Billboard's Top Songs of 1986
Going to switch gears and do this first before Billboard 1988. Thank you to all who submitted for that rankdown...
Billboard 1987 will follow and then I'll move onto Billboard 1988...
Seeing as though this is a big rankdown with 100 songs I am going to make the deadline for this June 30, 2018.
1. Inverse Point system will be used (i.e. rank singles 1-100).
2. You must rank all the singles (if there's a remix you prefer, you can use that for your ranking instead, you don't have to specify whether you did)
3. PM me your rankings. Please do not use numbers. I will know the first song on your list is No. 1 and so on...it makes it easier for me when I spreadsheet it.
4. Submissions will be due by June 30, 2018.
5. Manage your time wisely please. Deadlines are deadlines. I will send plenty of reminders, don't worry...

Some really great songs, including one of my all time favorites and one of the most awful songs of the 80s (I'm looking at you Words Get In The Way).

Aside from 10-15 truly saccharine songs, this list is pretty strong. I can see myself having a hard time with the ranking.

Take Me Home Tonight flies instantly into the Top 10!
Too bad Heart's, Nothin' At All didn't make the year end '86. Any way to find out what number it landed at?

Wow so many of the songs towards the top suck, and I say this having expected Lady In Red to be on this (forgot it was an '87 hit in the US).

There are not as many OMG SO GOOD CLASSICS like in 1983, 1984 and 1985, but there are lots of strong songs here. I don't have a clear top 10 at first sight, though, whereas in the other 3 years there were too many candidates. It'll be fun anyway!! And I'm glad that we are doing this right after 1985. Further, it helps to see the list now, as Dr Indie and I were already commenting on songs that actually charted in 1986 and not 1985 although we had charted them in 1985 (eg Tarzan Boy, Party All The Time). Look forward to another good trip down memory lane!!

Wow, alot of my childhood favorites are on this list, especially Janet, Phil Collins, Anita Baker, and Gloria Estefan!!! I think I know what my #1 will be.

Found this Spotify list for Billboard 1986.
It is missing a few songs (on a quick glance one song missing is "Spies Like Us") but it should be good enough for most...

Tentatively /in, despite the fact that this list is noticeably weaker than both 1984 and 1985. It’s not bad by any means, there’s just some clunkers on it that should make for easy early exits.

Started working on it this week; I see why you wanted to skip ahead to '88. Most of the songs from the lower half of the chart are pretty bland.

these songs are on my 86 best-of list & were huge hits...they're so much better than the schmaltzy ballads that made the cut to the official Billboard list...maybe we will see some of these in the 87 rankdown?:
Walk Like An Egyptian - Bangles Fight For Your Right - Beastie Boys To Be A Lover - Billy Idol Livin On A Prayer - BonJovi Way It Is - Bruce Hornsby Change Of Heart - Cyndi Lauper Notorious - Duran Duran Land Of Confusion - Genesis Control - Janet Jackson Open Your Heart - Madonna Opportunities - Pet Shop Boys Big Time - Peter Gabriel In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel Don't Get Me Wrong - Pretenders C'est La Vie - Robbie Nevil Future's So Bright - Timbuk3 Everybody Have Fun Tonight - Wang Chung

I like all of those songs you listed.

That Part rock, Beastie Boy's song is the only one of theirs, that doesn't make me hide under the covers. :kii:

So far, I have only 35 more songs to go. So far, I'm finding this list a bit easier than the previous one. I think 1986 is definitely my favorite year for music by far! The songs on here make me go "now that's what I'm talking about"!! This year seems so heavy on the ballads though, but they're actually favorites from my childhood, lmao. I mostly put some of them towards the middle of my rankdown.
