I actually expected this song to do well, and this is about where I expected it to show up. I didn't think it would get a lot of high-end support, but I was right in assuming that it would get a lot of top half rankings, which would propel it into the top 15. Oh, and before I forget...

#13 (look away, singingrulebritannia) was a song that started out well, being a perennial top ten contender early. A wave of poor rankings followed that nearly dropped it out of the top half entirely, but nicer rankings began to swarm in after that and helped to nearly get this song back into the top ten by the end of the ranking process.
All but three posters ranked this song in their top half, though only five ranked this song in their top twenty fifteen. Four of those posters also ranked this song in their top ten, and one poster is about to lose a very high top five. Two posters also ranked this song in their bottom ten, and one will be clearing their bottom ten here.

I thought that this particular song might do well, but I was surprised by the amount of people who had this song decently high. Oh, and gates, I wasn't kidding. You need to turn away for this reveal. The reveal is some kind of a Texas psychobilly reveal, that's what it is.

#12 surprised me only in the sense that it would be more of a top ten contender than it actually was. In fact, this song only spent ONE ranking in the top ten, at #10. It spent the latter half of the rankdown mostly hanging out just outside of the top ten, though (gates, relief!) it did not start out very well.
Eight posters will lose a top twenty rankings with the reveal of #12, with two of those rankings being the kind of ranking that inspires a certain Killer Instinct-inspired saying. Three posters will also lose a top ten ranking, with one poster losing a high top five. Only one poster will lose a bottom ten ranking, but it will clear that poster's bottom ten.

So, what song JUST missed the top ten? Well, it's certainly a divisive song, as we see the reveal of the song with the second-highest standard deviation at #11. This song also started out well, only to find itself tanked out of the top ten and, at one point, tanked out of the top 30 entirely. It looked like it would finish at the midway point, but a slew of high rankings late helped moved this song back up the rankdown...and very nearly into the top ten.
Seven posters--wait, is this right...huh...seven posters lose a top ten ranking at #11, four of those rankings being top five rankings...and two of those rankings being a dreaded #1 ranking. The next ranking after the last top ten is outside of the top half, and three posters ranked this song in their bottom ten. One poster ranked this song in their bottom five, and it's a low bottom five. One poster will also clear their bottom ten here.

This song had the craziest ride of any song in this rankdown, bar none. A top ten contender quickly falls out of the top half, struggles to stay in the mid tier of songs...and then zooms back up the rankdown, only missing the top ten because time ran out. What a ride.
My condolences, singingrulebritannia and Lordef†ones. Finally. I find Grimes to be pretty overrated in general ( though she does have one song that I really, really, really like), but I didn't truly dislike anything of hers until "Kill v. Maim" was released. One of the most obnoxious songs I've ever heard. I hadn't heard it in about two years before this rankdown, but I relistened to it again before submitting and yep, still hated it.

