Ed Sheeran Returns to No. 1 on Artist 100 Chart After More Than a Year
7/25/2019 by Xander Zellner
He passes Justin Bieber for the fifth-most weeks at No. 1 in the chart’s history.
Ed Sheeran rises 3-1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated July 27) to become the top musical act in the U.S. for a 12th total week, as his fourth LP No.6 Collaborations Project debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 173,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending July 18, according to Nielsen Music.
Sheeran passes Justin Bieber for fifth-most weeks at No. 1 on the Artist 100, after Taylor Swift (36), Drake (31), The Weeknd (15) and Ariana Grande (13).
Sheeran’s return to No. 1 is also aided by eight charting hits on the Billboard Hot 100, led by “I Don’t Care,” with Bieber, at No. 3. “Beautiful People,” featuring Khalid, follows at No. 19, then “Cross Me,” featuring Chance The Rapper & PnB Rock (No. 25), “Antisocial,” with Travis Scott (No. 37), “South of the Border,” featuring Camila Cabello and Cardi B (No. 53), “Remember The Name,” featuring Eminem and 50 Cent (No. 57), “BLOW,” with Chris Stapleton and Bruno Mars (No. 73) and “Best Part of Me,” featuring YEBBA (No. 99).
Sheeran last led the Artist 100 on March 17, 2018, thanks to the success of his No. 1 Hot 100 single “Perfect.”
The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
Rounding out the Artist 100’s top five, Billie Eilish dips 2-1, BTS rises 5-3, Post Malone falls 2-4 and Khalid drops 4-5.

Gary would it be at all possible to find out how many weeks in the top 10 each artist has spent? How many weeks charting on the Artist 100 overall each artist has spent, that sort of thing?

Weeks on is already there - it is the 4th number top 10 may take a little work Oh, that's right. I didn't notice that. That's interesting: Drake, Eminem, Florida Georgia Line & Maroon 5 have all spent 267 weeks charting on the Artist 100. The most number of weeks I could find. It'd be great to have the number of weeks spent in the top 10, but if it isn't something you can get your hands on, don't bother. Thanks.

And the chart has been in existence for just 267 weeks That's about 5 years and 7 weeks, since the week ending July 19, 2014.

Tool Debuts at No. 1 On Billboard Artist 100 Chart 8/14/2019 by Xander Zellner
Tool The honor adds to the rock band's record week. Tool debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated Aug. 17) to become the top musical act in the U.S. for the first time, as the rock band infuses multiple charts after its catalog was made available on streaming and digital services for the first time.
The group lands five albums on the Billboard 200 and notches its second career Billboard Hot 100 entry (and first since "Schism" in 2001), as new track "Fear Inoculum" debuts at No. 93. On the Billboard 200, AEnima, Lateralus,10,000 Days and Undertow re-enter at Nos. 10, 16, 18 and No. 19, while EP Opiate debuts at No. 59.
Since the Artist 100 launched in July 2014, Tool is the seventh group to debut at No. 1, following The Raconteurs in July, Vampire Weekend in May, Dave Matthews Band (in 2018), Arcade Fire (2017), Blink-182 (2016) and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (2016).
The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
Rounding out the Artist 100's top five, Drake jumps 10-2 as his new album Care Package launches atop the Billboard 200, Billie Eilish dips 2-3, Khalid holds at No. 4 and Ed Sheeran slips 3-5.

Lionel Richie Leads Artist 100, Thanks to 'Hello From Las Vegas' Album Debut
8/27/2019 by Xander Zellner
He's the third act to debut at No. 1 this year, after Tool and The Raconteurs.
Lionel Richie debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated Aug. 31) to become the top musical act in the U.S. for the first time since the list's launch in 2014.
He reigns thanks to the chart start of his new live album, Hello From Las Vegas, which arrives at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 65,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music.
The set earns Richie his sixth solo top 10 on the Billboard 200 and first since 2012's Tuskegee, which spent two weeks at No. 1.
Richie is the fourth soloist to debut atop the Artist 100, after Future in 2015 and David Bowie and Frank Ocean in 2016. Tool and The Raconteurs have also opened at No. 1 this year.
The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
Billie Eilish holds at No. 2 on the Artist 100 and Taylor Swift leaps 16-3 as "Lover," the title track from her new album (released Aug. 23), debuts at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart (35,000 sold) and No. 21 on Streaming Songs (16.1 million U..S. streams). Plus, Swift surges 12-4 on the Social 50 survey.
Rounding out the Artist 100's top five, Lizzo rises 8-4 and Khalid dips 3-5.
Check out this week's full Artist 100 chart here.

OK- now this latest chart is another odd one. Perhaps pure-album-sales has more weight for the Artist 100 than equivalent units? How else to explain Richie ranking higher than Young Thug? Or maybe Richie has a stronger social-media activity than Young Thug.

^Well, Lionel didn't even place in the Social 50, while Young Thug re-entered the chart. That said, Young Thug only rising to #8 in the Artist 100 seems off.

Or maybe Richie has a stronger social-media activity than Young Thug. I remember reading somewhere that total album SPS doesn't count for the Artist 100, just pure sales. They did that way so streams wouldn't double count from the H100 and B200. But doing this makes the chart totally inaccurate and useless as we can see here...

^They have changed the chart's information so it no longer mentions what components are, but wikipedia says it "blends information culled from album sales, track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of an artist's popularity across all the main means of music consumption".

If that's indeed true, then Billboard are really silly, considering the fact that in the next two years, pure sales will be over for good, probably.

I don't see why not counting streams twice would be "really silly" or "totally inaccurate." The streams are bring counted, just as part of track totals, not as part of the album sales.

Yes, though would those numbers carry the same weight as they do for the Hot 100?

