I think the song is okay, but I'd much rather have Shawn Mendes sing it lol. Have never been a fan of ZBB or Zac's voice.

I don't like Shawn Mendes at all.
I actually liked "Beautiful Drug" but the Sir Rosevelt album was atrocious. This at least seems more listenable and energetic than some of their other output of late, but I feel like ZBB have lost all artistic focus and are clearly becoming The Band Perry 2.0 in terms of going off the rails.

Wow, this doesn't even sound remotely country in the slightest. It literally scans like a straight up alt-pop hit that would be played amongst the likes of Imagine Dragons and Coldplay. I don't mind it at all under that context... but on country radio? Hard pass. I'll be pretty upset if this is a big hit on the country airwaves. This doesn't even fall into the gray area that artists like Thomas Rhett and Sam Hunt sometimes operate in with their sound. It's also pretty hilarious to see them continue to go from one extreme to the other, making it seem like they have no idea what they're doing anymore. Maybe they just don't care at this point because if they stopped having hits altogether (which is a real possibility given how they cooled off in the past 1-2 years) they'd still be able to carry some modicum of success through touring, but their trajectory over the past few years has been head-scratching to say the least.

The funny thing is that ZBB does not care about radio one bit. They have never even been a country band. Every single album they’ve put out has multiple genres Blended together, even back to The Foundation.
They’ve even publicly come out and said their next album won’t be country sounding and will be working in new and different ways with new sounds.
Everyone who is comparing them to Band Perry is so off base. They are selling out baseball stadiums and huge tours. Band Perry can’t sell out a small music hall right now. So that’s a ludicrous comparison.
Also, this song is dominating on iTunes and in streams for them.

Also, this song is dominating on iTunes and in streams for them. Being top 10 on iTunes isn’t exactly a giant achievement these days, especially for an established act. And where exactly are you seeing this domination in streaming? It has less than 100k views on YouTube and isn’t in the Spotify Top 200 from what I can see...

They have never even been a country band. Comparing them to The Band Perry is off-base but not this statement? Their dozen country radio #1s over the past decade, frequent nominations and performances on the CMAs/ACMs, and being signed to a country music label based out of Nashville (among many other things) indicate otherwise. It's one thing for them to not be boxed in by the confines of making exclusively country music, but these guys put out their most experimental album to date, followed it up with their most rootsy and least experimental album to date (which flopped hard) while Zac created a side project to make more experimental music, and then came to ZBB and put out something that sounded like what he did with Sir Rosevelt. They're all over the map right now and the response from fans to their stuff these days ain't what it used to be, and there's just no getting around that.

I’d say that’s a big deal, yeah. Views on YouTube makes sense - it’s been out for a day.

Some artists cannot even make Top 10 on itunes even with country airplay *cough*Rascal Flatts*cough*Old Dominion*cough* For what it is worth, ZBB is still the face of country groups and is miles ahead of their peers in terms of popularity. It is just that they (or Zac Brown) are their own worst enemy...:(

Who really cares what genre ... a good song is a good song. Everybody knows that there’s a trajectory for established acts. Sales aren’t what they once were and it’s hard for established acts to continuely achieve radio success (Flatts, Brad, Carrie, Tim, Faith etc) The Zac Brown Band have achieved enough success over the years to make the type of music they want to make.

What happened to the rootsy, blues & country sounding Zac Brown Band that was so good 4 or 5 years ago. They have lost a lot of their fan base and I am afraid they will soon be an after thought. Why are they so obsessed with EDM style music? I know a lot of people, including me, that won't go see them live or buy their music anymore.

Last album was vintage ZBB and it didn’t do much on the charts. That’s why they changed things up. Odd, considering they’ll always have a big fan base

I like most of their last album and also the new song. I don’t think they are overly bothered about making songs for radio. Zac Brown have always had an eclectic taste on all their albums. I doubt that this song will be representative of the whole album.

If I hadn't read the whole thread before listening, and someone asked me what genre the song was, I'd say it is country lol I can see it's not among the rootsiest things ever, but with all the genre mixing these last few years in the genre, I don't think this song is as far gone from country as some of you suggest. Plus, I like the song lol

Not the worst I've heard from them. Has more pulse to it than anything off Welcome Home at least. I don't like anything I've heard from Shawn Mendes, so I'm okay with ZBB singing this.
That said, I still think they're firmly in "off the rails" territory. And this is from someone who actually really really liked "Beautiful Drug".

So is this actually being promoted anywhere? No adds date yet which wouldn’t make sense. Wondering if this is just a buzz single or something to tie fans over.

Plus, it appears that no one has added it "early" on the Mediabase Adds report. It just feels like this is not going to be serviced to country radio.

Impact day adds will appear on the 19th, as the 18th is Presidents Day. According to the press release sent to radio, this is credited to Wheelhouse Records, Broken Bow Records Music Group and BMG. Wheelhouse will be the promotion team, as onebuffalo pointed out in the Label Roster thread.

I’m surprised that they’re going with this now after waiting so long on it. I like it, but I’m not sure it’s what they need to bring them back to having big hits again.

Yikes, this era is already a mess. Why did they release this song so early if it wasn’t a promo single or going straight to radio? They usually always get radio deals with their first singles too. I hate to say it because I love ZBB and want them to remain relevant at country radio, but this already feels like a flop waiting to happen. Maybe they don’t care anymore, which I can understand because their touring numbers are quite impressive.

I like it but it’ll be interesting if gatekeepers will play it. It’s gonna test horribly with “older” part of the demo.

I've been reluctant to listen to this but finally sat down and watched the music video...much to my surprise I really like it. I come from a family that has a history of depression and as someone who deals with the constant daily struggles of anxiety and depression myself this song really strikes a chord with me. I'm glad I watched the video first because I'm not sure I would've felt the same connection to the song and with that I'm not sure this will do well on country radio. Also I know that Kygo wasn't behind this song but it really sounds like one of his productions.

This new song is terrible. It doesn't even have a nice groove to start with.
Good for this band maybe, despite having minimal airplay, this song is currently sitting on #153 all-genre on iTunes for some reason. The iTunes demographics sometimes...