30. Bizness (#19) - this was definitely unique, got some afrobeat vibes, really enjoyed it, as well as "Water Fountain" 29. Bloody Angel (#20) - wow, this was really good. almost got like a lighter black metal vibe, radio friendly but also very sinister 28. Hours (#34) - FKA Twigs is very good, and this song was no exception. however, it doesn't match "Two Weeks" for me 27. Superhero (#9) - oof, this hurts. this actually kinda introduced me to FNM, always loved this. Mike Patton's vocals soar on this track 26. House of Jealous Lovers (#16) - damn, this was also great. super dancey, which usually isn't my thing, but it worked here. the vocals really were crazy 25. I Was a Lover (#4) - my highest first listen. LOVED this, the glitchy production sounded like something off of The King of Limbs, definitely my favorite thing I've heard from TVOTR 24. Stillness is the Move (#18) - the vocals on this were just majestic, really enjoyed this 23. Institutionalized (#14) - now, "I Was a Lover" was my highest first listen, but this was my favorite first listen. spoken word always does well with me, and the sheer angst of this song was just great. incredible hardcore punk song 22. I Want to Disappear (#21) - wow, thought this would be top 10. one of the best things I've heard from Manson 21. Left Behind (#28) - Slipknot have always been a guilty pleasure, and this is no exception, super driving song 20. Keine Lust (#31) - i generally enjoy Rammstein, and i enjoyed this. not a standout from the rankdown, but it was definitely good 19. The Hammer (#39) - Motorhead are good, but they're not one of my particular favorites. thoughts on the band apply to this song 18. Caught in a Mosh (#25) - great thrash song, not much else to say 17. Luna (#5) - well damn, this was really good, Dream House is one of my favorite songs and this was just as good 16. Farewell, Mona Lisa (#11) - one of the best things I've heard from TDEP, super chaotic and frantic 15. Kill V. Maim (#49) - i pretty heavily underranked this, went in with the idea that this sounded like k-pop and it led to a low placement from me, gave it another listen and now i like it a lot more 14. War Ensemble (#22) - another great thrash song, preferred this a bit to the other thrash giant song 13. Psychobilly Freakout (#15) - this was really unique, loved the kooky, crazy vibe of the whole thing 12. The Feast and the Famine (#42) - always thought this was kinda overrated, good enough song but it lacks something i usually love in Foo Fighters song 11. Maggot Brain (#6) - wow, this was something else. truly the most beautiful song in the rankdown, and that guitar is just insane
What songs are you surprised to see in the top ten? definitely surprised Kodama and Cassandra Gemini made it, a bit surprised State of the Union made it too What songs are you surprised to see miss the top ten? I Was a Lover, I Want to Disappear Have any top ten predictions...or, at the very least, a #1 prediction? i've never done a full top 10 prediction, so why not 1. I'm Designer 2. Spectrelight 3. March of the Pigs 4. Hexagram 5. Know 6. Right On, Frankenstein! 7. Know Your Enemy 8. Cassandra Gemini 9. State of the Union 10. Kodama

Two sets of reveals in one day/night? That is exactly what's happening. It's top ten time!
What kicks off the top ten at #10? How about the song with the second-lowest standard deviation? This song never left the top 25 and mostly hung out in the 11-20 range, with a few outlier rankings below the top 20 sprinkled in. For a while, it looked like it would finish somewhere in the 11-15 range...and then the last ranking sent it into the top ten for the first and only time.
All but two posters ranked this song in their top half, and seven posters ranked this particular song in their top twenty. Only two posters ranked this song in their top ten, however, though one may or may not be a bit of perfection. Only one poster even ranked #10 in their bottom twenty, and it's not even a particularly low ranking there.

#9 was a song that I pegged to be a favorite to do well in this rankdown, and it did not disappoint. It also had the seventh-lowest standard deviation...though I thought it would be even lower. Though it didn't exactly start out that way, eventually, it was a top ten mainstay, spending the final nine rankings in the top ten, including an extended stay in the top five.
Once again, there are no bottom ten rankings to be found at #9, and there are only two bottom twenty rankings, both high rankings. We'll also see four top ten rankings fall here, with just one top five ranking among them...a ranking that's not particularly high, either.

Before this rankdown even started, I pegged three songs as favorites to win: Two songs that are higher up...and this one. I would actually say that it did not live up to my expectations, because I thought it would be a top five lock. It did not end up getting that far.

#8 is one of the few songs in this top ten that does not have a high or low standard deviation. It also spent all but three rankings inside the top ten, as well as spending four rankings inside the top five. The #8 spot was the one that kept calling for this song to stay at its place, spending four separate instances at the #8 spot, including the last ranking.
Only three posters did not rank this song in their top half, with all but one of those top half rankers ranking it in their top fifteen. Six posters went a little further and ranked this song in their top ten, and two posters will lose a top five ranking, one being a very high top five. Of the three non-top half rankers, one is a bottom ten, which is a bottom ten clearer.

More than any other underdog, this was the "little engine that could", the song that looked like it might shock everyone and have a shot at taking this rankdown with no one predicting that it would do that well. A shame that someone had to rank it bottom ten, but at least it clears your bottom ten, right, @carseatlegrest?

#7 claims another banner standard deviation, this time the ninth-lowest. This song spent around half of the rankdown in the top ten, though the most time it spent in the top ten consecutively was at the end, when it spent the last four rankings hovering around the top five. I will say this, though: It did not start that way.
All but two posters ranked this song in their top half, and one poster came close to joining them. Five posters will lose a top ten ranking at #7, though only two are top five rankings...but one is a relatively high one. The lowest ranking on this song is not a bottom ten, but it's a bottom twenty.
