Bottom: I Cried; Youâre Drunk; Since Youâve Gone to Heaven; Get High; Illegitimate Children

Here we go with our reveals! This song was in last place for most of the submission period and only 2 or 3 other songs ever really threatened it for last, though it ultimately wound up being separated with #24 by only two points. "I Cried" is one of two non songs featured in this rankdown not from one of Brandy Clark's own studio albums and it comes to us from the Dave Cobb-produced Southern Family collaborative effort that featured a number of country and American artists. It's a rather simple yet sad song about the death of a man and the tears cried not only for his departure, but for the woman he left behind. As one of Brandy's slowest and longest songs, and with lower familiarity, it didn't seem to go over that well here, though we do start off with one high loss already with recordyear saying goodbye to his #3 and two other Top 10 losses. On the other hand, five people start off with perfect rankings here. "Now she's alone Livin' the life that's too much for one Just last night on the telephone I could hear the lonely in her laugh"

Up next we have our first loss from one of Brandy Clark's studio efforts. "Illegitimate Children" falls just shy of last place by way of accumulating just two points less, though it spent a little time at the bottom during the submission process. It's a brutally honest song about a booze-influenced hookup leading to the accidental birth of children. It didn't seem to be too popular as it only got enough support from one person who put it comfortably in their top half of their rankings (sorry George Strait Junkie). One poster loses their #25 here though, and many of us lose a rather low rank so it is no great loss to the masses. "Strangers and slow songs Barstools and backseats Lead to bottles and babies Ask cabbies and barkeeps"

The second and final tune to be lifted from somewhere other than Brandy Clark's two studio masterpieces makes a quick exit as well. "You're Drunk" is a bouncy little ditty that was left on the cutting room floor from Big Day in a Small Town and was put out after the fact as a stand-alone track. It clocked in with roughly a 30-point lead over the bottom 2, though it also flirted with the danger of coming in that low at one point. A couple of high ranks saved it from the bottom, but unfortunately (for them) they didn't lift it too high and three people already lose a Top 10 rank here. It's good news for recordyear though who loses his #25 after starting out on the wrong foot with the departure of "I Cried." "You only seem to want me when you're drunk, as skunk And looking for a get you over that heartbreak humpty hump"

I do enjoy âYouâre Drunkâ, but it sounds somewhat unfinished to me. Yeah, my first thought when I heard is that I was glad it was left off Big Day in a Small Town because it would've felt like a cut below the rest of the album for me. I still like it and her lyricism is as clever as ever on it, but production-wise it does feel a little rougher to me, and the album it would've been on is literally perfect imo.

Youtube comment summarized my view towards the song: It did an excellent job to express her vocal, and it is not too sappy which is rare in country music when dealing with these kinds of matter. How come I did not predict "Illegitimate Children" as bottom 5 when I put it in my bottom 5

The first loss from Brandy's sophomore record comes with the departure of "Drinkin' Smokin' Cheatin'", a song that dedicates a verse to each of the three temptations that her significant other drives her to contemplate, but she indicates that they're merely daydreams and she knows that she'd lose him otherwise. austin loses his #25 here and a few other bottom 5s are lost, but miraculously everyone's Top 10 is spared here as "Drinkin' Smokin' Cheatin'" is the one and only song in this rankdown to not receive any single-digit placements. An oddly high number of people did rank it right smack in the middle, however, with five #12 ranks. "I ain't been smokin', but if I was smokin' I know I'd be smokin' weed When you blow all our money I'd laugh, it'd be funny 'Cause high as a kite is where I'd be"

Our final song to bow out in the Bottom 5 of the Brandy Clark rankdown has us turning back to her debut set for the twangy dobro-adorned ode to a middle-aged housewife who takes to smoking hippie lettuce to help her get through her mundane life. "Get High" certainly came in a little more divisive than the last as it knocks out two Top 5s and another two Top 10s, but also clears two #25 ranks and a host of bottom 5s go with it. Evidently not everyone was quite so 'high' on this track, though it came up only five points shy of the Top 20. Also of note, this is her first song revealed to have a music video (though she only has two others -- both of which were for her two lead singles). "She laughs out loud at who she used to be A girl who'd a looked down on A woman smoking weed in her kitchen Sometimes she misses those younger days Seeing the world through rose colored glasses Instead of this purple haze"

Damn, "I Cried" is so good. Her vocal on it gives me chills. Didn't think it'd be the first out.
"Get High" is one I knew would be low, but my sister's love of it made it grow on me a lot.
"Illegitimate Children" is good lyrically but I never cared for the melody.
"You're Drunk" is really fun but it's just a step down in terms of lyrics for me and that held it back.
Similarly "Drinkin', Smokin', Cheatin'" I love melodically, vocally, and musically. However I didn't care for the lyrics as much, I thought it'd be more clever.

Another song from 12 Stories falls and this time it's the lowkey and sway-worthy "In Some Corner" that details loneliness and desperation quite well to the tune of a light production peppered with steel guitar cries. It's neither one of her more lively songs nor one of her more intricate ballads and didn't receive a whole lot of fanfare from most, though three posters did spring for the Top 10 with this one. For the first time in the rankdown thus far, we eliminate a song without clearing anyone's #25 placement. This one flirted with the bottom 5 and ultimately only clinched a Top 20 finish by five points. "So, I say a prayer tonight he'll move on Then I pray even harder he'll pick up the phone In some corner, in some bar, somewhere"

We keep on rolling with the 12 Stories losses as the next song to leave us is "Just Like Him," another sparsely produced and delicate song about a subject that is anything but: a female protagonist falling into the cliche trap of loving a man like her dysfunctional father. The unconventional use of harmonica stands out on this track. It marks the final song to exceed 300 points in this rankdown. Another two Top 5s go down with this one, but most of us lose a song in the mid teens. The amount of doubled-up rankings for this song is crazy: six 14s, three 17s, two 21s, and four 22s, lol. "I used to say that I'd be damned before I'd ever fall in love with a man Like the one Mama wasted her youth on And I wait up all night alone I feel like I'm six years old again You're just like him"
