I was just thinking about the fact that Ne-yo blocked her from getting to the top when his song isn't even selling or streaming well...

I was just thinking about the fact that Ne-yo blocked her from getting to the top when his song isn't even selling or streaming well... There’s a minimal relationship between what streams or sells well and what’s big at Urban AC. Most big Urban AC hits are not big streaming or digital download hits.

It’s because the age group the format appeals to isn’t the core age group for streaming or downloads. Urban AC listeners are people who listen to the radio at work or while driving to work, so the format relies on callout scores and other market data.

She’s released so many songs worthy of #1 at this format and this is the one that makes it....kind of bittersweet.

Congrats to her. This now passes "Hurt You" as my favorite single of hers since "He Wasn't Man Enough."

Urban AC is not a streaming audience, I could possibly see SOME downloads. Not much though. She's missing album sales which Toni does need. I wish her album sales are better. But I don't think this format is forcing Toni on anyone. Isn't EnVogue456 doing well with Rocket? There's a good amount of good songs on UAC that are new. It's not just 90's nostalgia. But there is a connection. Urban stations barely play anything UAC or even R&B now.

No it's her first #1 since "Hurt You" reigned for 4 weeks in December 2013/January 2014 and her first solo #1 since "Just Be a Man About It"... the struggle is real!

Looking at her solo singles post-JBAMAI, I could have seen only “Trippin’ (The Way Love Works)” and “Hands Tied” as potential #1s on Urban AC if she had the momentum and full backing of her labels then. All the rest seem too Pop-oriented (“Spanish Guitar” “Yesterday”), focused on current trends (“Hit the Freeway” “Please”) or just dance (“Make My Heart” “I Heart You”), so I guess that long gap between solo #1s makes sense.

What are her UAC peaks? She should at least have 5-6 #1 peaks. I feel that every single from Another sad love song to Just Be a Man about It should have gone #1.

I totally agree, the only other one that I could see on this list is A Better Man (and then Rollercoaster for the duets). It's just a shame that these didn't get a chance to be added to the list: Never Just For a Ring, Selfish, Always, Midnite, Sposed To Be, Sweat

Toni has had a bunch of potential UAC smashes on her last few albums. Unfortunately, labels kept trying to push her in other directions when it came to her singles...

Yeah, once her commercial appeal declined, they should have made her an Urban AC priority. Clearly in the 00s she still had selling potential, b/c Libra sold nearly 500,000 with terrible promo.
