I will say however, Justin's number is without a ticket bundle, so you have to take that into account, and because of it, the number is actually a lot better than it seems. Assuming it sells around 200-250, that is actually higher than Pink's number minus the ticket bundle (yeah i know some ticket bundle sales would be regular sales anyway, but it gives somewhat of a comparison). I see what your saying but the Superbowl is for the general public. He's hired to do a minishow that all may/will enjoy. People don't want to always here the new songs. It may even be told to the artist. Only one "new" song in your set please. Even during some concerts fans of an artist may slip out for a second during a "new one". If I was watching the halftime show during the Superbowl and an artist I didn't care much about was performing. I would at least want to hear songs I know.

Filthy was an okay lead single, honestly I feel as though Midnight Summer Jan should have been released first or second, now THAT song sounds like a hit!

I could never tell if it's a he or a she but his stylist is a she and a lesbian! His voice was borderline. Regarding the music his album was not strong, the singles were atrocities and the video missed the mark. He had lost his youthful girl face and his or her cute pass had ended!!!

It's important to note still that this is Hits, nothing official yet. They've been off before. In fact, if I'm not mistaken Billboard hasn't commented on the sales projections yet, which has me especially curious. An era cannot be completely written off when we still don't completely know how well it did the first week, let alone a couple months. I get the reviews are poor and the public doesn't seem to like it, but even a poorly received album can be carried by one or two hit singles, which everyone says Say Something is likely to be. In fact, a poorly received album can be carried by 8 hit singles, in the case of Teenage Dream (it has a similar score on Metacritic - in the low 50s).

How big is The Black Panther Sdtk. going to be? 200k SPS first week? Higher? I could see it going higher right now with the hype of the movie coupled in with several tracks charting on iTunes right now from it. When people realize that it's basically another Kendrick album sans 2-3 tracks he's not on it could drive it to 300K+ It has also been getting amazing reviews.

^I have no idea of the actual SPS or sales numbers, but I'm going to guess a good part of its total will come from streaming of its songs.

He is only on 5 of the 14 tracks, and some of those appearances are just a verse. But it will probably be one of the most successful soundtracks in awhile. Also, does anyone happen to have an all-time list? Up until recently, there were not a lot of successful soundtracks post 2010. I know we have the 8 Mile Soundtrack which was big in the early 2000s. Also of course Frozen and some other musical related ones.

Also of course Frozen and some other musical related ones. He wrote and has a production credit on all 14 tracks. If you took the time out to listen to the album you would see that he makes other appearances besides the ones that he has top billing for and that includes doing either a verse, hook, intro, outro, or any combination of the group. For example on Paramedic! it just shows SOB x RBE yet Zacari and Kendrick do the intro (both not listed), Kendrick starts the first verse, and has vocals throughout the track including the chorus. Oops with Vince Staples & Yugen Blakrok, Kendrick does a whole verse and the chorus. He solely drives the narration of the album.

Pretty good sales without a hit single, but I'd think the streaming numbers would've been higher.

Terrible opening especially coming off the Superbowl. Considering how toxic the conversation around his (boring) Super Bowl show was, still pulling 296k is decent. Word-of-mouth will still kill it next week, probably, and the SPS wasn't big enough to signal a long life on Spotify (like Camila, Bruno, Ed or Kendrick who are still top 10 without actually selling much).

Ed and Kendrick are obviously on another level when it comes to streaming, though, especially Kendrick.

CHART STORY: TIMBERLAKE ON TOP
Fresh off his Super Bowl LII halftime performance, RCA’s Justin Timberlake dominates the Top 50 Chart, as fifth studio album Man of the Woods goes #1 with 296k. Migos’ Culture II (QC/Motown/Capitol), meanwhile, slides to #2, moving more than 90k in its second week out. The red-hot trio also has four songs in the Song Revenue Chart Top 10, with “Walk It Talk It” f/Drake at #2 ($167k+) and “Stir Fry” at #4 ($152k).
Three other new releases make the overall chart’s Top 20 this week. NOW’s Now 65 appears at #10, Rich Brian’s Amen (88rising/EMPIRE) is #16 and AWOLNATION’s Here Come the Runts (Red Bull) comes in at #18.
NF’s Perception (NF Real Music/Caroline) jumps #24-19, as breakout hit “Let You Down” continues to move up inside the Pop radio Top 10 with sights set on the Top 5. As for more noteworthy moves, Maroon 5’s Red Pill Blues (222/Interscope) rises #38-27 in tandem with the release of the “Wait” music video, which stars headline-grabbing actress Alexandra Daddario. And then there’s Warner Bros.’ Dua Lipa, whose eponymous album goes #34-28, as smash “New Rules” spends a second week at #1 on the Pop radio chart. It’s also worth mentioning that Dua just did SNL.When it comes to marketshare, SME is #1 with 39%, UMG is #2 with 36% and WMG follows with 23%, while the indies claim 3%. Streeting this week are TDE/Aftermath/Interscope’s Black Panther and Republic’s Fifty Shades Freed soundtracks, as well as a set from Columbia’s MGMT.
