"Warrior" might be the worst song ZBB has ever released, and they've had quite a few clunkers in the past five years.

They can’t always churn out the same stick. I agree; I like when they mix it up and try new things. I just think they did it better in their first three albums when they explored different elements of southern rock, jam band, and traditional country. In my opinion, that sound better incorporates the strengths of the band members (and was more successful). I appreciate bands to explore different sounds, but ZBB seem to has no real direction or consistency in the past few years.

Seems this song has given up. Lose 128 spins in today's update.

"Someone I Used To Know" is hanging on by a thread, been treading water for a few weeks. They're just trying to keep it alive through the album release, which happens to be tomorrow.
The Owl was sent to radio this morning...I'm guessing a few here won't be big fans of this one lol. Quite a few songs are straight up pop/EDM style -- particularly, "The Woods", "Need This", "OMW" and "God Given."
The only tracks I somewhat like are "Finish What We Started" and "Leaving Love Behind."

Wow, not even Sounds Like Nashville and Entertainment Focus wrote negative reviews for the album...

Huge fan of these guys over the years, but this album is just bad. If this was a side project or just something meant to tie people over until a real album comes out than it would be whatever. But this is so beneath them. “Someone I Used To Know” is the best song on the album, and I’d say it’d be bottom 5 on all of their previous ones. Other than the Brandi duet, this is a waste and huge step down for these guys. It’s one thing to experiment, but this just seems like a band (or maybe just one guy in the band) that is extremely confused. I’m not sure if they’ll ever make the top 20 again on country radio at this point. Maybe they don’t care because they tour so well, but I’m sure they have many fans today that feel extremely letdown.

Yep 100% agree. What’s their intended audience? Gosh I listened to the whole album and kept hoping for a good song and it was over before I knew it. They are so much better than this. “Someone that I used to know” is the standout.

Agreed, i listened to the album earlier today and was very underwhelmed. This will be the first ZBB i have no intention or desire to buy or even listen to again.
Oh well i guess. They had a good run.

I’m sure the next album will be country (they’ll have to make it country based off the reaction to this one). They just wanted to try something different.
With that said, I don’t think the album is as bad as some suggest

We here are generally a little more negative about country posers than the consuming public at large, but this currently has an average 2/5 star rating on iTunes from 347 reviews which is quite a big sampling.

I wouldn't call ZBB a poser, either though. They have been pretty straightforward about the type of music they're making. While I don't like it, it's not like these guys are pretending it's still the same they were making 10+ years ago.

But they're still releasing music to country radio and marketing themselves in the genre, even though their music direction has changed drastically. He even made a side project called Sir Rosevelt that was presumably so he could create something different from what ZBB was doing, but that basically proved pointless seeing as this band is still all over the place musically. Idk if "poser" is the right word in this case or not, but a country band getting away from making country music but still more or less acting like they're a country band seems pretty iffy to me. To me, it seems like they're having one hell of an identity crisis and alienating a lot of fans if their new album can only manage a 2/5 star average on iTunes. That's rough.

This is predicted to have 105-115k SPS and 100-110k sales this week, thanks to a bundle. Without it, I really couldn’t see it getting more than 40k. What a way to alienate your fanbase...

It will still have similar first week pure sales to new Thomas Rhett's album if without bundles, so they are fine.

Except the hardcore fans like the variety. Do they want this every album? No. But it’s rare to sustain a career without taking some sort of risks, Strait is a huge outlier.

They released a great album in 2017 and people complained about it sounding the same. Lol. When you’re as talented as these guys you should have the freedom to be creative with your sound. Sturgill and Church have done this as well.

He makes music, and folks can like it or not. These days, it's hard to figure out which genre stuff belongs to. "Someone I Used to Know" is fine for country radio, and we don't know what the promotion plan is for marketing other singles. Maybe some will go to AC or Electronic? My mom and I really enjoy this one and are rooting for it. I guess we're waiting on the scores to come out to see if it'll grow or die on the charts. Zac Brown himself has become a real turnoff... Can't disagree with this. Basically, we all know the guy's an asshole who talks down others' music to draw attention to himself. It all comes down to, do you enjoy the music and want to support it, or do you dislike the music and want to ignore it? Sometimes in life you just have to do business with s**tty people. Let's redirect discussion of the album to a separate thread because this might get muddy. Let's talk about the single only in here. Are you with it or against it?

Zac Brown released a surprise solo album tonight called “The Controversy”. It’s very bad and I’m starting to be concerned about him.
He’s the Antonio Brown of country music

He’s the Antonio Brown of country music I listened to few of the clips and boy oh boy, even worse than The Owl, even though this solo album is labeled Pop as The Owl shall be too.

I have to say... every time I think this guy has hit rock bottom, he'll always find a way to prove me wrong and dig a little deeper. I feel sorry for him.

Starting to feel like Zac Brown Band saw how The Band Perry imploded a few years back and said "hold my beer."

This doesn't even seem real at this point, its like a parody. Songs like "Beautiful Drug" and even "Someone I Used To Know" definitely pushed boundaries and stretched their reach, but still worked in a weird kind of way. But the rest of these album tracks are shocking to hear. The Controversy was even more bizarre than The Owl. Its almost like they are trying to piss off their fans on purpose.
