Based on the Country Countdown USA co-host schedule, this should be maxing the week of 11/4-11/10, after Russell Dickerson, but Brantley may hold out and avoid getting passed by Russell and push the week before. The #1 schedule may be fluid for the next few weeks. It'll really depend on whether the big gains Brantley had last week were simply due to his album's release and Russell goes back to out-gaining Brantley this coming week, or if Brantley continues this trend of converting faster than Russell this week. Based on the research, Russell seems to have higher negatives but Brantley has a high burn rate, so it may be a wash between the two and radio may just end up converting Brantley first because his song's first on the charts. We'll see as the week progresses. Really excited that this looks like a #1 contender even after so many slow weeks outside the top 10. It's been my jam all summer long and still is! What a rocker!
EDIT: Yup, the boldfaced prediction is coming true. It'll be an easy few weeks. Cole, Russell, Brantley. Probably no real contest for #1 until we get to the end of November and the three big hits from Luke, Old Dominion and Thomas collide. Then we'll have the little guys Kenny, Keith and Lady A fighting for their fake Mediabase #1's in between. Fun!

So is this really going to make it to MB #1? For a song released last November and that seemed to be eternally stuck outside the Top 10, even coming close is quite an accomplishment. But was it really worth investing almost a year on one track?

I don’t know if it will get the MB #1 or not. Luke C passed them this past week so he maybe at the top of both charts for a few weeks.

Well considering the fact that this is already back ahead of this song on Mediabase rolling chart today and is projected by Hits Daily Double. (Here is the link for the proof)
Also just judging on early percents by the first two days of the Mediabase (Also those gains are probably leading to huge audience gains for Brantley/Lindsay) I think "What Happens In A Small Town" will definitely be #1 on Mediabase, and likely Billboard as well.
Great post, raylatch98. I think this will easily top the Mediabase chart, and it could go #1 on Billboard too since it's receiving a massive push this week, although it's possible that Combs' song could re-pass Brantley/Lindsay on Sunday, the final day of the Billboard tracking week. That seems to be the only uncertainty at this point. The Mediabase #1 seems like a lock though.

Yep. After seeing it make that huge jump to #1 on Monday's chart was the genesis of my post. Thanks for posting. Valory certainly waited an eternity to go for MAX SPINS!
Just curious, but why do you find it dumb? I know it's a rip on the 'what happens in Vegas' saying, but I actually think the hook is pretty clever going off the idea that living in a small town it's hard to escape the memories of a breakup because there's only so much distance that can be put between you and your ex unless you leave.

Just the line "'Cause what happens in a small town stays in a small town" just feels like lazy songwriting to me. I don't think the chorus' writing is bad, and it does make sense within the context of the song, but every time I hear that line on the radio, I just roll my eyes, lol.

Ok I am happy for Lindsay Ell especially that she got her first #1, but this is probably one of the most undeserving songs to hit #1 in recent memory.
This song has been really ho hum impact wise since released almost a year ago, also while the radio testing isn't bad it was pretty mediocre as well.
As of right now the latest singles from Jordan Davis, Ryan Hurd, Morgan Wallen, Carly Pearce/Lee Brice, Jason Aldean, Chris Young, Kelsea Ballerini, Gabby Barrett, Kane Brown, Ingrid Andress, and Maren Morris are all outselling "What Happens In A Small Town" despite none of the songs even half the airplay Brantley/Lindsay have.

that lyric is just as lazy as "It All Comes Out In The Wash" which is just like saying dirty laundry IMO

Almost as egregious as “Hangin’ On” last year. This, “Every Little Thing”, and “Love You Too Late” are the most un-impactful singles to hit number one this year, and adding salt to the wound they hit #1 one after another after each other (I couldn’t find a better way to word that lol). This is a really disappointing situation, especially considering Carrie Underwood peaked at #3 a few weeks ago with a song that literally took half the time to climb the charts. Timing, smh.
