(Hot take alert...) I've always felt that Underwood gave a fairly lackluster vocal performance on that song. It's a pretty strong song lyrically, but I don't hear any connection at all to the lyrics. I know it's one of her fans favorite songs, so obviously some have made that connection, but it's made it fairly forgettable for me. She didn't really develop that ability (at least to my ear), until her 3rd album.

As If is soooooooooooooooo good. I also love how energetic she is when she sings it in concert, she literally acts like it is her biggest hit every time. Love this one, happy it did so well.
I hope Sugarland wins.

#1. Sugarland - "Settlin'"
Total Points: 478 Average: 21.72 Year Released: January 1st, 2007 Mediabase Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1 Rankings:Cody Wants Out... - 2 zaclord 🌈 - 3 Kanenrá:ke - 3 bigfan101 - 4 tim - 4 d3vin44 - 5 rgreen0625 - 6 someguy - 6 austin - 9 sabre14 - 9 bboat11 - 10 g8erboi - 11 toomuchboy - 13 castleoblivion26 - 18 .indulgecountry - 19 carriefan15 - 29 fearlessarrow - 29 kw9461 - 45 gonecountry - 52 George Strait Junkie - 56 CoJoFan - 64 LBTrocks - 81 "Settlin'" was the second single off Sugarland's sophomore album, Enjoy The Ride. It was released New Year's Day to radio and peaked at #1 in early May. It actually tied "Stand" by Rascal Flatts in total Billboard audience but because "Settlin'" was increasing and "Stand" was decreasing, "Settlin'" got #1. Literally, one spin would have made the difference one way or another.
I remember some people saying this was "Something More" part II and while I see that comparison, "Something More" I think is the slightly better song...but I love "Settlin'" too. Sugarland's first two albums were so good and they were one of my favorite acts when they broke out in 2004-2005.

Haha I was at least hoping it could be #2, so it could make the #2s rankdown lol Hey, there's still the Some Hearts rankdown coming up! (Although tbh I would rather see it end up in a future #1s rankdown, rather than a future #2s rankdown )

Damn, sabre14 ! You really plowed through this top 40! I'm sorry I haven't been commenting as actively as you might have liked. This was an awesome rankdown though! So many amazing songs, and I'm not terribly disappointed about anything with how it played out, because I was fully expecting Martina to get tanked... "Settlin'" is an amazing song, and I am very happy to see it win a rankdown! That's 2 huge rankdowns in a row for Sugarland

Out of the Top 10, the Top 4 were exactly the songs I was hoping for, albeit in a different order. The final stretch of this was near-perfect. I loved all of those and was gonna be happy with any outcome. Little bummed Miranda didn't win with my favorite song of hers ( sabre14 #twins), but I love that Sugarland jam. I just saw them in concert this past weekend so nice timing. I might've slid that one a little higher on my list now even.

Thanks sabre14. Interesting that no ones #1 hit #1. The dynamic nature of statistics.

"Wasted" is an actual perfect song. Disappointed that it didn’t win, but I’m glad it at least made top 3. Anything less would have been absolutely unacceptable. As for "Settlin’"... Great song, but definitely not the first song that comes to mind when I look back on country music in 2007. It is what it is, I guess.

I'm SUPER happy that Sugarland won another rankdown, especially one as big as this! I was in my final semester of high school when this reached it's peak! However, I'm not the hugest fan of seeing a song with no #1 ranks actually win a rankdown. In my defense, though, I did flip-flop between my top 2 before submitting my list!

Wow!!! SO happy Sugarland won! I didn't think people would like that one as much as they did! Settlin' is one of my all-time faves from them and SUCH a jam! Very very deserving winner!

So very happy with the winner here, I had it at #3 but literally could've flipped my Top 9 or so around. Thanks for hosting sabre14
