I love that intro. To be honest, I was a bit worried. The live audio of the song was understandably not that great, and the song just didn't grab me. Plus, while I acknowledge Jesse Frasure has his own brand of brilliance, it's not usually my cup of tea. But, I feel much better about the song now. I never worry about Lauren's vocal performance. It's all about song choices, and I now have hope this will be a good one.

I wanted to make a joke at country radio's expense that this was a song about the current state of the chart (all the ladies are in the 90s on the airplay chart) but I am LOVING that live performance and the production on the short intro clip posted. I can see this being huge if the studio version is as good as this sounds. Cautiously extremely optimistic, I think this will be my favorite song of hers since "Next Boyfriend."

I'm wondering why there has been virtually no promotion on the radio end of things for this single. The "Lauren Alaina for New Artist of the Year" ad in Billboard/CA featured a tiny blurb, that you would totally miss if you weren't looking for it, about the song and the add date. It wasn't even listed under Billboard's impacting singles on 10/15. Hope her team can get it together and make it known at radio that a lead single is coming. This could be big for her or it could really flop.

Her overuse of puns literally makes me cringe. She’s otherwise perfect. Excited to hear this!

I like the visual but she looks like she just smelled a fart with that facial expression. Kinda snarling her lip and staring into space.
I can't wait for this song on Friday. Most pumped I have ever been for a Lauren single.

I haven't seen this song among the Daily Play MPE releases yet nor is it under Cool New Music on AllAccess, but the ads in last night's Billboard and Country Aircheck updates indicated that "Ladies in the '90s" is 'On Your Desk Now', which means that the song is at radio.
I also noticed that the ads only listed 19 and Mercury Nashville as the labels. The Interscope Records logo was not included. If Lauren is no longer with Interscope (which seems likely), that's probably a good thing for her, because now UMG/Mercury Nashville wouldn't have to work together with Interscope, which is based in California, not Nashville.

I imagine the lack of promo might be since no one has heard it yet and it's not released. Best guess I have.
Pumped to hear this regardless.

I've always wondered if her enormous label mashup has held her back, perhaps being that neither label felt full ownership over her. According to Interscope's artists page, she is not listed. I haven't looked at that page in a while, so I'm not sure if that's a recent change. If the single is already at radio, I hope she is able to pick up a few early ads. I'm nervous about the hype going into this era.

She actually hasn't been listed on the Interscope website for quite a while (maybe a year or so), which I always found interesting, but all the ads for her music through "Doin' Fine" still listed 19 Recordings/Interscope Records/Mercury Nashville as her labels. Now it's just 19 and Mercury. I agree with your comment that neither label probably felt full 'ownership' of her. A lot of the American Idol contracts were never actually very favorable to the artists OR the labels, because in most cases it was always multiple labels, meaning that they had to work together and compromise...and that's not an easy thing to do.

Most-likely, her album deal with Interscope after Idol was likely two with options for more (a common contract for shows). Her contract with 19 was obviously longer and UMG Nashville opted into the next record under the “Mercury” label. It probably is a good thing she doesn’t have to work with a label which knows little about country, even if Interscope DOES have a presence in Nashville. As we saw with Dylan Schneider, they still don’t know what to do.

This was released to radio through Play MPE this week. I received it and have heard the studio version in full. It wasn’t in the public releases on their website but sometimes a release is only for people with radio accounts. It’s a good song. It mixes pop with country elements like some of Lauren’s last album and the lyrics make 90’s references throughout the track, of course.

It sounds very '90s pop with some hint of country, which is just fitting for the theme of the song (about the female pop and country artists she grew up listening to). I also like the production this time. Lauren's got a great voice but I found her previous radio releases (including "What If") overproduced and too loud.
The references to '90s songs are not forced and flow quite well in the lyrics. I actually enjoy songs that feature other songs ("And The Radio Played", "Nashville Without You", "Song For Another Time").
However, it also makes me a bit sad thinking that in two decades, a young female country singer will have a song like "Ladies in the 2010s", an era where the country women were completely absent. #tomato

This song literally chronicles the early years of every gay boy born in the South in the early 90s.

Well we will absolutely be getting the answer to the often suggested thought that radio "adores Lauren Alaina" because this is a freaking SMASH. Easily her second best single after "Next Boyfriend" but since she has a hit under her belt now, I think this one can make some noise. So happy for her, this is excellent.

This is SO GOOD. I'm gonna be mad if it's not at least top20 (it deserves a lot more that)
It's too easy to tell if it's my favorite single by her, and I love some of her previous singles, but it's one of her best ones for sure.

I don’t wanna keep my hopes up because we all know what happened with Next Boyfriend (which, like this, sounded like a smash). I am aware that she has had a few hits ever since then, so there’s a better chance for this imo, but this is still sexist country radio... so we’ll see.

I think if this song wasn't in a very subtle way calling out country radio I would feel more confident about its success.
As it is I think this will struggle to make the Top 30, at best.
Solid song. Although if it was on her previous album it would probably be near the bottom. Some of the vocal effects I am just not a fan of at all, and Lauren Alaina has sounded better.

I actually really like this! But the whole concept is becoming kind of played out. First Anne-Marie's 2002, then Walker Hayes' god awful 90's Country. And then today Lauren releases this and Charli XCX also drops a song called 1999 with literally the exact same idea.

I disagree on both counts. Radio loves this type of song that pretends they are listening to people. It is a crazy catchy song they will play it I predict. I also think her voice has never been better and the production is dialed back finally so you can hear her. I know your a fan so I am just stating the way I see and hear it. Time will tell.
