As usual, label power and name recognition seem to be the reasons why this is getting passed by "Southbound." This has great research and is much older. Should hit the top first. Carrie's record better have amazing numbers. Pathetic. Lol, it's getting passed by "Southbound" because it is without a doubt the bigger hit of the two. I can't believe you actually think this should go up the charts faster than her song. I continue to be amazed at how you come to the conclusions you do about what songs are actual hits or not.

Cole Swindell was looking to have a career much like Thomas Rhett a few years ago... now, not so much.

We haven't seen Carrie's numbers but are they really going to be that great to warrant blasting past the competition that has good numbers based on listener response? I'm sure Carrie's record is a hit and I think it deserves to go to #1, but sooner than Cole? I really don't think so. I feel like this is just another case of a more powerful record label pushing a song up the chart faster than it should with money and name recognition. In any case, I think both will slow down quite a bit before hitting the top 10 simply because the top 10 is so filled right now. They'll probably hit #1 in September. No big deal.

Who's to say why "Southbound" is passing this? You say these things like they're facts, when in actuality they're just part of your theory of why research > sales. Maybe radio is converting Carrie faster because she's Carrie and they recognize the amount of work it took to get to her level. Maybe they're converting her faster because "Southbound" is has 3.5 times the digital sales of "Love You Too Late". Maybe they're converting her faster because the callout for "Southbound" is great but it isn't on the chart yet. Who knows? Exactly. I feel like they're taking name recognition and maybe label power into account over listener response. I think both records will end up peaking near the top, but I doubt Cole will get the Billboard #1 simply because he's on a weaker label that doesn't seem to try for Billboard #1s often, unfortunately. Carrie, on the other hand, is sure to get pushed to the top by her powerful and rich record label, as will Keith. I think you completely missed my point. If you had read the second part of that sentence in which I said “...they recognize the amount of work it took to get to her level”, you’d see that I was trying to say that to get to the superstar level and sustained success that Carrie and other A-listers have, an artists needs to have more than a strong label backing. Also, let me just backtrack to this: You really can’t say anything about this for sure until you know the listener response for “Southbound”. Until it debuts on the callout chart, I think this is a moot point.

Yeah, let's wait and see if Southbound has way better research than Love You Too Late to warrant a third single blasting up the chart faster than a second single with better research. And I don't mean this sarcastically at all, for the record. It's hard to read people's expressions, but I'm genuinely interested to see where Southbound winds up on the callout chart. I think it'll test well, but not better than Cole.

Like that's basically what you're saying. 2) It absolutely does deserve to go up faster. All indications that are available point to "Southbound" being the much bigger hit of the two. "Love You Too Late" isn't moving the needle. 3) Why is it making you irate that Carrie is passing him when Cole's song has already been passed by probably a dozen songs during its run? Luke Combs, Luke Bryan, Brantley Gilbert, Blake Shelton, Thomas Rhett, Maren Morris are all examples of songs currently ahead of him on the charts right now despite his song being older. By your logic, none of them should've gone up ahead of him, which is crazy.

Cole is researching fine. I'm sure Carrie's researching fine as well, but there aren't many positive reasons for her to pass Cole besides better research, right? I just feel like she needs way better listener support to justify passing older records. I don't want to get repetitive, but I feel like it all comes down to money and label manipulation. Carrie's got the backing of a powerful label, Capitol Nashville, that is hungry for #1s, which they haven't achieved this year, so they're pushing her past Cole, while Cole's label is focused on their big hit, "God's Country," while letting this song just ease up the charts slowly.

Again, as has been indicated to you time after time in thread after thread, the part in bold is unequivocally false. Callout. Is. Not. The. End. All. Be All. Her song is going up quickly because it is connecting very well: it is selling and streaming much better than Cole's song. "Love Wins" went up the charts much slower than "Southbound" and struggled, in part due to mediocre callout but also because it didn't connect with an audience and experience unusually low sales/streams for a Carrie song. Perhaps more importantly, you also in this response completely failed to make any kind of argument as to why Carrie going up ahead of him is such an issue when he's been passed by probably at least 10 other songs. There is literally no logical reason to be comparing "Southbound" vs. "Love You Too Late" right now. None. At all.

I'm not going to speak for others here but something needs to be said here. It is very frustrating to see the same damn argument about callout scores and research in every singles thread I open up. There are songs I hate and artists I despise but I don't go in and complain about it at all. I may say I don't like a song once, but I don't continue to beat the dead horse over and over in multiple threads. If it bothers you so much just effing go away. I have never seen a poster be this miserable and crabby about music they don't like.

