The melody of the chorus sounds a lot like "Body Like A Back Road", which is too bad...but once again, Morgan's single sounds like your average country radio track. I'm all about him succeeding, though, so I hope this does well for him.

Not sure this is what I would have gone with. American and I Do were both much better songs to me....and both also refer to his relationship with Kelsea, which to me would only help the song up the charts.

I couldn't place it though. This is catchy but I didn't like the chorus very much, and now that I know what song it sounds like, it makes sense. I want this to do well for him though. Morgan Evans is AMAZING. He deserves all the success he can get.

I feel like the chorus is exactly similiar to the chorus in Flo Rida’s “My House”.
I don’t like this but I do love the “WHO CARES?!” Part.
I still don’t know what he brings that 900 others don’t already bring to the table. I don’t see him lasting here in the States.

Damn, you guys weren't kidding about the chorus. It really rips off of "Body Like A Back Road" and "My House" big time. Luckily for me I enjoy both of those songs, so I found this rather pleasing. Not sure if I see this sticking out enough though, this just seems to be lacking something special.

I think this could be a hit. It's catchy and people will eat up the "who cares" part of the chorus. I'd assume the label will try to give this a nice push with his album coming out a month from now.

I think he’ll easily be one of the favorites for Best New Artist at both award shows next year. It also depends on what the other two newer artists with top 20 hits follow up with too. Mitchell Tenpenny and Jimmie Allen are both doing pretty well for themselves with their debut singles too. We still have a long way to go to find out about them nominations too.

I wouldn't say "easily." It seems the industry writers are really pushing him at us, mostly having to remind us that he is married to Kelsea. His first single was, of course, helped by OTV but didn't sell nearly worth a damn--even being discounted. This follow up isn't even found in the top 200 iTunes country, despite being played regularly on The Highway. I don't see that the consumers' interest has matched the media's interest yet...

Unrelated to the quote now. I do think Morgan Evans could get a New Artist nomination but probably won't win given competition. But dude needs to make a splash with this song or I don't see him lasting a long time. His debut single was so under the radar impact wise and I don't think radio is going to be the most receptive out of the gate given how much of a stinker "Kiss Somebody" was for an OTV pick. Kind of like what we just saw with Devin Dawson. I don't know I feel like if it wasn't for the fact that he is married to Kelsea Ballerini, I don't think he would be as "popular" or even really stand much of a chance of success. Him being married to Kelsea Ballerini is great, because they can be hyped up as this new power couple in country music or at least that is something the label can try to use.

My bad.

Yesssss. Love both this and "I Do" but this could be a big hit with football season so it would have been my pick. I'm hoping the rest of his album is good because I like this guy. Excited to hear the duet with Kelsea!

"I Do" is way better and sounds like it would've been a smash, whereas I see this being another middle-of-the-road hit that doesn't move the needle a whole lot like "Kiss Somebody." I like this, but like "Kiss Somebody" it's just kinda there for me. Inoffensive, decently catchy radio fodder; nothing more, nothing less.
Also I found it interesting how like none of the shots of Kelsea Ballerini in the entire music video showed her face to the camera (except for when she had a waterfall or helmet in front of it). Weird.

31 adds this week, 33 total stations on Impact Day. Third most added this week behind Billy Currington and Brett Young.

I feel like the chorus is exactly similiar to the chorus in Flo Rida’s “My House”. The chorus melody sounds nearly identical to that song. Wow.

Moves up 22 spots to #76 on Mediabase.
Obviously it is easier to go through the 70s and 80s but I still like the start for this single.

I know YouTube isn't the best source to measure full on popularity but looking at Morgan Evans numbers are staggering and really make me question how successful he will be long term.
As of today his YouTube channel has about 14,000 subscribers, the "Kiss Somebody" video has 2 million views despite being a Top 5 song at radio and being released 10 months ago. Compare to other artists who broke out in 2018 (Devin Dawson, Mitchell Tenpenny). Devin Dawson has 43k subscribers, and Mitchell Tenpenny has 39k ("All On Me" has 19 million views and "Drunk Me" is at 15 million). Which is funny as Devin Dawson also saw the followup to his On The Verge song flop.
I feel like Morgan Evans numbers are just very low and I wonder how much success he will have as he is reminding me more Chase Bryant or Tucker Beathard post OTV and not Luke Combs or Maren Morris.

Devin also had a viral Taylor Swift mashup video (with Louisa Wendorff) before he got signed to a label that Taylor herself tweeted about. The video has 36 million views now, so that could have definitely given him some help with subscribers early on. 43k is impressive though for not really seeing much success. Mitchell on the other hand has sold extremely well with "Drunk Me" and that is almost certainly going to end up being a much bigger hit, at least in the long run, than "Kiss Somebody" was. Not arguing that Morgan Evans is going to be a star, but just saying that the number of subscribers and views on YouTube you have shouldn't be the only indicators to whether or not he'll be successful in the long-run. He's married to Kelsea Ballerini, which will give him a leg up over other new male artists, he's from Australia which makes him a little bit different, and he's only just released his second single. "Kiss Somebody" was a bit of a manufactured hit, so let's see if he can get an organic one with "Day Drunk" before speculating too much. Only 2 million views for Kiss Somebody is pretty staggering, but I feel like that says more about the song than Morgan himself.

The more I hear this the more convinced I am that it could be a nice sized hit for Morgan. I'm very intrigued to see how a chart run will naturally go for him without manufactured play.

This sounds like a hit to me and I could see it doing well on radio even if it doesn't move the needle much because it's the type of safe, catchy radio-fodder that radio would probably be happy to convert because I can see it testing well even if people aren't interested in it/him beyond hearing it on the radio casually. Being married to Kelsea gives me a little more reason to believe he may eventually catch on more in the LT, but he just hasn't gotten there yet given how "Kiss Somebody" and his album did on the back of it (very poor sales start). Will be interesting to see how his future shapes up.

11 weeks in the Mediabase Top 50 and "Day Drunk" finally enters the Top 40 this week finally.
This song is definitely taking its sweet time up the chart. I also figured the sales would be their at least somewhat since he is married to Kelsea Ballerini.
I am still really hoping this song isn't that big of a hit, mainly for how terrible I find this song. I just don't get the whole chorus having the same or similar melody as "My House"? Like of all songs you can have a chorus sound similar to, it's that?

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I just can't get past that. I actually LOVE "My House" but this song completely ripped it off. I hope this flops.

I actually love this but don't like the who cares..but I still hope it's a decent hit for him, because I enjoy at least some of his music.
But I listened to My House and I have to admit it's exactly the same. And being a 2015 release it's unlikely they wrote this before hearing that one...I thought label people were supposed to catch this kind of problem - maybe no one cares cause it's country?

Is it possible the melody intentionally mirrors "My House?" Because the lyrical content is also the same, right down to mentioning champagne in the first line. Maybe this was sort of meant to be a country spoof of that song.

In that case, the songwriters of "My House" probably would have been given songwriting credits on "Day Drunk" to avoid a copyright lawsuit.
