This was released as a single from 2016's Lemonade. It peaked at #6 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, #14 at rhythmic and #10 on the Hot 100. Had it not been a Tidal exclusive for streaming and available to purchase right away, this probably could have gone to #1 on the Hot 100. Oh well.
I thought this song was garbage. However, the video meant a lot to the black community. Very relevant. It's definitely one of my favorite videos of hers.

Loved this. Tidal is a damn wreck.
I'm still surprised that this album ended up being her first to generate no #1s on Urban.

I'm still surprised that this album ended up being her first to generate no #1s on Urban. Urban radio caught up on the memo that Beysus does not play the game anymore. Of course there's going to be backlash. This song is very important and will forever be iconic.

I remember the CHR/Pop forum meltdowns when this dropped! :kii: I didn't bother treading there. lol. People losing their sh*t in the Urban forum was enough. The king had to remind people who she was and where she came from. A country black gal from Houston, Texas. lol. Mike Will Made It's production was so different from his signature beats from prior years. Great usage of New Orleans bounce and trap music. Beyonce completed it with simple and catchy lyrics. The video was awesome, replete with great imagery and choreography. The message was clear to those who understood the social climate at the time. The song and video still slay.

I didn't like the song when it first came out because it was just so different, but I grew to love it. The music video is iconic.

This song is LIFE-GIVING. Just hearing a song by one of our biggest stars so explicitly celebrate blackness, it was inspiring. And keep in mind, I'm white as f**k and it even impacted me. When this picks up during the pre-chorus and then hits, it's epic.
And the video is iconic. Some of her fiercest visual moments (I'm partial to the choreography she's serving in the hallway with the breakthrough braid).

One of the best songs off Lemonade imo. I agree this easily could have gone #1 on the hot 100 if Beyonce cared at all.

Proof that songs can be total bops but also overrated at the same time. Really love it though.

This was the beginning of the end of me enjoying her music. I hope that eventually she will use her vocal talents in he future releases.

This is the definition of iconic. People love to use that word incorrectly on this board, but this is the correct meaning.

If MAD TV were still in production, I am convinced there would be a skit of this starring Deborah Wilson where her blonde braids get dragged under the car.

Remarkable victory lap of a song in where, after completing the hard fought task of eliminating her female R&B peers, she decides she is no longer a singer.

Thought it was trash at first. Now I think it's legendary/iconic possibly her signature song with Crazy In Love and Halo.

Would have been an instant #1 if it wasn't exclusively for Tidal.

Heard this in the Super Bowl for the first time and thought "Oh, she's doing Countdown".
But outside of some messiness in the lyrics, the song grew on me to the point that I dug it.
The video is iconic.

Such a moment and still so fresh - hard to believe it’s already 2+ years old! An essential in her already stacked discography.
