Basically what singer/band that has better newer music than their originally old music that made them big. For me I would say Bruno Mars.

Justin Bieber for sure. Niall Horan, Liam Payne and ZAYN are all doing stuff I like much better than 1D.

I heard Nickelback went straight-up rock instead of post-grunge...

I heard Nickelback went straight-up rock instead of post-grunge... I mean it's still kind of post grunge leaning, but it's certainly heavier and it's certainly better. Check out Feed the Machine and the Betrayal if you wanna see for yourself.

I have a stupid question, but I generally don't know what the difference between rock and grunge is. Grunge is the style of rock made popular in the early 90s characterized by crunchy riffs, fairly simple song structures, and a general dark tone. See: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden. Post grunge is a term referring to a fairly watered down variation of this that can be applied to many of the popular rock bands on the radio right now, such as Seether, Three Days Grace, and Pop Evil. Rock is just a general term, referring to the genre as a whole, in which grunge and post grunge are subgenres of.

Kesha, Miley, Harry Styles, Keith Urban. Ed Sheeran's Divide and Katy Perry's Witness are the first albums by them I liked enough to buy. *shrug* I wouldn't say BT is P!nk's best album by any means, but it's definitely an enormous step above TTAL.

Kendrick Lamar. His earlier music is also incredible, but he stepped up his level with DAMN.

I'd also add Beyonce. Her first three albums had killer singles and some standout tracks, but her last three albums have been incredible, complete bodies of work.

Radiohead. They started out okay with Pablo Honey, they then made a better album called The Bends, and ever since then they have been churning out great albums, aside from The King of Limbs.
Similar case with The National; started out okay with their self-titled debut and Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers, and ever since then they've made great and better albums.

reporting this thread for not having Kelly Clarkson mentioned yet 'Meaning Of Life' as a whole is a cohesive masterpiece and definitely among her best stuff ever, but the songs individually can't reach the pinnacle of stuff like "Behind These Hazel Eyes" or "Because Of You" which btw, both come from 'Breakaway'.

Bruno Mars. I could not stand any of his early singles. It’s amazing how quickly he turned that around with Locked Out Of Heaven. Aside from the baffling choice of releasing Gorilla as a single, I can’t complain about anything he’s released since.