Yes, though would those numbers carry the same weight as they do for the Hot 100? Whatever their formula for the Artist 100 is, it's clear now that pure sales carries the most weight and streams from songs off an album that count towards it's songs performance on the Hot 100 don't carry nearly as much weight.

Taylor Swift Returns to No. 1 On Artist 100 Chart For Record-Extending 37th Week 9/4/2019 by Xander Zellner
The superstar last led in December 2017. Taylor Swift rises 3-1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated Sept. 7) to become the top musical act in the U.S. for a record-extending 37th total week, and for the first time since December 2017, thanks to the massive opening week of her new LP, Lover.
Lover launches at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 867,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music, the biggest one-week sum since her own reputation in 2017, and the new set is already the top-selling album of 2019 in the U.S. Thanks to the attention surrounding the new release, three of Swift's previous sets, 1989, Reputation and Red, also land on the Billboard 200, at Nos. 92, 96 and 183, respectively.
Concurrently, all 18 tracks from Lover infuse the latest Billboard Hot 100 chart, led by "You Need to Calm Down" at No. 4 and "Lover" at No. 10. She breaks the record for the most simultaneous Hot 100 hits by a woman, while "Lover" ties her with Elvis Presley for the 10th-most top 10s all-time.
Swift is the fifth solo woman to lead the Artist 100 this year, after Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, P!nk and Madonna.
Swift pads her record for most weeks spent at No. 1 on the Artist 100, dating to the chart's July 2014 inception. Notably, the top four artists with the most time on top are all signed to Republic Records, as, next up are Drake (31 weeks), The Weeknd (15) and Grande (13).
The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
Rounding out the Artist 100's top five, Lizzo lifts 4-2, as "Truth Hurts" becomes her first Hot 100 No. 1, Eilish dips 2-3, Post Malone pushes 7-4 and Khalid holds at No. 5.

Tool Blasts Back to No. 1 On Artist 100 Chart, Thanks to 'Fear Inoculum' Debut
9/11/2019 by Xander Zellner
The group becomes the seventh rock band to spend multiple weeks on top.
Tool returns to No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated Sept. 14) to become the top musical act in the U.S. for a second total week, as the group's fifth LP, Fear Inoculum, debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 270,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music.
The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
The new set, Tool's first in 13 years, marks the group's third Billboard 200 No. 1. It launches with the biggest one-week total for a rock album (in both units and album sales) since Dave Matthews Band's Come Tomorrow in June 2018.
The group first hit No. 1 on the Artist 100 four weeks ago, after its catalog was made available on streaming and digital services for the first time.
Tool also becomes the seventh rock duo or group to have spent multiple weeks at No. 1 on the Artist 100 (dating to the list's 2014 inception), joining Twenty One Pilots (four weeks); Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Queen (three each); and Bon Jovi, Linkin Park and Mumford & Sons (two each).
Rounding out the Artist 100's top five, Taylor Swift dips to No. 2 after logging her record-extending 37th week at No. 1, Post Malone rises 4-3, Lana Del Rey re-enters at No. 4, as her new album Norman Fucking Rockwell! debuts at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and Lizzo falls 2-5.

Post Malone Returns to No. 1 on Artist 100 Chart Thanks to 'Hollywood's Bleeding' Debut 9/17/2019 by Xander Zellner
He leads the list for a sixth total week. Post Malone rises 3-1 on the Billboard Artist 100 (dated Sept. 21) to become the top musical act in the U.S. for a sixth total week, and for the for first time since January, as his sophomore LP, Hollywood's Bleeding, debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 489,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Sept. 12, according to Nielsen Music.
The set earns the second-largest consumption week of 2019 and the largest streaming week for an album this year.
With his latest frame on top, Post Malone passes BTS and Billie Eilish for the ninth-most weeks at No. 1 in the Artist 100's five-year history. Taylor Swift leads with 37 weeks at the summit.
Malone's return to No. 1 is also aided by his 17 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 (every track from the new album), led by four in the top 10: "Goodbyes," featuring Young Thug, at No. 3; "Circles," at No. 4; "Take What You Want," featuring Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott, at No. 8; and "Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)," with Swae Lee, at No. 10.
Malone last led the Artist 100 dated Jan. 26, a week after "Sunflower" topped the Hot 100.
The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
Rounding out the Artist 100's top five, Ariana Grande holds at No. 2, Imagine Dragons rise 4-3, BTS dips 3-4 and Queen lifts 9-5.

Post Malone Tops Artist 100 Chart, The Lumineers Return at No. 2 9/25/2019 by Xander Zellner
Post Malone ties Bruno Mars for the eighth-most weeks spent at No. 1. Post Malone spends a second consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated Sept. 28) to remain the top musical act in the U.S. for a seventh total week, as his new LP Hollywood's Bleeding logs its second straight week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 198,000 equivalent album units earned, according to Nielsen Music.
Malone's Artist 100 rule is also aided by 14 entries, all from the new set, on the Billboard Hot 100 (only three less than he had last week), led by two in the top 10: "Goodbyes," featuring Young Thug, at No. 8 and "Circles" at No. 9.
With his seventh total week on top, Malone ties Bruno Mars for the eighth-most weeks spent at No. 1 in the chart's five-year history. Taylor Swift holds the record for the most time in charge: 37 weeks.
The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
The Lumineers re-enter the Artist 100 at No. 2, powered by their third LP, III, which opens at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 86,000 units. The Americana/folk band previously led the Artist 100 for a week in April 2016 upon the chart start of its sophomore LP, Cleopatra.
Rounding out the Artist 100's top five, Taylor Swift dips 2-3, Lizzo holds at No. 4 and Billie Eilish drops 3-5.
