#35: Black And White I like this one. "Shabooh Shoobah" is one of my top 3 INXS albums. They were still defining their style, but I love all the New Wave vibes the songs had. This song was especially delicious in the percussion. My top 20 was around the place where I really had to think about what is my favorite and what I could sacrifice.
#34: Time I really didn't recall this one too much, but I loved the bassline. This was definitely the 90's sound of INXS. More hard guitars. I preferred their songs to have more brass than hard guitars.
#33: Shining Star The song was ok. Groove guitars and horns sounded great, but I like his vocals the best. I got the Morrison vibe from his delivery. Especially in the verses.
#32: Burn For You "The Swing" album is really underrated. There some wonderful gems on this one. "Burn For You" is very 80's. The synths worked just right.
#31: Don't Lose Your Head Not really a favorite of mine. Face Off, is one of my favorite movies ,and I didn't even realize this song was on the soundtrack.

Catching up with reveals now!
40. Please (28): This was a left-field collaboration that I hadn't heard, and it actually exceeded my (low) expectations. Verses were stronger than the chorus, but the whole rock-blues combo was interesting enough to me to give it extra points. 39. The Gift (31): I initially ranked this in my bottom 5, but the strong instrumental convinced me to move it a few spots higher. Still too repetitive... 38. Underneath the Colors (40): This was my clearest bottom 3 after listening to all songs. Too simple, meh, uninteresting. 37. Stay Young (35): Sounds good, but the melody doesn't grab me as much as the production does. 36. Everything (26): I like this type of U2-like songs, and they did a good enough job with it, IMO. I don't remember hearing this one back in the day, so it was a good (re?)listen. 35. Black and White (13): I discovered this one when I bought their 2-cd collection just a few years ago. It was a great discovery! Unique rock sounding for INXS that I've kept in my iPhone ever since, as it still sounds fresh--those hard drum sounds are awesome! Wish it had received more love here. 34. Time (30): Good enough melody, but still a bit underwhelming as whole. This album had far too many songs that could've been much better with some extra work... 33. Shining Star (37): I cared a bit about this one back in the day, but afterwards I've just seen it as a reductive version of other INXS songs. They've done similar stuff much better. 32. Burn For You (32): I liked the intro and the chorus was nice, but the verses drag a bit too much for me, which made it lose points in my RD. It also sounds more like a Thompson Twins song than an INXS one... it's an interesting poppier song for them, though, which I could've ranked a bit higher... but--first P-P-P-P-PERFECT RANKING!!! 31. Don't Lose Your Head (20): Well, this was their last top 10 in my personal chart. This song had some rotation back home and I liked it enough to place it high with some nostalgia factor added to it and the strength of the chorus and musical bridge.

ALBUM OVERVIEW: SHABOOH SHOOBAH (1982)
After recording the "One Thing" single, reviews were so good that the band got more attention from labels and were finally able to get international distribution. Produced by Mark Optiz, their album cracked the Top 10, their videos got played on MTV, & they toured outside of Australia for the first time, opening for the likes Adam Ant, Stray Cats, & the Go-Gos.

INXS - To Look At You Another great one from the 80's. KROQ used to play this one. It had that dark New Wave vibe. I thought it would have made the top 106.7 of 1983, but they opted for "One Thing", and "Black and White" instead. 1983 was very competitive. One of the best music years ever.

with that reveal, we are back at it...FIVE bottom 5s and TWO Top 10s...i'd have to guess that this song had one of our largest standard deviations (but i didn't calculate those)...congrats to Aero for his PPPPP!
coming up next is the first song from its album to be revealed...most likely one of our lowest standard deviations as there are no Top 10s and only TWO Top 20s while only TWO bottom 5s.

