upland1425, do you happen to know the artist and song that has the record for longest stay at #1 on HOT AC AT40? If so, how many weeks did it spend there?

Ryan mentioned that: #1: 14 weeks - Adele - Rolling In The Deep (2011) #2: 12 weeks (tie) - Ed Sheeran - Shape Of You (2017) / Maroon 5 - Girls Like You (2018)

But that would predate the Hot AC version of AT 40 which began the weekend of December 4, 2004

It would be impossible now for a song to even reach 25 weeks at #1 in this day and age. That is impressive for "Smooth". That will most likely always hold the record.
On AT40, it's possible to go longer than 14 weeks. Adele's record is beatable.

Musiciscool, is that because of changes made with regard to recurrent rules or the simple fact that the Hot AC reporting panel circa 1999-2000 was much smaller and more homogenized?

Because the panel circa was smaller back then. It seems to me that #1 songs don't stay at #1 for long like they used to.

It seems as though a 4-week timespan for #1 song is something the artist should be extremely proud of

I believe “Bubbly” spent 17 weeks at #1. That’s probably the most weeks since Ryan started the Hot AC version.

If you have a list of #1s ranging from 10+ weeks, please let me know. I find it very interesting. Here is the list that you requested going all the way back (please note that this list comes from Billboard and not Mediabase. On Billboard, Bubbly was number one from Nov 3, 2007- January 26, 2008 for 13 weeks, however, the two charts are generally similar with only a few significant differences). 25 weeks "Smooth" – Santana featuring Rob Thomas (1999–2000) 23 weeks "Wherever You Will Go" – The Calling (2001–02) 18 weeks "Unwell" – Matchbox Twenty (2003) "Photograph" – Nickelback (2005–06) 17 weeks "Iris" – Goo Goo Dolls (1998) 16 weeks "Complicated" – Avril Lavigne (2002) 15 weeks "Don't Speak" – No Doubt (1996–1997) "How to Save a Life" – The Fray (2006–07) 14 weeks "Torn" – Natalie Imbruglia (1998) "Everything You Want" – Vertical Horizon (2000) "Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)" – Train (2001) "Girls Like You" – Maroon 5 featuring Cardi B (2018) If you want to do more research Musiciscool, I have a few places for you to check out: 1) Use this board, there are almost 200 archived pages and you will find every AT 40 HAC list from about March 2005 until the present posted. 2) Bookmark www.popradiotop20.com/ since they have all of the top 20s since the inception of the format from April 1994 until the present day from both Radio and Records and later Mediabase; the later being the source of the AT 40 chart. 3) Bookmark the section in Wikipedia dedicated to Adult Top 40 number ones for a quick guide to all of the hits that topped the chart (again from Billboard) since that chart began with their beta chart in Oct 1995. Happy chart surfing musiciscool!!!

I actually forgot to share the best companion website to the weekly AT 40 show for you to check out and enjoy.....http://american-top-40-hot-ac.wikia.com/wiki/American_Top_40_Hot_AC_Wiki On this site, you can search past charts, locate peak dates of specific songs, artist achievements etc, plus there is a random explore feature and many of the songs have videos linked to them, in case you want to see/hear the songs again. It is one of my favorite places to visit but it is highly addicting.
