Pop: The Playlists

Working at the Strange Music record label for the Digital Media department has inspired me to try to become a Spotify curator and influence people's choices on what they listen to. It's certainly no easy task as it involves keeping track of a lot of data and really pushing hard to promote your playlists at first to get them off the ground and a lot of pick and choosing that is hard work, but fun and worth it!
So, I started a couple of weeks ago with my personal playlists. These playlists were made first to help me gather a small follower base to help kickstart my future general playlists. Currently, the playlists combined have 11 followers. They are as followed:
Au$tin's Top 100
Obviously, it's based off of my Top 100 chart that I post every week on Crownnote. I try to update it on Sundays, but of course, that's not always the case since it's the one that needs the most attention with data collecting and analyzing, so sometimes it updates on a Monday or even Tuesday. Right now it's my most popular playlist. Current tracks include: "Lemon," "Bound to You," "Tell Me You Love Me," "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken," and "I Know."
Weekend Loading
This one is one of my favorites to compile! It's compiled based on my weekly plays from a Friday-Thursday timeline. I look at my most played songs of the week and then gather together the top three songs that have never been on the playlist before. These three kick off the playlist in order of most played to least played. The next three songs on the playlist were last week's new songs in order of how much I listened to them this week. The following nine songs are my other most played tracks for the week that have been on the playlist before. It's a short 15-track playlist in hopes to get listeners equipped to hearing the whole thing or most of it, at least. It's also short to be used as a "pre-game" type of playlist when one is getting ready for weekend outing (hence the title). Current tracks include: "50 Feet," "Therapy," "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken," "Out of My Head," and "Split Stones."
Throwback Thur$day
Pretty self-explanatory. It's a 20-track playlist to take a walk down memory lane. I randomly select any date between October 1, 2007 and last year and grab my top four played tracks of the prior seven days to that date. I select five different dates from random to compile this list together. The "$" in the title is there to indicate that it is a personal playlist still and not a general one, so it's tracks that I personally have nostalgia for while others might not, but it's a good chance for other listeners to hear older songs they might not have known existed. Current tracks include: "Do Ya Thang," "We Can't Stop," "I Feel It Coming," "Teenage Dream," and "Love Like This."
Starting today, which has sparked me to creating this thread finally, I have begun work on my first set of general playlist. Many people don't know this, but the second most popular playlist on Spotify, Rap Caviar, is actually part of a three tier system where certain tracks are tested out on smaller playlists, and as they show signs of attracting listeners, they move up the playlists until they find their way onto Rap Caviar (if they ever do). Learning this inspired me to create the same system for pop music as there currently isn't one in place. (Pop Rising is not a smaller Today's Top Hits, for example, as songs from there don't go to TTH if they perform well and TTH is not strictly pop music.)
It's obviously a work in progress since I need to go through several weeks of backdata to get all three tiers finalized and ready to go, but while that's happening, enjoy the first playlist, and what will be the smallest tier:
Pop: The Deep Cuts
Any new pop track or single will automatically go here first even if it's by a major artist with a hyped release. As the songs grow and prosper, they will move on to the other two tiers (which obviously are not live yet). Yes, I know currently there's some pretty big hits in this list so it's not exactly "Deep Cuts" right now, but like I said, the data has to start at some point, so every song has to start from square one right now no matter how big they are at the moment. Current tracks include: "The Middle," "Woman," "Say Something, "My My My!," and "Sober Up."
