Madonna has three top 10 in 1989 ("Like a Prayer," "Express Yourself" and "Cherish").
* "Into the Groove" is an honorary sixth top 10 for 1985, given we can say unquestionably that would have been a Hot 100 top 10 (No. 6 peak at CHR/Pop and No. 1 for six weeks on Variety's Singles Sales chart (info from the top 25 or so markets), certified gold, etc.
Thanks for working on this listing.

Thanks for the correction. I've updated it now I also thought it was kind of weird as the list was looking a little Madonna-lite, condering she has the most of all acts with 38. I'll try taking a closer look at the 80s again Also just found out I missed Bobby Brown with 5 in 1989. So thanks again

^No problem. :)
M scored three tops 10s within a year in 1992/1993, and 1994/1995, but the third of those top 10s came in the early part of the next calendar year

A bit off topic, but #6 on CHR seems shockingly low for Into the Groove, a song that's often used as an example of one of those huge airplay hits that wasn't allowed to chart on the Hot 100 because it didn't have a proper physical single. I can't imagine it got much airplay from other formats that would've made its overall airplay much bigger.

Great list, thanks!
Are we basing this on chart year? If not, didn't Mariah have 3 in 2015? WBT, SIO and DFAU though i think the latter peaked around late December.

She did have 3 in 2005. Fixed it now. Didn't even bother checking for her in that year because it's like 15 years into her career. Fucking impressive. And thank you for the correction

So, just out of curiosity, how did you compile the list? Since you said you didn't check for Mariah in 2005. I would imagine you'd just go on the Wikipedia pages for the top 10 songs each year, F3 search each of the name that shows up and tally the results. Was that not the case?

85la- Warner didn't promote ITG to U.S. radio, so stations literally played it off of an MTV recording until the 12-inch was released. :) It did peak a little higher on the Gavin pop chart (No. 4). As for other formats, it got some AC play and also at R&B stations (it peaked at 19 on the Black Singles chart).
Of note, in the long term- it has gone on to be her- usually- most-played recurrent track at U.S. radio, just a tad higher than "Like a Prayer."

^ That's interesting, I'd always assumed it was a smash Radio Songs-type #1, but I guess not so much, more cultural impact and consistent recurrent play over time and hot in the clubs, etc...
I also found it amusing that early on Madonna appeared on some of these "Black" charts (I guess they would be the R&B/Hip-Hop charts now, lol)

Yup I used the Wikipedia pages but I hate using my laptop for internet so i just went through all 60 years like 10 times each searching for acts with multiple top tens. I think for 2005 I subconsciouslly counted only WBT and SIO since they were the most memorable to me lol

Didn't Paul McCartney & Wings/ Wings also have 2 top 10's in 1976? He had the #1 smash "Silly Love Songs," but I believe its follow up "Let Em In" also made it to the top 10.

Well, if nothing else I learned from this that T-Pain and Train differ by only one letter. ;)

I hope Drake manages to score another top 10 this year and break the tie with the Beatles for most top 10's in a year.

Why anyone would root for Drake to outdo the Beatles is beyond me, but to each their own.
Imagine us 10-15 years from now and Drake has 21 #1 hits on the Hot 100. I'd die a miserable death.

It's really not that serious and why wouldn't people root for Drake? He isn't some one hit wonder. He's one of the most, if not the most defining artist of the decade. He's informed the sound that is predominant in rap music today and he's been a consistent hitmaker since his career took off in '09. There's no one I'd rather see break these kinds of records than him. I'm rooting for Drake because I'm all for records being broken. I don't subscribe to this idea that the first group of real musical legends we had who had a presence on the charts and set certain records should never be surpassed. I love that we have a new group of future musical legends/icons today. That's the way it should be. And if Drake continues on his run, there's no telling the number of #1's he could score. He came *this* close to scoring 4 solo #1's this year alone.

At this point, I doubt it'll happen. But yeah, I'm rooting for Never Recover and the collab he has with Bad Bunny (whenever that comes out).