Well, let's take a look at who has passed Cole: 1) God's Country - same label, probably better listener response, seems fair 2) Some of It - worse listener response, richer label, probably again due to the money 3) Beer Never Broke My Heart - worse research, better sales which I disregard, richer label, seems unfair to blast ahead, again, probably based on name recognition and early excitement which will soon wear off 4) Girl - worse research but a lead single, more powerful label, so it's debatable that this one should have made the pass, not a problem 5) Raised on Country - lead single but slightly worse research and a richer label, doesn't seem like a fair pass but understandable due to being a lead single 6) All to Myself - same label, about the same research, but a third single as opposed to Cole's second single, DAS are already getting way more recurrent airplay with their other two bigger hits, so this doesn't seem like a fair pass, probably based on name recognition and momentum, which I disagree with 7) Knockin' Boots - bigger name, richer label, haven't seen callout yet, doesn't seem like a fair pass 8) Look What God Gave Her - worse research, more powerful label, is already falling hard, not a fair pass at all 9) Rearview Town - bigger name, smaller label, probably similar listener response, but it's a fourth single as opposed to Cole's second single, the pass seems to be based mostly on name recognition, doesn't seem fair 10) What Happens in a Small Town - more powerful label, has better research, lead single, seems like a fair pass, even though Cole will likely re-pass this soon due to radio's general tendency to disfavor Brantley Gilbert

Like I said, I wasn't here to discuss callout, y'all. I was more interested in why radio seems to blast songs from richer labels up the chart more quickly than songs that organically grow and gotten positive listener feedback. Sorry if anyone didn't appreciate me offering my thoughts, but I swear I'm not here to troll. Just an open discussion.

Just here to discuss which songs are the biggest hits and deserve to go up the fastest, etc. Anyway, getting this back on topic. I think this'll end up peaking at #3 in late September behind Keith and Carrie simply due to Cole being on a weaker record label. And that's fine as long as the recurrent airplay takes into account which songs listeners are more tired of. ETA: I'll re-direct these discussions to private messages so as not to ruin the discussion going on here.

Reasons why Cole's songs are getting passed: Reason #1: Flatliner Reason #2: Stay Downtown
He had a couple decent years but at this point, he'e just not that big of a deal any more. Take me for example. I like him, but if he never had a hit again i wouldn't really care either. Same goes for this song. I think its alright, but if it disappeared....oh well🤷♂️
Competition is just too much with the men out there.

Carrie and Keith have also had a few flops lately.

Not sure where to say this and I want to keep things on topic, so I'll just post it here and keep it quick and simple:
I'm genuinely sorry for my behavior coming across as trollish. I think it's hard to indicate tone over posts, so sometimes y'all might think I'm whining or irate over something simply because I make bold statements. But I'm really not. I just enjoy discussing these things with everyone. And I respect all of your opinions very much and have enjoyed hearing your thoughts on which songs are bigger hits, etc. I think we've said a million times that we can agree to disagree on research vs. sales/streaming, but the problem is that it keeps coming up in every thread because it's inevitable that when you discuss a song's performance, why it became a hit, where the listener demand is, etc. you'll get into the discussion of whether there's a bigger audience to be found in radio or on iTunes, Spotify, etc. So I'm going to keep it simple and get things back on track in here.
I suspect Carrie's record is testing well, too. I also suspect Carrie's label is pushing hers up the chart much faster than Cole's team because Capitol is more concerned about Carrie's momentum and the label's overall success this year. Warner has "God's Country" that will keep them afloat just fine for now, and so they're content to let Cole get passed by Carrie, and maybe down the road even Keith. I think Carrie, Keith, and Cole will all find their way to #1 about the same time in September and it's really not that big a deal which one gets there first, as long as they all get there fairly based on the numbers (whichever numbers you believe make a record a hit) and not label cash, chart manipulation, etc. I think things will work themselves out, though. Carrie's record obviously has some good feedback to be able to blow up the charts this quick given her recent lack of momentum. They'll all be fine in the end. Fair enough?
Anything else that feels redundant or repetitive we could take to private message. Don't want to interrupt the flow of the discussion here. Maybe we should keep it about the song's chart progress, research and sales numbers, etc.

New EP cut "All Nighter" is out on all digital platforms tonight. I think it would have been a big radio hit had they held it and built on it. Hopefully LYTL continues to climb and we'll see if we get a 3rd single off the album.

"All Nighter" has a great melody and I thought it could be a smash - right up till the end of the chorus. I'm not usually particular about grammar in songs, but the hook is so lyrically clunky it completely ruins it for me. Why did they go with "It's lookin' like it gon' be an all nighter" when there are a hundred better ways to write that line?
