"Neon Moon" was almost my #1. Incredible song, and the most deserving winner out of the top 5.

Oh. Lol this is now the first large rankdown in quite awhile to add no new songs to either the #1s OR #2s playlist... Since "Neon Moon" previously won 1992 Country, and "She's Not The Cheating Kind" previously finished at #2 in Cody's Country Groups RD. (It's happened before, when "I'm Alright" and "Bye Bye" finished at #1 and #2 like 8 times. But I think this is the only rankdown since Jo Dee's I'm Alright album for this to happen)

"Neon Moon" is a great song, but I'm surprised that it is so well loved when compared to all of their other hits.

"Neon Moon" is a great song, but I'm surprised that it is so well loved when compared to all of their other hits. "Neon Moon" is the ultimate misery song. So many people can relate in some way. I heard Ronnie discuss it in an interview about writing at his mama's kitchen table after a divorce. The bonus is that it's so easy to dance to... When the sun goes down On my side of town That lonesome feeling Comes to my door The whole world turns blue There's a rundown bar Cross the railroad tracks I've got a table for two Way in the back Where I sit alone And think of losing you I spend most every night Beneath the light Of this neon moon Now if you lose your one and only There's always room here for The lonely To watch your broken dreams Dance in and out of the beams Of a neon moon I think of two young lovers Running wild and free I close my eyes And sometimes see You in the shadows Of this smoke-filled room No telling how many tears I've sat here and cried Or how many lies That I've lied Telling my poor heart She'll come back someday Oh, but I'll be alright As long as there's light From a neon moon

Not a surprising winner at all, but Neon Moon is of course deserving. One of the most iconic songs of the 90's. Still not sure why "Ain't Nothin' 'Bout You" gets so much love, but clearly I'm the outlier on that one. It's fine, but the melody has always left me flat. "That Ain't No Way To Go" on the other hand is one i put right up there with B&D's biggest hits, too bad it didn't crack the top 3. Fun rankdown, thanks to Cody Wants Out... for hosting.