it took me some time to warm up to Heaven Sent, and while its still not one of my favorites of theirs, it has grown on me & this seems like a good place for it
next up is a song from an album we've already heard from, it has FIVE bottom 10s including a #40, but what brought it this far is a Top 10 Top 5 Top 3 & a handful of other top half ranks

this song was played on various alt stations i listened to as a flashback track during the 90s & there's a video, so i always assumed it was a single, but apparently not...i can understand this being a bit divisive, but i think it deserved a better result
up next, TWO Top 10s & 5 bottom 10s (including a 40), & yet again no PPPPPs to be found

that song did better than i expected...Michael was still an awkward teenager back then, but he was starting along the path that would make him a superstar
you know we've had a PPPPP draught for awhile, but that ends now as we award TWO perfect scores...there's just one Top 10 and FOUR bottom 10s for this next song

ALBUM OVERVIEW: THE SWING (1984) After finally gaining some traction internationally, INXS sought out star-power producer Nile Rodgers (& some backing vocals from Daryl Hall). Nick Launay also did some production work on this album. The sound evolved to include heavy use of dance rhythms throughout. All of their efforts paid off big time as the band achieve improved sales & their very first #1 record.

#30: Dancing On The Jetty Damn! Lost a top 10 for no reason. Here is a song I don't come to often, but when I do, I remember how great it sounds. Especially when he kicks in the lyrics "Watch The World..."Has a lot of Rock en Espanol vibe.
#29: Heaven Sent Honestly, this isn't one of my favorites. I love hard rock guitar, but I didn't think the hard rock guitar vibe really fit the band. This is a good slot for the song.
#28: Melting In The Sun Ended up liking this one a lot more than I thought I would. For me #25 and up became a little hard to rank.
#27: Just Keep Walking I really wanted to put this one in the top 20. This had a great 80's New Wave vibe. Not really too much like INXS, but that's why I liked it so much. The aggressiveness in the chorus sounded really fresh.
#26: The Loved One Sounded much better in 1981. I ranked the "Kick" version for this game. Had I used the 1981 version, I would have put this song in the top 20.
EXTRA:
All The Voices The intro of this song ,sounded like early Italo Disco. It gets a bit repetitious towards end, but still a good song.

30. Dancing on the Jetty (24): A first listen. Liked its, especially the chorus... very mid-80s sound as well. 29. Heaven Sent (18): I didn't care too much for it when it was first released, but I've grown to like it much more with time, appreciating its rockier sound. 28. Melting in the Sun (38): This was another first-listen, but it didn't really connect with me the man thing I liked was the synth sound in the verses. 27. Just Keep Walking (34): Interesting song, much more rock almost punk sound. The video reminded me of Mick Jagger. I could've ranked it a bit higher... 26. The Loved One (25): The 1981 version is so much better. He sounds great, timeless, soulful. Good to see it reaching #26 in this RD.

based on my 40 rank, that wasn't one of my favorites, but it's INXS so I don't dislike it really...congrats to Mirago on his PPPPP!
now we get to songs that garnered 200+ points & a first reveal from this particular album, TWO bottom 10s & no Top 10s to be found, but it's this high because there were 5 ranks in the top 18...

I think ths SLID is probably INXS' most played & best known non-single in their career & a highlight from their LLT album, it ends up here
next, we have a TIE! one of the songs in the tie has TWO Top 10s, the other has THREE Top 10s along with a 40...& one of these songs is the first reveal from its album...which album will remain unscathed? Kick or X? - find out soon

1) Assuming the positions are all wrong; for one I didn't put 'Good Times' that low. 2) WTF are you people doing.

so, Az comes thru to break the tie in favor of Good Times with his #5 rank, just 1 spot higher than Aero's #6 rank for Kick... looks like Good Times is probably the highest standard deviation in the rankdown (so far) with a 35 point swing from top to bottom...a very different sound for them, i'm assuming it's the Jimmy Barnes influence? i really haven't heard much else from him
next up, we go from a VERY high standard deviation to a very low one, a song with TWO Top 10s & a record-low (so far) of only ONE bottom 10s
